Somali Forces Launch Major Military Push in Middle Shabelle region Tuesday
[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s federal government has deployed significant military forces to the Middle Shabelle region in a bid to retake towns and districts controlled by Al-Shabaab militants, security sources reported Tuesday.

Large contingents of federal troops have been mobilized to key areas, including Wargaadi, Cadale, and other strategic bases, as part of a final push to recapture the Aadan Yabaal district and other areas seized by Al-Shabaab in heavy fighting months earlier.

Local Macawisleey militia units are also participating in the operation, joining federal forces in preparations to reclaim Al-Shabaab-held territories in the Middle Shabelle region. The combined forces are reportedly coordinating efforts to dislodge the militants.

In recent days, fierce clashes have erupted between Al-Shabaab and federal troops, supported by Macawisleey fighters, in areas along the border of Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions. These battles are part of a broader campaign to expel the extremist group from the region.

Local journalists report a tense atmosphere, with residents fearing an escalation of violence. The federal government has vowed to continue operations against Al-Shabaab until Middle Shabelle is fully liberated.
Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants, the al-Shabaab, are trying to make a comeback in central regions, following heavy fighting in the outskirts of Moqokori village, where the militants have been pushing out government troops and local fighters on the frontlines.

For the better part of Monday, for the fifth straight day, the Al-Shabaab fighters engaged the Somali National Army (SNA) and the local forces in a fierce battle, with the group determined to retake the strategic village in central Somalia.

Last week, the militants captured Xawaadley and El Hareeri villages, pushing deeper into the eastern Hiiraan region, forcing the government troops to wage counterattacks. So far, the government troops have yet to get a better footing.

Al-Shabaab is sending more reinforcements every day, local security officials said, adding that they are aiming to capture Moqokori and Mahas towns. The militants seem to have regrouped following defeats in recent months.

According to Ali Jayte Osman, the former Hiiraan governor, the Somali government is doing little to protect citizens from Al-Shabaab rage. The former governor blames Hirshabelle leadership for struggles in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The insurgents have stepped up operations in central Somalia, despite airstrikes and resistance from government troops and allied militias. The militants released footage of child soldiers training during Eid al-Adha, further signifying their expansionist mentality.

Jeyte asked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to dismantle Hirshabelle state and instead appoint governors for Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions, saying regional leaders are undermining efforts to fight Islamist insurgents who are gaining ground

hard boyz who were planning to terrorise Kenyans using the Alungu-Elwak road, Mandera County, officials said, while confirming the incident, Tuesday.

According to the officers, the bully boyz were also in the final stages of placing explosives on the main road targeting civilian vehicles. It is the norm of the hard boyz to plant explosives on major link roads within the northeastern parts of the country.

"The bully boyz were caught in the act of setting up the IED. A fierce firefight ensued, during which two hard boyz were neutralised and others sustained serious injuries before fleeing into nearby thickets with our gallant officers in hot pursuit," officials said.

"Recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) warhead, and a fully assembled IED, averting a potential large-scale attack on civilian traffic." This successful operation highlights the continued commitment and vigilance of Kenya's security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The incident comes a day after the Mandera County leadership held a high-level meeting with the regional administration of Jubaland in Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
, with security within the region featuring predominantly during the encounter.

Jubbaland’s First Vice President, Mahmoud Sayid Aden, met with the Governor of Mandera County, Adan Khalif, in Kismayo to discuss shared security concerns along the porous frontier, where the al-Shabaab holy warrior group continues to threaten lives, trade, and regional stability.

Vice President Aden underscored the Jubbaland administration’s commitment to defeating al-Shabaab and protecting civilians on both sides of the border. Kenya Defence Forces plays a critical role in the stabilisation of Somalia.

"We will not allow al-Shabaab to disrupt economic activity or endanger the lives of our citizens and neighbors," Sayid said after the talks, stressing the importance of maintaining open and secure trade routes for the benefit of communities who depend on cross-border commerce.
Shabelle Media tells the tale without the hyperventilating:
Kenyan Security officers from the anti-terror police unit killed two terrorists during an ambush in Mandera on Monday.

According to the Counter Terrorism Policing, officers from the elite Special Operations Group (SOG), acting on intelligence, launched an operation in the wee hours of the night in Mandera and ambushed the terrorists as they were planning to launch an attack.

The militants from the Al Shabaab terror group were reportedly planning to terrorise Kenyans using the Alungu-Elwak road, Mandera County.

In a related development, on the morning of May 8, the elite SOG neutralised an Al-Shabaab terrorist in Garissa while responding to the reports by locals of militants attempting to plant improved explosive devices (IEDs) along the Dadaab-Hagadera road, targeting civilians and security vehicles.

During the exchange of fire, one militant was killed, and three others were injured. Security officers also managed to arrest one of the suspects.

The authorities recovered several weapons from the scene, including a PKM machine gun, an AK-47, a pistol, a comms radio, and an IED remote.

Sudan's SPLM-N may quit RSF-led alliance over government posts, sources say
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A power struggle over the prime minister post in a planned parallel government is threatening to fracture a new alliance between Sudan

It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. 's paramilitary RSF and a major rebel group, the SPLM-N, which may quit the bloc, sources said.

The dispute is stalling the formation of a government intended to rule areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allies.

While alliance members agreed that RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, known as Hemetti, would head a presidential council, a rift emerged over the next most powerful role.

The sources said armed movements led by al-Hadi Idris and El-Tahir Hajer are blocking the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North's (SPLM-N) demand for the premiership.

''The SPLM-N will likely withdraw if it is denied the post,'' sources within the alliance told Sudan Tribune.

Sudan army pulls back from border zone, cites threat from Libya

's army said on Wednesday it had evacuated a strategic border zone shared with Libya and Egypt, calling it a defensive move against potential incursions by militia forces loyal to Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
The move follows an accusation by the Sudanese army on Tuesday that Haftar's forces, fighting alongside Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), had attacked its border posts.

A group loyal to Haftar denied the charge, calling it a ''blatant attempt to export Sudan's internal crisis and create a virtual external enemy'' and said one of its own patrols had been attacked.

In a statement, a Sudanese army front man said the evacuation of the triangle area was part of ''defensive arrangements to repel aggression.''

Tensions in the remote region flared on June 6, when a Libyan unit loyal to Haftar reportedly entered about 3 km (2 miles) into Sudanese territory near Mount Arkenu. A clash with an gang allied with Sudan's army left two Libyan soldiers dead and others captured, according to the initial report.

ese doctors' network said on Tuesday, warning of a ''frightening'' spread of malnutrition.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have besieged El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, since April 2024, blocking food and humanitarian aid from entering the city of nearly one million people. Residents now line up to obtain 'Umbaz', a peanut residue used as animal feed, which has become the only food available for many to survive.

In a statement, the Sudan Doctors Network said the 179 deaths were a result of ''deliberate rocket shelling by the RSF''. The group issued an urgent appeal to save more than 350,000 children at direct risk of severe acute malnutrition due to the ''deliberate siege''.

It called for an immediate humanitarian corridor, warning that any delay ''constitutes genocide for the nearly one million citizens besieged'' in the city.

The RSF has intensified shelling, even as its ground assaults have been repelled by the army and its allies since mid-May. The repeated targeting of the Abu Shouk camp for displaced people has forced about 500 new families to flee in the last three days alone, a camp spokesperson said.

ese army dronezap on Tuesday hit a school being used as a shelter for displaced people in West Kordofan state, killing at least eight, including a child, and injuring nine others, a local emergency response group said.

In a statement received by Sudan Tribune, the West Kordofan State Emergency Room said an army drone struck the Abu Zabad Secondary School for Girls, which was sheltering people who had fled the war seeking safety. The group demanded that both warring parties comply with international law and protect unarmed civilians.

The strike comes amid escalating tensions in West Kordofan, where both the army, backed by allied armed movements, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been mobilizing fighters for renewed confrontations.

The RSF has captured several towns in the wider Kordofan region in recent weeks after fierce battles.

The emergency group issued an appeal to international organizations for a rapid response, saying displaced people were overcrowding shelters, residential neighbourhoods, and public squares in the Abu Zabad area.

s on Tuesday, deploying its navy to hit targets in the Red Sea port of Hodeidah and threatening the Iran-aligned movement with a naval and air blockade if attacks on Israel persist.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said Israel carried out two strikes on the docks of Al Hodeidah port. The Israeli army said in a statement that the navy struck Houthi targets, adding that the port is used by the group to transfer weapons.

There were no immediate reports of casualties. Israel has been hitting Houthi targets with air strikes in a military campaign launched after the country severely weakened Iran's other Middle East partners.

The Israeli military on Monday urged the evacuation of the Houthi-controlled ports of Ras Isa, Hodeidah and Salif.

"We warned the Houthi terror organization that if they continue to fire toward Israel, they will face a powerful response and will be subjected to a naval and aerial blockade", Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a statement on X.

Caribbean-Latin America
Record number: nearly 1.3 million Haitians now internally displaced
[AFRICANEWS] Never before has Haiti recorded this many internally displaced persons (IDPs) within its borders, according to a new report released by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The root of these dramatic population movements lies in the gang violence, which has held the country in its grip for several years now. But the number of armed attacks, kidnappings, rape cases and sexual violence have made the situation unbearable for large parts of the population.

While most armed gangs operate in the capital, Port-au-Prince, the violence has been spreading to the countryside and other parts of the country - also increasing refugee numbers there.

"As more people are forced to flee, the number of spontaneous displacement sites is also rising. Since December, these sites have jumped from 142 to 246. The sharpest increase is in areas that previously had none, like the Centre department, which now hosts 85 sites," notes the IOM.

The Centre and North departments saw the largest increase in IDP numbers, and 77% of IDPs continue to be hosted in the provinces outside the capital.

The humanitarian situation has worsened in the face of this crisis: with refugee numbers putting a strain on local infrastructure and resources, many face a life without access to schools, healthcare or clean water.

International efforts to curb the violence have so far not yielded the results that governments and Haitians alike hoped for. A Kenyan-led police mission is currently the main international force deployed to fight the gangs.

Irish fury over asylum crisis: How resentment is boiling over nationwide, with thousands attending latest anti-migrant protests following huge surge in refugees and country's pro-Palestine, anti-Israel stance
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Thousands took to the streets of Cork over the weekend for two very different demonstrations - one a pro-Palestine march and the other described as a 'national protest for Ireland'.

Some 3,000 people joined the latter, an anti-immigration rally organised by Ireland Says No - which attendees said signalled a feeling in the country that 'enough is enough'.

Protesters, describing themselves as Irish patriots and nationalists, said they have two main grievances - 'mass migration' and a belief that they have been forgotten by the government.

Footage of the march shows a sea of tricolour flags raised above the crowds, with chants including 'Ireland for the Irish' and 'Whose streets? Our streets!'.

The rally's lead organiser, ultra-nationalist Dublin councillor Malachy Steenson, said that the size of the crowd would instill confidence in people who were concerned about airing their criticisms.

'We don't care what Brussels says,' he told the crowd, 'we are going to take this country and run it for the benefit of its people.'

Speaking before local elections in November, he stated his view on how he felt this could be achieved: 'We need to close the borders and stop any more migrants coming in.'

Recent figures show that Ireland is housing more than 33,000 applicants for what is known as 'international protection', up from 7,244 in 2017.

According to official statistics, the number of Palestinians who applied in 2024 increased by more than 700 per cent from the previous year - when the conflict in Gaza erupted.

The Irish government has been vocal in its support of the Palestinian people, officially recognising the Palestinian state last year and formally intervening in South Africa's International Court of Justice case alleging genocide by Israel in Gaza. Both decisions drew condemnation from Israel. The Irish government was asked whether its show of support would strengthen Palestinian asylum claims, but refused to comment.

The protests in Cork passed peacefully on Saturday, with police dividing the two marches with a barrier and organisers of each encouraging marchers to behave responsibly.

Speaker Derek Blighe, the former president of the Ireland First party who failed to get elected to the Dail in November, told crowds that young Irish people felt they had no choice but to leave the country. He accused the government of putting 'diversity and climate and foreigners first' and said that nationalists wanted to give the Irish diaspora 'a homeland to return to'.

As many as 150,000 people moved to Ireland in 2023-24, Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures revealed, the highest number in 17 years. Around 30,000 of these were returning Irish citizens.

In terms of asylum seekers, alongside arrivals from Africa and the Middle East, 100,000 refugees flocked to the country following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Each costs the country nearly £70 a day, according to estimates - a figure that has increased by a third in two years.

Last month, around a thousand people joined a march in County Donegal's Letterkenny, while several hundred organised a counter-protest. Local independent councillor Seamus Treanor said people living in his ward did not feel safe in their own homes due to heightened levels of anti-social behaviour.

'I want to get one thing straight - the reason we have a housing problem in this county is because our government opened our borders, and invited the whole third world to come in.

'They came in their tens of thousands, and communities like Carrickmacross are suffering the consequences.'

At the end of last year the Irish Refugee Council revealed there were a record 3,001 asylum seekers homeless in Ireland. Pictures of encampments in Dublin and reports last year that a former paint factory was being turned into accommodation for 550 asylum seekers sparked fury among anti-immigration campaigners.

Gardai clashed with hundreds of people at the former Crown Paints factory in Coolock last July. A number of fires were started at the site and dramatic photos showed a digger in flames. The police force charged 15 people in relation to the public order incidents at the north Dublin site.

In November 2023, right wing figures including MMA star Conor McGregor ramped up fury over online misinformation and unsubstantiated rumours that a Algerian migrant had stabbed three children outside a kindergarten in Dublin. Riots exploded in the city, with a bus and tram torched and property destroyed as around 500 thugs rampaged across the city. Some of the rioters started a fire on the ground floor of a Holiday Inn Express following rumours that migrants were staying there. Others reportedly petrol-bombed a nearby refugee centre, with fire crews who responded being 'pelted with projectiles' and beaten with iron rods. Police officers were also attacked, with around 50 sustaining injuries, while one cab driver was punched and dragged from his taxi.

To date, 85 people have been arrested in connection with the November 2023 riots, with 66 charged.

While anti-immigration protests in Ireland have been peaceful in recent weeks, Dublin saw another wave of violence in February, again seemingly fuelled by anger over migration levels. Shocking videos showed Dublin descending into chaos - with knife fights on the streets and mass brawls erupting in residential roads. There were similar scenes of violence in Northern Ireland on Monday night.

Anti-immigration riots erupted in Ballymena after two teenagers of Romanian descent appeared in court accused of attempting to rape a local girl. Social media footage showed homes in Co Antrim on fire after a masked mob lit curtains after windows and doors of terraced properties in the town were caved in.
Four houses were destroyed after 2,500 people gathered in the Harryville area. Two more properties were also damaged and 15 police officers hospitalised. Police have said the violence is being investigated as racially-motivated hate attacks.

Former CIA analyst sentenced to 37 months in prison for leaking Israeli attack plans
Whether he acted to spite Israel or to help Iran, if Iran gets nukes he will own the outcome. And if Mossad finds him later, he’ll deserve whatever follows.

was sentenced to 37 months in prison on Wednesday, the Justice Department said.

Asif Rahman, 34, who worked for the Central Intelligence Agency since 2016 and held a top secret security clearance, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia in November.

In January, Rahman pleaded guilty at a federal courthouse in Virginia to two counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information.

He faced a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Iran unleashed a wave of close to 200 ballistic missiles on Israel on October 1 in retaliation for the killings of senior figures in the Tehran-backed Hamas

and Hezbollah terrorist groups.

Israel responded with a wave of strikes on military targets in Iran in late October.

According to a court filing, on October 17 Rahman printed out two top secret documents "regarding a United States foreign ally and its planned kinetic actions against a foreign adversary."

He photographed the documents and used a computer program to edit the images in "an attempt to conceal their source and delete his activity," it said.

Rahman then transmitted the documents to "multiple individuals he knew were not entitled to receive them" before shredding them at work.

The documents, circulated on the Telegram app by an account called Middle East Spectator, described Israeli preparations for a possible strike on Iran but did not identify any actual targets.

According to The Washington Post, the documents, generated by the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, described aviation exercises and movements of munitions at an Israeli airfield.

The leak led Israeli officials to delay their retaliatory strike.

murderous Moslems during the onslaught, the military said.

The second hostage, whose name was set to be permitted for publication at a later time, was also kidnapped from Nir Oz and murdered during the onslaught. His family was notified that the body had been recovered.

The operation to recover the bodies was carried out by the army’s 36th Division and was "enabled by precise intelligence" obtained by the military’s Hostages Headquarters unit, the Military Intelligence Directorate, and the Shin Bet, the Israel Defense Forces said.

After the bodies were brought to Israel and identified at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, also known as Abu Kabir, officials notified their families and the kibbutz.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences in a statement, saying: "Together with all citizens of Israel, my wife and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their dearest loved ones."

"We will not rest until we return all our hostages home, the living and dead," he added.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said, "returning the bodies of the [slain hostages] during the expanded ground maneuver was set as one of the goals of the operation."

Nir Oz was one of the worst-hit communities during Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught.

In all, 47 people were killed in the kibbutz during the onslaught. Another 76 were kidnapped by the murderous Moslems to Gaza. Currently, four hostages are presumed alive, and the bodies of five captives from Nir Oz remain held in the Strip.

Yaakov, 59, and his partner, Meirav Tal, were kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, as Hamas murderous Moslems assaulted the community. Yaakov’s sons, Or and Yagil, were also taken captive from their mother’s nearby Nir Oz home.

Tal and Yaakov’s sons were released in a November 2023 hostage deal with Hamas.

Yagil thanked Israel’s security forces for recovering his father’s body in a post on Instagram. He expressed his hope that the remaining hostages will be returned "through a deal that doesn’t endanger soldiers."

on Wednesday, an Israeli television report claimed that Israel formulated a response to the latest offer in the ongoing hostage-ceasefire negotiations with Hamas that includes some flexibility but maintains its demand not to end the war.

According to the unsourced report in Channel 12 news, Israel is offering flexibility in the timeline of the release of hostages, as well as in lengthening the period of time of a ceasefire.

The report claimed, however, that Israel is standing firm on its refusal to agree to a permanent end to the war, and is also demanding to continue to control the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Strip.

The TV report said that the latest amendments were formulated in a limited meeting of officials last night that included Katz and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

The latest US proposal offered a 60-day truce in the war-torn Gaza Strip, accompanied by a partial Israeli military withdrawal and increased humanitarian aid deliveries, in exchange for the release of 10 living hostages and 18 deceased hostages. Hamas’s response to the offer included a demand that would make it more difficult for Israel to resume fighting if talks on a permanent ceasefire were not completed by the end of the 60-day truce.

Channel 12 also reported that several unnamed senior ministers have begun to speak out about the need to end the war against Hamas, citing the "diplomatic damage" being caused by the lengthy fighting and the enormous damage in Gaza.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip are now holding 53 hostages, including 52 of the 251 kidnapped by Hamas-led murderous Moslems on October 7, 2023.

They include the bodies of at least 31 confirmed dead by the IDF, and 20 are believed to be alive. There are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said.

Hamas released 30 hostages — 20 Israeli civilians, five soldiers, and five Thai nationals — and the bodies of eight slain Israeli captives during a ceasefire between January and March, and one additional hostage, a dual American-Israeli citizen, in May as a "gesture" to the United States.

The terror group freed 105 civilians during a weeklong truce in late November 2023, and four hostages were released before that in the early weeks of the war. In exchange, Israel has freed some 2,000 incarcerated

Paleostinian terrorists, security prisoners, and Gazook terror suspects detained during the war.

Eight hostages have been rescued from captivity by troops alive, and the bodies of 46 have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the Israeli military as they tried to escape their captors, and the body of a soldier who was killed in 2014.

The body of another soldier killed in 2014, Lt. Hadar Goldin, is still being held by Hamas, and is counted among the 53 hostages.

Gaza aid group says Hamas killed at least 5 local staffers, possibly abducted others
[IsraelTimes] GHF says operatives attacked bus ferrying workers to distribution site, while Hamas-linked accounts say terror group targeted members of Israel-backed clan, which it denies

Humanitarian Foundation said Wednesday that Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
operatives attacked a bus transporting its local Gazook staffers, killing at least five, injuring others and potentially taking some hostage.

The bus was ferrying the staffers to one of GHF’s aid distribution sites near the southern Gaza Strip’s Khan Younis at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday when it came under attack, a GHF statement said.

The statement noted that GHF was still working to gather the facts on what unfolded and a spokesperson didn’t immediately provide any corroborating evidence.

Hamas-linked social media accounts published a statement on what they said was the terror group’s attack on members of the Israel-backed Abu Shabaab clan in which five people were killed and 12 more were maimed.

It was not immediately possible to verify the identities of those killed. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
a Facebook page run by the Abu Shabaab clan issued a statement denying that its members were targeted by Hamas.

"This attack did not happen in a vacuum. For days, Hamas has openly threatened our team, our aid workers, and the civilians who receive aid from us. These threats were met with silence," GHF said, adding that the attack will not deter the organization’s efforts to provide aid to Paleostinians in Gaza.

Hamas has pushed for the resumption of aid distribution through UN-backed mechanisms, which Israel and the US say allowed the terror group to divert much of the aid. The UN has denied this, while arguing that the GHF model for aid distribution endangers Paleostinians, by forcing them to walk long distances across IDF lines in order to pick up boxes of food.

Red Thingy and Hamas-linked health officials have reported near-daily mass-casualty incidents involving Paleostinians trekking to aid sites since GHF’s launch on May 26. The IDF has acknowledged on at least eight different occasions that it fired "warning shots" that struck those who strayed off the pre-approved access routes.

GHF said Wednesday it has distributed roughly 271,200 boxes of aid to date, but they are largely filled with dry food products that need to be prepared elsewhere.

An average of 65 aid trucks have entered Gaza each day since Israel partially lifted its blockade on May 19, but the World Food Program says roughly 300 trucks a day are needed to properly serve Gaza’s population, which IDF officials acknowledged was on the brink of starvation before it resumed allowing aid in last month after a 78-day blockade.

The UN and other humanitarian organizations have argued that neutralizing the threat of looting requires flooding Gaza with as much aid as possible so demand and costs go down, rather than rationing assistance as Israel has done over the past month.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday local time, GHF issued an additional statement updating Gazooks that it had just finished distributing boxes of food at its central Gaza site, even though the IDF has repeatedly warned Paleostinians not to approach aid sites before 6 a.m.

The GHF announcement was made on its Arabic Facebook page, which it uses to communicate with Paleostinians about operating hours at the distribution sites.

A GHF spokesperson did not explain why the Israeli- and US-backed organization appeared to be distributing aid overnight, when the IDF has cautioned Paleostinians against walking to the sites. It has done so on several other occasions over the past two and a half weeks of operation.

Hours earlier, footage of a GHF aid site being completely overrun by Gazooks upon opening on Tuesday had gone viral on social media. The scene highlighted the chaos that has plagued GHF aid distribution sites since their launch.

Israel says 108 humanitarian aid trucks carrying flour, food entered Gaza Strip yesterday

[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announces that 108 humanitarian aid trucks carrying flour and food entered the Gaza Strip yesterday.

Israel resumed aid deliveries to Gaza on May 19, after a pause since March 2. Since then, 1,459 trucks have entered the Strip.

Some of the truckloads have been taken to the new aid distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The contents of many of the trucks that entered Gaza in recent weeks are still awaiting collection on the Gazan side of the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The aid underwent an inspection by Israeli authorities before entering Gaza via the crossing.

Iran executes man over 2022 protest killings; activists say he was framed
[IsraelTimes] Dissidents and human rights groups say Abbas Kourkouri was tortured into confessing to killing seven people who were likely shot by security forces

activists say he was tortured into confessing to killings likely carried out by security services.

The hanging of Abbas Kourkouri, also known as Mojahed Kourkouri, marks the first execution in nearly a year for someone arrested in the 2022 protests surrounding the death of Amini, who were tossed into the calaboose by police allegedly over not wearing her hijab to their liking.

Her death sparked months of demonstrations. Even today, some women refuse to wear their headscarves in public, openly defying a hijab law instituted by the country’s theocracy.

It’s unclear why authorities chose now to execute Kourkouri, 42, though tensions have been rising regionally over Iran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program, and the result of talks with the United States remains uncertain.

Iran is one of the world’s top executioners and has been cracking down in other ways on dissidents in the time since the Amini demonstrations.

Kourkouri "was sentenced to death without a fair trial and without access to a lawyer of his choice," said Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam of the Oslo-based group Iran Human Rights, which tallied an average of one execution in the Islamic Theocratic Republic every six hours over the last eight months.

SHOOTING HAPPENED DURING AMINI PROTESTS
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported at the time that on November 16, 2022, two button men on cycle of violences shot at protesters and security personnel gathered at the central market in the southwestern city of Izeh in the country’s restive, oil-rich Khuzestan province.

The assault killed seven people, including a nine-year-old boy. It maimed three coppers and two members of the Basij, the all-volunteer arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The death of the nine-year-old, named Kian Pirfalak, drew anger from Iranians, particularly after his family reportedly said it was security forces — not other button men — who opened fire.

Kourkouri was accused of being one of the button men and subsequently charged with a spate of offenses, including "moharebeh" — an Islamic term meaning waging a battle against God.

Authorities arrested him in December 2022 after reportedly shooting him in the leg. Activists say he was denied medical treatment beyond the bullet’s removal.

State media described Kourkouri as a drug pusher and "instigator" with a history of bully boy beliefs. But rights advocates say he isn’t the violent mostly peaceful person authorities have made him out to be, and was himself an innocent protester.

"He was arrested during the ’Woman, Life, Freedom’ protests, and the Islamic Theocratic Republic authorities attempted to blame him" for the attack, Amiry-Moghaddam said.

He added that the slain boy’s parents and uncle believed Iranian security forces were responsible.

The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, which also monitors Iran, similarly dismissed the Iranian government’s claims.

"While authorities continue to describe the events of November 16 in Izeh as a ’terrorist attack,’ eyewitnesses and the families of victims have presented accounts that contradict the government’s narrative," it said Wednesday.

The group quoted Kian’s mother as saying: "On our way home, officers opened fire on our car."

State media earlier broadcast videos of Kourkouri taking blame for the attack. But Amnesty International said that authorities subjected him to solitary confinement and coerced his confessions, and that he wasn’t at the scene at the time of the killings.

One videotaped confession that had been aired on state TV showed Kourkouri in bed with his arm visibly bandaged and bloody, the rights group said. The footage resembled that of many other suspected coerced confessions broadcast by the Iranian broadcaster.

Kourkouri’s death brings the tally of executions related to violence at the Amini protests up to 11. The last such execution came 10 months ago, after Reza Resaei, 34, was sentenced to death over the killing of a security officer. Rights groups also said his confession was forced.

IRAN STILL FACES DISSENT YEARS LATER
On the streets of Iranian cities, it’s becoming increasingly common to see a woman pass by without a mandatory hijab, as the third anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini and the mass protests it sparked approaches this fall.

The government has targeted private businesses where women are seen without their headscarves. Surveillance cameras search for women uncovered in vehicles to fine and impound their cars, and authorities have gone as far as to use aerial drones to monitor women.

The country’s reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian campaigned on a promise to curb the morality police’s harassment of women. But the country’s ultimate authority rests with its 86-year-old Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...>
Khamenei has in the past said "unveiling is both religiously forbidden and politically forbidden."

Blast at Iran petrochemical site leaves 3 dead, 10 injured
Allah’s will, or something else?
[Rudaw] At least three people have been killed and ten others injured after a large blast rocked a petrochemical complex in Iran’s southern Bushehr Province on Wednesday. The incident comes just two months after another explosion killed around 60 people and injured hundreds others at a port in the south of the country.

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that “a fire at the Kaveh Petrochemical Complex in Bandar Dayyer, Bushehr Province, left three dead and ten injured.” Hassan Mousavi, head of prehospital emergency care for the province, said the incident was sparked by “a fire at a methanol storage tank.”

“The number of casualties may rise due to the severity of the fire,” Mousavi added.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), cited Mojtaba Khaledi, the spokesperson for the Iranian Red Crescent, as stating that “the incident occurred at around 11:05 a.m. [local time] on Wednesday.” He confirmed that “three people were killed” and noted that “two more people are still trapped on the ship,” carrying the methanol tank.

Tasnim also quoted Kourosh Dehghan, director general of crisis management for Bushehr Province, who stated that the explosion was caused by welding operations on the ship.

Petro Kaveh Industrial Group’s methanol complex in Bushehr is among the world’s largest single-train methanol facilities, producing 7,000 tons of methanol per day.

Bushehr Province, situated along the Persian Gulf, is a key economic region for Iran. It hosts major ports, lies close to the South Pars gas field - the world’s largest natural gas reserve - and includes the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone. The province is central to Iran’s petrochemical production and energy exports, making it vital to Iran’s national energy security.

Wednesday’s deadly incident follows a massive explosion two months earlier at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, located in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province, where nearly 60 people were killed and around 1,000 injured.

The port, a major commercial hub for Iran, processes approximately 70 million tons of goods annually and sits along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a passageway for nearly one-fifth of global oil output.

(ISIS) members were captured in an operation in the northern Raqqa province.

"Our forces raided the hideout of the terrorist cell and successfully captured two terrorists, Abdul Sattar Abdul Fattah al-Muhammad, known as "Abu Amira," and his brother, Muhammad Abdul Fattah al-Muhammad, known as "Abu al-Baraa," the SDF said in a statement.

The operation, supported by the US-led international coalition, was carried out in al-Mansoura, a large town some 25 kilometers southwest of Raqqa, the former de facto capital of ISIS’s so-called "caliphate."

"The two forces of Evil were involved in the manufacture of improvised bombs (IEDs) and operated a facility specialized in producing weapon silencers and bombs," the statement added.

On Tuesday, another SDF operation captured an ISIS operative in Hasaka province’s Til Kochar area, near the Iraqi border. The operative managed ISIS-affiliated Telegram accounts and recruited youth to join the bully boy group, according to the SDF statement.

The operations come amid an escalation of ISIS attacks in the area, particularly targeting Kurdish-led forces and civilians, with the bandidos hard boyz seeking to exploit a security vacuum sparked by increased instability following the fall of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
