Trump's deportation program nets positive approval
[CBS News] Views of the Trump administration's deportation program headed into this weekend with positive net approval from Americans, including continued strong backing from the Republican base — but also heavily shaped by contrasting views about which people, and how many, are being targeted for deportation.
I participatedd in the YouGov poll that was the basis of the article and it was a beautiful example of 'push polling'. As usual for the MSM, the word 'illegal' was never included with 'immigrant'
And despite that those polled supported the Trump initiative? Imagine how much stronger the numbers would have been were the questions carefully balanced instead of biased!
The survey was completed just prior to Saturday's protests and events in Los Angeles.

On balance, more people see the program making the U.S. safer, compared to less safe.
Their nod to 'balanced coverage'. But there is plenty of ammunition in the article for Trump-bashers.
For the Americans who feel the administration is trying to deport more people than they expected, they're less approving of the program.
See? It's about the feelz.
Support for new tariffs in general remains net negative. Americans continue to think they will lead to higher prices at least in the short run, and often in the long run too. That's generally been the case for a while.

Here again, more people like what they think are Trump's goals with tariffs than his approach.
A lot of data to be spun.

#1  Trump has a deportation program? Trump couldnt even successfully deport the non-citizen Garcia. If you were watching LA last weekend, how could you tell?

Positive Approval is an understatement. What Trump is doing is better than what we would have gotten with any other candidate, but what he is doing is still so marginal that it wont make a difference other than giving Trump 'The Feelz Goods'.

I'm a minority in this country now and resent it. If Trump doesnt fix it, people like me... Democracy gave the world Hitler, voter dejection gave the world Caesar. If Trump doesnt fix things, we tried Tea Party, we tried the Nationalist MAGA Candidate... What comes next... History doesnt repeat, but it rhymes. And what comes next seems fairly obvious to me - I dont know how and what manifests but the odds are, something will...

A large plasma ejection occurred near the south pole of the Sun
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] An exceptionally large plasma emission occurred in the region of the Sun's south pole. This was reported on the website of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Scientists recorded the emission at about 11:00 Moscow time on June 8. According to experts, the cloud of rare size and density was formed as a result of the destabilization of a giant solar prominence. Since it was located on the far side of the Sun, it was impossible to observe it from Earth.

It is noted that the moment the prominence rose above the edge of the Sun was recorded by several space telescopes operating in Earth orbit.

"The ejection will remain in the field of view of spacecraft for about another day. This will allow us to determine its trajectory much more accurately, which, however, will only become clear in all its details by the end of the day," the report says.

Experts noted that globally the Sun continues to demonstrate the presence of large reserves of explosive energy.

Trans military colonel issues defiant message after being booted from post as Trump ban takes effect
Goodbye and good luck, with thanks for your service and the hope that you finally get help with your issues instead of having them expensively encouraged.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] One of the military's highest ranking transgender officials is speaking out after being placed on administrative leave as part of the Trump administration's ban on trans troops.

Colonel Bree Fram, who came out as transgender in 2016 when the initial ban on trans troops was lifted, was an astronautical engineer in the US Space Force and was the Pentagon's division chief for requirements integration.
I have no idea what that means.
She posted to Instagram Friday saying 'I have been officially placed on administrative leave, effective tomorrow, pending separation' after the Supreme Court ruled the ban could go ahead.
How many more of the necessary spacey thingamabobs will they be able to afford now that they needn’t pay for his expensive hormone treatments and such? I don’t imagine the Space Force needs much in the way of bullets…
Fram - whose profile picture on the social media app is an LGBT rainbow version of the Space Force logo - defiantly spoke of sobbing as she pinned medals on three of 'my folks' in her last official act in service.

'The last salute broke my heart in two and the tears flowed freely even as I have so much to be thankful for and so many amazing memories.'
Ohfergawdsake! Maybe big military men cry like little girls, but not female ones showing they can play with the big boys. Do stop playacting.
Fram detailed the day she came out in 2016, telling a story of how her teammates responded to the announcement by shaking her hand and, one by one, saying: 'It's an honor to serve with you.'
President Obama made it clear what his rules were, regardless of the private opinions of those in uniform on something that had nothing to do with the quality and value of the colonel’s work.
She also spoke about a similar experience last week, when she announced at a joint staff meeting that she was leaving and that she no longer met 'the current standard for military excellence and readiness.'

'A room full of senior leaders, admirals and generals, walked over to me and the scene from 2016 repeated. They offered those same words, now tinged with the sadness of past tense: 'It's been an honor to serve with you',' she said.

She added that she walked away with tears in her eyes because Fram felt that it had been her honor all along.

'It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this nation and defend the freedoms and opportunities we have as Americans. My wildest dreams came true wearing this uniform.'

In the past six months, Fram had been posting photos of her fellow transgender troops on Instagram listing their accomplishment with the tagline: 'Happens to Be Trans.'

Fram told Stars and Stripes that, most recently, her work had been focused on 'defining the future capabilities that we're going to need to win wars far into the future.'

She added that her Instagram post was an attempt to speak on behalf of her fellow transgender soldiers.

'It is almost a duty and an obligation to speak on their behalf because it is my privilege to do so and to hopefully represent transgender service members well that do not have the privilege that comes along with the rank and the experience that I do,' she said.

'If I don't speak for them and they are unable to speak for themselves, who will speak for them?'

In early May, the Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump's ban on troops with gender dysphoria can stand.

The ban enacted by the Department of Defense on February 26 detailed that 'the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals who have a current diagnosis or history of, or exhibit symptoms with, gender dysphoria are incompatible with the high mental and physical standards necessary for military service.'

The level challenge to the order was filed by Commander Emily Shilling, together with six other current transgender service members and one transgender person who wants to join the military.

Schilling appeared at the LGBT Community Center dinner on April 10 to be honored for the legal fight against the president and his administration.

'I swore an oath to support and defend the onstitution,' Schilling said. 'That oath requires obedience to lawful orders. But when an order undermines the very principles I swore to uphold, I have the responsibility to challenge it.'

Shortly after he was inaugurated in 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order overturning Trump's initial ban on service of transgender individuals in the military.

After Trump was inaugurated he ordered the ban to be reinstated.

Trump and Hegseth view the extra care required for transgender service members to be a distraction to military readiness.

In February, Hegseth ordered a pause on gender-transitioning medical procedures for active duty service members.

'Effective immediately, all new accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused, and all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for Service members are paused,' his memo said.

#1  I think the DM author included the phrase: Pentagon's division chief for requirements integration only because it sounded woke. I looked and the position is only about the integration of the other Services w/ Space Force.

#3  Entering the military is like entering a monastery system. You give up several things to join. As long as you are in the monastery you conform to its requirements in behavior and decorum. The monastery doesn't conform to yours.

#4  ... posting photos of her fellow transgender troops on Instagram listing their accomplishment with the tagline: 'Happens to Be Trans.'

Ain't no "happening" about it, you decided it. Essence precedes existence despite what you have been told.

Copilot sez... "Essence precedes existence" is a phrase from classic metaphysics that means the "essence" or "nature" of a thing exists in the mind of the creator before the actual thing exists in the world. In existentialism, the phrase "existence precedes essence" means that humans do not have a nature that determines their modes of being and acting, but rather, those modes are simply possibilities from which they may choose and on the basis of which they can project themselves

and thus "gender is a social construct" to existentialists. Such thinking influenced at least one nominee to SCOTUS to such a degree she did not think herself qualified to give a definition of a woman in a Senate hearing. Balderdash! Bad philosophy leads to bad policy.

Modern Tech and Old-School Spycraft Are Redefining War
[WSJ] Deception, infiltration and spycraft have played a major role in warfare at least since the ancient Greeks were said to have gifted a wooden horse to the citizens of Troy.

In more recent times, such operations rarely had a strategic effect, but the spectacular operations of Israeli intelligence against Hezbollah in Lebanon last fall and of Ukraine against Russia’s strategic bomber fleet last weekend have brought them back to the forefront of conflict in the 21st century.

Both showed how technological advances—such as drones, communications networks and smaller but more powerful batteries and explosives—can potentially alter the course of a war when they are coupled with superior tradecraft.

"Technology today allows you many new possibilities: There is a larger surface where you can actually detect places where your enemy is vulnerable due to the fact that you can bypass a lot of physical barriers that in the past you couldn’t bypass," said Eyal Tsir Cohen, a former senior division director of Israel’s Mossad intelligence service.

Yet, he added, many of the same technologies can also empower one’s opponents. "It always works both ways—it depends on which side is more sophisticated in exploiting the vulnerabilities of the other side," Cohen said. "You need good people to work with technology—technology rides on the shoulders of the human factor and not vice versa."
