‘You’re just yelling at a Jew,’ Regina Spektor tells pro-Palestinian heckler
[IsraelTimes] Jewish singer-songwriter stops concert to respond to demonstrator, suggests other member of audience leave for saying ‘there’s a genocide happening’

Jewish singer-songwriter Regina Spektor shot back at a pro-Paleostinian protester who interrupted her concert Saturday night, telling the protester, "You’re just yelling at a Jew."

Later, she engaged in a back and forth with another audience member about the hunger crisis in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. , in a dramatic example of how deeply Israel’s war in Gaza is interceding in the public consciousness and shaping the experience of Jews.

The confrontation came 10 songs into Spektor’s performance at Revolution Hall in Portland, Oregon, when a protester began shouting "Free f—ing Paleostine" from the crowd.

Spektor, who emigrated from the Soviet Union to the United States as a child, has faced scrutiny for her pro-Israel activism on social media. In November 2023, the singer rebuked fellow artist Bjork for sharing an infographic about the displacement of Paleostinians, and in July 2024 she was targeted by the Instagram account Zionists in Music for being a "proud Zionist who frequently posts her support for Israel on Instagram and X/Twitter."

During an event in New York to commemorate the anniversary of Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that started the ongoing war, Spektor sang a rendition of "Avinu Malkeinu," the classic High Holiday prayer.

On Saturday, the singer stopped her concert and began speaking directly to the pro-Paleostinian protester.

"You’re just yelling at a Jew," she said to the person who interrupted her set. To the rest of the crowd, she said, "I don’t know what he thinks he’s doing. I really appreciate the security. We had a really hard time last night, when I said, ’Shalom aleichem.’"

Most of the crowd responded by cheering for Spektor while others laughed, and several people yelled, "Am Yisrael Chai," according to video of the concert posted on social media. Later, while an audience member who had yelled "Free Paleostine" left the venue, Spektor said, "I thought this was different than the internet. This is real life."

When another audience member said, "There’s a genocide happening," Spektor said, "You can leave the show if you want. This is not an internet comment section. I know that you are mistaking my show for a YouTube video."

The audience member then replied, "I’m watching children dying. That hurts."

"I think you should go because this is not the place for that conversation," Spektor replied.

"The only reason I even speak English is because I came here to escape this shit," Spektor continued after several audience members left the concert. "I only speak English because I came from a country where people were treating Jews as others, and now I’m being othered here, and it sucks. It’ll be nice if one of my family’s generation didn’t have to go to a new country and learn a new language."
Mic drop.

Houthis release video of Russian sailor from cargo ship Eternity C
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Video footage, presumably of Russian sailor Alexei Galaktionov from the sunken bulk carrier Eternity C, was published by the ruling Shiite movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) in northern Yemen.

In the video, a man lies in a hospital bed, claiming that the ship's captain did not respond to a signal from Yemeni authorities, which is probably why the cargo ship was hit.

"If any company is planning to go to Eilat, do not turn off your communication devices. It is better not to go there at all, because this war (in the Gaza Strip. - Ed.) must end. You cannot send a ship to a high-risk area," Al Mayadeen quotes the man as saying.

In his opinion, crew members should be asked whether they want to go to a dangerous region.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria said on July 25 on Al Masirah TV that fighters from the Yemeni Shiite movement carried out strikes with a hypersonic missile and drones on targets in Israel, including Eilat, Ashkelon and Hadera. All of the strike's objectives were achieved, he added.

The Houthis also claimed responsibility for the attack on the Greek cargo ship Eternity C, which sank in the Red Sea, on July 9. The attack on the cargo ship was carried out using an unmanned boat, as well as six cruise and ballistic missiles. At the time of the attack, the cargo ship was heading to the port of Umm al-Rashrash (the Arabic name for Eilat). At least five people were rescued, another 15 are missing and are being searched for. At least two people on board were injured, including a Russian citizen. His limb was amputated.

Houthis release propaganda clip of kidnapped crew members from sunken ship

[IsraelTimes] Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis release video footage of kidnapped crew members from the Eternity C cargo ship, which the rebels sank earlier this month, claiming in an accompanying statement to have “rescued” the mariners.

The European Union’s Operation Aspides naval task force said earlier this month that 15 out of the 25 crew were still missing — with four of them presumed dead.

In the video, the Houthis show pictures of 10 crew members they claim to have “rescued.” The video appears to show the moment the mostly-Filipino crew were pulled from the sea wearing life-jackets.

“Eleven crew members were rescued at sea, including two injured, who were provided with medical care. One body, found aboard the ship before it sank, was transported to the hospital morgue,” the Houthis say in a statement.

The captive crew members, who appear coached on what to say, are filmed claiming that the ship was headed to the Israeli port of Eilat and at the end of the video, nine of them said in chorus: “We are sorry, Palestinians.”

Netanyahu’s lawyer in France claims Hezbollah put a bounty on his head, Netherlands bans Smotrich, Ben Gvir because ‘ethnic cleansing’ blood libel
[IsraelTimes] French police open probe after Olivier Pardo says he was told by ex-convict that the Lebanese terror group issued a contract to kill him due to his work on behalf of the PM

French authorities opened an investigation after a lawyer for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there was a contract on his head for defending the Israeli leader, the Gay Paree prosecutor’s office said on Monday.

Olivier Pardo told Sherlocks a former convict, Rudy Terranova, told him on July 16 that he had been approached to carry out a hit on the lawyer, a source close to the case said, confirming a report in the newspaper Le Gay Pareeien.

Terranova said he was approached to carry out the job while on a trip to Senegal

Pardo told AFP he was "calm, it’s one of the risks of my job when you defend causes which have sparked debate in La Belle France."

"I am confident that the judiciary will determine whether this is a real or a phantom menace," said the lawyer, who counts prominent French politicians including the far-right figure Eric Zemmour among his other clients.

According to Le Gay Pareeien, Terranova was taken into custody in the week beginning on July 21 in connection with the case, though AFP was not able to confirm this.

A former gang member, Terranova was convicted in 2004 of violence considered to be motivated by Islamist radicalism.

He served as a police informant and was later suspected of being behind an attempt in 2007 to murder another lawyer, Karim Achoui. He was acquitted of that charge.

The Netherlands bans Smotrich, Ben Gvir from entering country, citing support for ‘ethnic cleansing’

[IsraelTimes] The Netherlands bans far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from entering the country, as part of a raft of measures to pressure Israel over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Dutch media reports.

In a letter to Dutch lawmakers quoted by local newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, the Netherlands’ Foreign Minister Caspar Valdekamp says the move against Smotrich and Ben Gvir “is because they have repeatedly incited violence by settlers against the Palestinian population and… called for ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip.”

Responding to the ban against him, Ben Gvir writes on X: “Even if I’m banned from all of Europe, I’ll keep working for our country and demanding that we topple Hamas and back our fighters. Our enemies are violent, murderous rapists. But in Europe… the one who goes on the offensive is guilty. In a place where terrorism is tolerated and terrorists are welcome, a Jewish minister from Israel is unwelcome. Terrorists are free and Jews are boycotted.”

Smotrich does not immediately comment.

The ban on Ben Gvir and Smotrich’s entry comes a day after Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof announced that his government was “considering taking national measures” against Israel, in addition to supporting a European Union proposal to partially suspend funding for Israeli researchers.

EU proposes cutting Israeli access to research funds over Gaza humanitarian crisis
[IsraelTimes] Israel says move is ‘regrettable, and unjustified,’ hopes EU member states will choose not to adopt proposal, which requires support from 15 out of 27 countries to pass

Multiple EU countries said last week that Israel was not living up to its commitments under an agreement with the European Union on increasing aid supplies to Gaza and asked the Commission to put concrete options on the table.

The proposal to partially suspend Israel’s participation in the Horizon Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
program needs approval from a qualified majority of EU countries to take effect — at least 15 of the EU’s 27 members, representing at least 65 percent of its population.

The European Commission said in a statement that the proposal comes as a reaction to a review of Israel’s compliance with the human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
clause of an agreement governing its relations with the EU.

The bloc’s diplomatic service said in June that there were indications that Israel had breached its obligations under the terms of the pact.

"While Israel has announced a daily humanitarian pause in Gaza fighting and has met some of its commitments under the common understanding on humanitarian aid and access, the situation remains severe," the Commission said on Monday. "The proposed suspension is a targeted and reversible action."

Brussels said the proposal would impact Israel’s participation in the bloc’s European Innovation Council Accelerator, thus halting access to funding for Israeli start-ups involved in fields that include drone technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

Last year, Israel was in the top three countries for the number of companies vying for funding, along with Germany and La Belle France.

It did not say how much funding would be affected by the proposed freeze.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said in a post on the social media platform X on Monday that the Commission’s move was "mistaken, regrettable, and unjustified" and that it hoped EU member countries would not adopt the proposal.

Israel has been participating in the EU’s research programs since 1996, taking part in thousands of joint projects over the past decades.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said on Monday evening that he had informed President Isaac Herzog that if the EU determines on Tuesday that Israel is not in compliance with humanitarian agreements with the bloc, then the Netherlands will back the suspension of Israel’s participation in Horizon.

"If that proves to be the case tomorrow in Brussels, the Netherlands will also press for further European measures, for example, in the realm of trade," wrote Schoof on X, adding that there may be Dutch measures as well.

Herzog, in a rare move for Israel’s titular head of state, then took to X to dispute Schoof’s accounting of their call.

"Sorry Prime Minister, with all due respect — this tweet does not reflect the spirit and details of the call," responded Herzog.

"Nor does it reflect my crystal clear position that it will be a HUGE mistake if EU takes such steps especially in light of Israel’s ongoing and upgraded humanitarian efforts," he added.

The normally genteel Herzog also noted that Schoof did not mention Israeli hostages in Gaza or call for their release during their call, something which he said he was "especially saddened" by.

Earlier this month, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Israel had agreed to expand humanitarian access to Gaza, including increasing the number of aid trucks, crossing points and routes to distribution hubs.

But in a tense meeting of European ambassadors in Brussels last week, countries including La Belle France, the Netherlands, and Spain said not enough was being done, according to diplomats.

The EU has already presented a list of options that the bloc could undertake to pressure Israel on Gaza, but has so far refrained from pursuing any of them.

Israel on Sunday announced a halt in military operations for 10 hours a day in parts of Gaza, as well as new corridors, to allow for the distribution of aid. Israel, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates have also airdropped supplies into the enclave. Spain said Monday it will airdrop 12 tons of aid into the Strip this week as well.

But officials and aid groups remain concerned and say much more needs to be done to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Israeli authorities have denied claims of widespread famine in the enclave, but acknowledged issues with food access, blaming shortages on a lack of cooperation by the UN and other international organizations.

Trump threatens new strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Washington is ready to launch new strikes on Iranian nuclear program facilities, US President Donald Trump said on July 28.

"We have destroyed their (Iran's - editor's note) nuclear capability. They can start again. If they do, we will destroy it faster than you can wave a finger," Trump said at a press conference after meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to the head of the White House, the United States is receiving “very unpleasant signals” from Iran.

On July 22, the American president also announced his readiness to carry out repeated strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. Before that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghch, said that Tehran was not yet ready for direct negotiations with Washington on the Iranian nuclear program, but the country was ready to take any confidence-building measures necessary to confirm the peaceful nature of the nuclear program.

Dozens of countries attend UN confab on two-states boycotted by US and Israel

said in opening remarks.

Days before the conference, French President Emmanuel Macron announced he would formally recognize Paleostinian statehood in September, provoking strong opposition from Israel and the United States.

Luxembourg hinted Monday that it could follow La Belle France and recognize a Paleostinian state in September, with the possibility that other countries could announce similar plans when the conference resumes Tuesday.

La Belle France is hoping Britannia will follow its lead. More than 200 British members of parliament on Friday voiced support for the idea, but Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that recognition of a Paleostinian state "must be part of a wider plan."

For decades, most UN members have supported a two-state solution with Israel and a Paleostinian state existing side-by-side.

’s October 2023 terror onslaught, the ongoing expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and Israeli officials declaring designs to annex the territory along with the Gaza Strip.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said it would be an "illusion to think that you can get to a lasting ceasefire without having an outline of what’s going to happen in Gaza after the end of the war and having a political horizon."

Beyond advocating for encouraging the mass migration of Paleostinians from Gaza, Israel has offered little detail of what it envisions for a post-war Strip and has pushed back against international calls for the Paleostinian Authority to gain a foothold in the enclave.

Barrot told news hounds at the UN that while there was international consensus that the time for a political solution to the Israel-Paleostinian conflict is now, words need to be followed up with action.

"The European Commission, on behalf of the EU, has to express its expectations and show the means that we can incentivize the Israeli government to hear this appeal," he said.

The aim of the conference, Barrot said, was "to reverse the trend of what is happening in the region — mainly the erasure of the two-state solution, which has been for a long time the only solution that can bring peace and security in the region."

He urged the European Commission to call on Israel to lift a financial blockade on 2 billion euros he says the Israeli government owes the Paleostinian Authority; stop settlement building in the West Bank, which threatens the territorial integrity of a future Paleostinian state; and end the "militarized" food delivery system in Gaza by the US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.. Critics of the GHF have denounced its distribution sites as "death traps," with hundreds of Paleostinians reportedly killed while trying to gather aid .

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon said on Monday: "This conference does not promote a solution, but rather deepens the illusion. Instead of demanding the release of the hostages and working to dismantle Hamas’s reign of terror, the conference organizers are engaging in discussions and plenaries that are disconnected from reality."

The Trump administration tore into the "unproductive and ill-timed" UN conference, calling it a "publicity stunt that comes in the middle of delicate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict."

"Far from promoting peace, the conference will prolong the war, embolden Hamas and reward its obstruction and undermine real-world efforts to achieve peace," the State Department said in a statement.

The US again called out Macron for saying he will recognize a Paleostinian state in September, noting that the French announcement was welcomed by Hamas. Gay Paree’s decision was also welcomed by the more moderate PA, which backs a two-state solution with Israel.

The US statement avoided criticizing Saudi Arabia, which helped engineer Macron’s announcement and is co-hosting this week’s UN conference. Trump has a close relationship with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

...Crown Prince and modernizer of Saudi Arabia as of 2016. The Turks hate him, so he must be all right, despite the occasional brutal murder of Qatar-owned journalists...
, who has pledged to invest billions in the US economy.

The US statement did not express a broader position on the two-state solution. Trump officials have avoided weighing in on the matter, but have not criticized the Israeli government as it has taken steps in the West Bank aimed at foreclosing such a framework.

Beyond facilitating conditions for recognizing Paleostine, French officials said the conference is focused on three other issues: Reforming the Paleostinian Authority, disarming Hamas and excluding it from Paleostinian public life, and normalizing relations between Israel and Arab states.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its stance that normalization with Israel "can only come through the establishment of a Paleostinian state."

Speaking at a presser on the sidelines of the UN event, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said that stance was in keeping with the position outlined a year ago by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"It is based on a strong conviction that only through the establishment of a Paleostinian state, and only through addressing the legitimate rights of the Paleostinian people to self-determination, can we have sustainable peace and real integration in the region," Prince Faisal said.

Israeli officials have long insisted that Riyadh would be willing to settle for less, perhaps even mere lip service to a two-state solution in exchange for normalizing ties with Israel.

Saudi officials have pushed back against that notion, demanding that Israel establish an irreversible, time-bound pathway to the establishment of a Paleostinian state.

Israel, under the current government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has long rejected such a framework and has taken steps toward formally annexing West Bank lands that Paleostinians hope would be part of their future state.

Paleostinian Authority Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa used the conference to reiterate Ramallah’s call for the release of all hostages and for Hamas to end its control of Gaza and transfer its weapons to the PA, during an address aimed at promoting a two-state solution.

"All countries bear the responsibility to act now to end the war against our people in Gaza and throughout Paleostine, to ensure the release of all hostages and prisoners, and to ensure the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces," he said.

Mustafa added that the PA is prepared to welcome and coordinate with an international Arab force that will help stabilize Gaza after the war.

While Israel has expressed openness to assistance from Arab countries like the United Arab Emirates, those countries have conditioned such support on the PA’s involvement, which Israel has long rejected, likening the Ramallah-based entity to Hamas.

"We must all work to reunify the Gaza Strip with the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, without occupation, siege, settlements, forced displacement or annexation," Mustafa said. "We must rebuild Gaza with and for our people, end the occupation, achieve Paleostinian independence, and implement the two-state solution, where Paleostine and Israel live side by side, in peace and security, towards achieving regional peace, security, and prosperity."

Germany’s Merz says Berlin holding off on any measures against Israel

[IsraelTimes] Speaking after a meeting of his security cabinet, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says that there was no decision to take any measures against Israel.

“For now, we want to await the foreign minister’s trip and the talks that will be held with the Israeli government in the coming days,” he says. “However, we reserve the right to take such steps.“

German FM Johann Wadephul is slated to be in Israel on Thursday.

Detained Gaza flotilla activists launch hunger strike — legal aid group
[IsraelTimes] More than a dozen activists being held by Israel after their aid boat was intercepted en route to Gaza have launched a hunger strike to protest their detention, according to a local NGO assisting them.
They can stand losing weight — this is a good thing.
At least five of the 21 passengers of the Freedom Flotilla vessel Handala have agreed to be summarily deported after the boat was stopped and boarded by the Israeli navy while attempting to break a military blockade of the war-ravaged Palestinian territory.

The legal aid group Adalah says that on Monday afternoon, “hearings concluded at Givon Prison, concerning the continued detention of the 14 volunteers who… refused to consent to an expedited deportation process.”

“During the hearings, the volunteers stressed that their mission was humanitarian — motivated by the need to act against Israel’s illegal siege and the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,” the group says in a statement.

One US activist reported “severe physical violence by Israeli forces,” while others described being held in poor conditions, Adalah says.

“The activists told the tribunal that they remain on an open hunger strike in protest of their unlawful detention,” it adds.

It later says the tribunal “upheld the continued detention of the 14 volunteers.”

Israel has been treating their cases as immigration violations, which Adalah maintains is illegal, saying they were brought into the country against their will from international waters.

The Handala’s 21 passengers hailed from 10 countries, and included two French lawmakers and a pair of Al Jazeera journalists.

Adalah says at least one of the lawmakers, the two journalists and two other passengers are already on their way out of the country.

Two passengers who were Israeli-American dual nationals were released after being interrogated, according to the organization.

PM said to propose Israel begin annexing parts of Gaza if Hamas again rejects truce deal
Good.
[IsraelTimes] Israel will begin annexing parts of the Gaza Strip if Hamas again rejects efforts by mediators to broker a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, according to the Maariv daily, which says Jerusalem will give the negotiations another chance.

The unsourced report says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented the proposal while meeting with a small group of ministers, who decided to establish a special entity for administering annexed areas.

A separate report in the Haaretz newspaper says Netanyahu presented the plan as part of efforts to keep Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich from pulling his far-right Religious Zionism party out of the government.

#1  Wasn't that the whole point in the first place?
Annex the West Bank too. Relocate the populations to a safe place far away where they can't harm Israelis. Anyone know a nation of immigrants that's out of missile range?

Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya, who looks fatter than ever, believes that “continuing negotiations has no point while Gazans face genocide, starvation, and siege.”
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
IMHO, that statement doesn't make bit of sense. If they were a normal government of a normal state, like they presumably want, and their citizenry was suffering facing genocide, starvation, and siege, they’d be taking steps to stop the genocide, alleviate the starvation, and raise the siege. Since they're the type of organization that takes hostages, whose top leaders live elsewhere, namely out of the line of fire, and negotiate with forked tongue, I guess they won't.

New aid convoy enters Druze-majority Sweida province in south Syria
[IsraelTimes] A new humanitarian aid convoy reached southern Syria’s Druze heartland today, official media reports, as the United Nations warns the humanitarian situation in Sweida province is critical after deadly violence.

Clashes in the Druze-majority Sweida province, which began on July 13 and ended with a ceasefire a week later, initially involved Druze fighters and Sunni Bedouin tribes, who have been at loggerheads for decades.

But government forces intervened on the side of the Bedouin, according to witnesses, experts and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor, which claimed the violence killed more than 1,400 people, mostly Druze, and accused government personnel of summarily executing more than 250 Druze civilians.

State television says today’s Syrian Red Crescent convoy is the third of its kind to reach the province, publishing images of trucks crossing into the region.

State news agency SANA says the 27-truck convoy “contains 200 tons of flour, 2,000 shelter kits, 1,000 food baskets” as well as medical and other food supplies. The effort is a cooperation between “international organizations, the Syrian government and the local community.”

Although the ceasefire has largely held, the UN’s humanitarian agency, OCHA, says that the humanitarian situation in Sweida province “remains critical amid ongoing instability and intermittent hostilities,” and that the violence had displaced at least 176,000 people.

Israel, which intervened with airstrikes aimed at assisting the Druze community amid the violence, also sent in aid supplies last week.
