And if America does not interfere, then this is enough for Russia.
Secondly, Moscow and Washington have other topics that could and even should be discussed at the level of leaders.
"Any meetings of top officials, as a rule, always cover the entire spectrum of relations between countries. And given that after the first face-to-face meetings of our diplomats, several working groups have started working, the results of their work will be discussed," Andrey Klintsevich, head of the Center for the Study of Military and Political Conflicts, explains to Regnum.

And if Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump reach a public agreement on at least one of the above issues, then the summit can already be called a success.

In the current front-line realities, when the enemy is increasingly losing territory and settlements, there is no particular reason for Russia to back down from its demands related to the recognition of Crimea and four regions as a legal part of the Russian Federation, the refusal to draw Ukraine into NATO and the deployment of NATO troops there, etc. A simple freezing of the front line does not ensure the achievement of the objectives of the SVO. This is what they will be talking about as long as the hostilities continue.
Putin's aide Ushakov reported today that the meeting place between Putin and Trump has already been agreed upon. They will be announced later. The date, it should be understood, is in the process of coordination. Ushakov said that the meeting would take place "in the next few days." The American mass media, with reference to the Trump administration, say that Trump would like to meet Putin directly next week. In this regard, Ushakov stated that Moscow considers the next week as a benchmark.

Also, Ushakov reported that in addition to the bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump, Witkoff during the negotiations in Moscow cast a hook on the topic of a tripartite meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelensky. But Moscow was not interested in this option.

From what I keep reading on this page, Putin's forces are finally gaining ground in Ukraine. That must make it very tempting for him to ignore Trump's threats and just keep going. I think Trump will have to offer Putin a rock solid guarantee that NATO will never enter Ukraine. But even a rock solid guarantee might not be enough to convince Putin to ever trust the West again.
