Mike Johnson: ‘No Real Rationale' for Federal Tax on Suppressors
[Breitbart] During a Sunday morning appearance on ABC News’s This Week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) defended Republican efforts to remove the $200 federal tax on suppressors, noting there is “no rationale” for such a tax.

On May 22, Breitbart News noted that the GOP-led House version of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill eliminates the tax and registration requirement on suppressors.

Johnson was asked about this push for deregulation, and told ABC, “We had the votes to do it. I think it was a long time overdue, but I think we have to protect the fundamental freedoms of the American people.”

He pointed out, “The Second Amendment is a critical freedom in the constitution and there’s no real rationale” for the tax on suppressors.

Johnson later added, “There’s no rationale, the government should not be making money on something that you have a fundamental, inalienable right to.”

#1  Be as rational as a tax on newspapers.

#2  How about, "If you tax something, you get less of it." Which goes against the 2nd amendment.

#3  A very quick search suggests the things cost between $300 and $800 or so, for which $200 is a very high tax. $25-50 seems a much more reasonable amount if government paperwork is involved, or whatever the normal sales tax is if the government need not be informed.

Bessent condemns Newsom's 'dangerous' threat to withhold $80B in federal taxes amid trans athlete controversy
[FixBusiness] Scott Bessent calls Democrat governor's plan to withhold federal taxes 'extremely reckless' amid transgender athlete dispute

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has accused California's Gov. Gavin Newsom of threatening to commit tax evasion after he threatened to stop paying the "over $80 BILLION" in taxes the state pays to the federal government.

Newsom's threat comes amid President Donald Trump's vow to impose large-scale fines on the state of California for allowing a biological male to compete in girls' sports and win multiple state titles.

"A Biological Male competed in California Girls State Finals, WINNING BIG, despite the fact that they were warned by me not to do so," Trump wrote on Truth Social last week. "As Governor Gavin Newscum fully understands, large scale fines will be imposed!"

In response to Trump’s threat, Newsom made one of his own.

"Californians pay the bills for the federal government," Newsom said on X. "We pay over $80 BILLION more in taxes than we get back. Maybe it’s time to cut that off, @realDonaldTrump."

If the California governor were to follow through with his threat, Bessent said in a Sunday post on X that it would constitute tax evasion.

Newsom’s plan would defraud American taxpayers while leaving California residents on the hook for any unpaid federal taxes, the treasury secretary wrote.

"I am certain most California businesses know that failing to pay taxes owed to the Treasury constitutes tax evasion and have no intention of following the dangerous path Governor @GavinNewsom is threatening," Bessent wrote. "I would warn state officials, including payroll managers, that federal law attaches personal liability to an attempt to evade or defeat tax."

"Instead of committing criminal tax evasion, Governor Newsom should consider a tax plan for California that follows the Trump Tax Cuts model and reduces the onerous state tax burden to allow families to keep more of their hard-earned money," he continued, calling Newsom’s plan "extremely reckless."

Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.

Trump's post targeting California's stance on trans athletes came days after biological male AB Hernandez competed in the state competition, taking first place in the girls' high jump and triple jump, and second place in the long jump.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) amended its rules to accommodate trans athletes, allowing four finalist spots instead of three in the events that Hernandez competed in if Hernandez earns a medal. The temporary change granted the female athletes qualification and podium finishes they would have earned had a biological male not competed and placed in those events.

This resulted in Hernandez having to share podium spots with the female athletes who finished one spot behind Hernandez after the finals on Saturday.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a federal probe into California over potential Title IX violations regarding its policy allowing trans athletes in girls' sports. The state had already been under a Department of Education investigation over the issue since February.

#7  It takes 2/3rds of the House and Senate, then 3/4th of the states to pass a Constitutional Amendment. It only takes 2/3rds of the Senate to ratify a treaty. We could negotiate back most of coastal California back to Mexico from south of LA through the Bay by amending the The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Dem Rep. Raskin: Trump Should Be Impeached, Musk's Government Contracts Should Be Cancelled
[BREITBART] Representative Jamie Raskin
...hanky-headed Congressman-for-life from Maryland's 8th congressional district since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the Maryland State Senate from 2007 to 2016. Raskin co-chairs the Congressional Freethought Caucus, which pushes (and defines) reason and science. In 2017 the newly-elected Raskin and several other members of the House objected to the certification of the 2016 presidential election because of (muh!) Russia. He was the lead impeachment manager for the second impeachment of President Donald Trump. Raskin was one of seven Democrats appointed to pack the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Before his election to Congress he was just another lefty law professor....
(D-MD) said Friday on CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
's ''The Agenda'' that Elon Musk's government contracts should be cancelled and President Donald Trump
...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party...
should be impeached.''

Host Kasie Hunt said, ''Elon Musk, do you think that this back and forth with the president has made it more or less likely the president's agenda will get passed? And should Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
be embracing Elon Musk right now?''

Raskin said, ''So first of all, the wretched, ugly, gargantuan bill that they're trying to drive through, Congress will throw 14 million Americans off of their Medicaid and drive millions of Americans off of their SNAP benefits, which is nutrition, which is food for people. Elon Musk called it a disgusting abomination because of the fact that it also will add two and a half to $3 trillion to the national debt, and he's right about that. According to the Congressional Budget Office, it's going to be somewhere in that neighborhood. I think it's all to the good that he is forcing members to really focus on what they're voting on here.''

He added, ''As for the for tit for tat between Trump and Musk, all I can say is one says the other guy should be impeached, the other says the other guy's billions of dollars of government contracts should be suspended and I think I agree with both of them.''

Hunt said, ''You heard it here first, Donald Trump should be impeached.''

'Arrest her!' Rep. Jayapal proudly boasts she's leading 'shadow hearings' to undermine POTUS
[BIZPACREVIEW] Far-left Rep. Pramila Jayapal has begun proudly hosting ''shadow hearings'' about the deportation of alleged illegal alien gang bangers.

Titled ''Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump's Lawless Third Country Disappearances,'' the first hearing was held Friday:

''Since taking office in January, President Trump has shown nothing but utter contempt for the Constitution,'' Jayapal said in a statement. ''He has ignored and decimated the traditional role of Congress and defied and defamed the courts, doing untold damage to our democracy.''

''He has attacked the rights of all people, starting with and especially immigrants colonists. In his obsession to deport as many immigrants colonists—lawful and undocumented—as he can, he has violated multiple constitutional rights,'' she added.

Her proud touting of these shadow hearings prompted massive blowback from the right on social media, with ''All That Remains'' singer Phil Labonte tweeting, ''arrest her and her conspirators.''

Trump Can Remove Public Broadcasting Board Members, Judge Rules
[DEADLINE] A federal judge on Sunday declined to issue an order to prohibit Donald Trump
...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party...
from removing three board members of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as the administration seeks to zero out funding for public media stations, PBS and NPR.

U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss wrote that the CPB had failed to meet the threshold to issue a preliminary injunction to halt Trump's effort to remove Sony's Tom Rothman, as well as Laura Ross and Diane Kaplan.

But Moss' ruling does not mean that Trump will be able to wrest control of the board. The judge also cautioned that Trump could not unilaterally appoint their replacements, and noted that the corporation had recently changed its bylaws that restricts the president's actions.

#3  Get the government out of broadcasting and controlling media including by funding it or NGOs that fund it.

I understand that sentiment. But what if PBS and NPR could be turned into a conservative, MAGA if you will, operation? An alternative to ABCCBSNBCCNNFOX? Yeah, I put FOX in there with the rest of them.

But it wouldn't even have to be conservative, just honest and even handed.

#4  Then the Democrats couldn't bitch about how they appropriated funds for public broadcasting so Trump is obligated to give 'em the money. Go ahead and give 'em the money but make sure they tell the truth and stop the Democrat Party propaganda.
