Third Chinese scientist charged with smuggling illegal biological pathogen into US from Wuhan
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A third Chinese scientist has been charged with smuggling biological materials into the United States after a University of Michigan student and her boyfriend were caught last week.

Chengxuan Han was arrested on Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan airport and charged with smuggling goods into the US.

Police allege Han sent four packages which 'contained biological material related to round worms' from China to the US.

The packages were sent between September 2024 and March 2025 and addressed to people linked to the laboratory at the University of Michigan.

Han initially denied sending the packages at all, according to court documents. She later insisted they contained plastic cups, rather than petri dishes.

According to the documents, she ultimately admitted sending the samples, which she had collected during her research as a Ph.D. student in Wuhan, China.

The charges come less than a week after University of Michigan postdoctoral fellow Yunqing Jian, 33, was charged alongside Zunyong Liu, 34, for attempting to smuggle a weapon of 'agroterrorism' into the United States in a sinister plot allegedly tied to the Chinese Communist Party.

Liu arrived in the United States from China in July 2024 carrying four small baggies of Fusarium graminearum - a product responsible for causing billions of dollars worth of damage to livestock, wheat, barley, maize and rice globally each year.

All three of the accused have links to the same university laboratory.

Microsoft pulls major tech conference from Seattle over crime, drug use, homelessness
Oops? So woke they are losing big money
[PM] “The customers cited the general uncleanliness of the street scene, visibility of individuals engaging in drug use, and unhoused individuals, including the recurring tent in the Arch Tunnel.”

Seattle has lost one of its most high-profile tech events due to mounting concerns over public safety and deteriorating conditions in the city’s downtown core. Microsoft has confirmed that it will no longer host its annual Build conference in Seattle starting in 2026, citing issues related to rampant homelessness, visible drug use, and urban decay.

According to an internal email obtained by journalist Jonathan Choe of the Discovery Institute, Visit Seattle—the city’s official tourism and marketing organization—was informed that Microsoft will cancel its 2026 event and release all future holds for the conference in Seattle. The email, titled “DEFINITE BOOKING CANCELLATION NOTICE,” said the decision was heavily influenced by the experience of company leadership and attendees walking the downtown core between the Hyatt Regency and the Arch Building on 8th Street.

“The customers cited the general uncleanliness of the street scene, visibility of individuals engaging in drug use, and unhoused individuals, including the recurring tent in the Arch Tunnel,” the email stated. “Microsoft has previously addressed these concerns and Visit Seattle has been working actively with SPD, DSA [Downtown Seattle Association], the Care team, and others... Unfortunately for Build, it was a contributing factor to their final decision to move out of Seattle.”

Microsoft's Build conference has long served as a showcase of Seattle’s innovation and global tech prominence. It typically brings in thousands of developers and tech insiders from around the world and has been a signature event for the city’s economy. Its departure is a major blow to Seattle’s struggling tourism and convention business, especially as downtown continues to battle the aftermath of the pandemic, rising crime, and a homelessness crisis that city officials have so far failed to contain.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the move, saying, “Our plans for Build 2026 have changed, but our vision to empower builders and developers at a major event next year remains the same. We thank the city and the community for their support over the years.”

This year, attendees also had to contend with pro-Hamas activists attempting to enter the conference, protesting outside, and vandalizing the convention center. Several managed to disrupt the event itself.

Local restaurateur David Meinert posted about the cancellation on Facebook, citing complaints from conference attendees about open-air drug use, aggressive behavior, and tents crowding sidewalks. “Mayor Bruce Harrell’s downtown activation plan is not having the success he claims,” Meinert wrote. “I can tell you firsthand how poorly the massive spending on different city agencies is going, due to the inability for them to communicate and work together. It’s 100% about lack of leadership.”

Visit Seattle acknowledged the cancellation as a “huge loss for the city” and expressed disappointment that years of efforts to address the issues surrounding the convention core were ultimately not enough to retain one of the city's most influential corporate partners. Its departure highlights the growing unease among business leaders over the city’s trajectory and raises questions about whether other major events will follow Microsoft’s lead.

Last week, James Beard Award-winning chef Renee Erickson announced she was permanently closing two locations of her General Porpoise café and temporarily shutting down her signature Seattle steakhouse, Bateau, and neighboring Boat Bar later this month due to the increasing strain of operating costs, property crime, and labor shifts on the Seattle dining scene, which has yet to fully recover from the pandemic closures.

Earlier this year, Starbucks permanently closed stores in prime Seattle locations despite locations always being packed with customers, especially tourists. In 2022, the coffee giant’s former CEO and founder, Howard Schultz, told employees that Starbucks would be closing locations due to safety concerns, including 5 Seattle stores. He blamed elected leaders of the Democrat cities where the stores are closing, "at the local state and federal level, these governments... and leaders, mayors and governors, and city councils have advocated their responsibility in fighting crime & addressing mental illness."

Other businesses have fled the Emerald City, including large brands such as the Hard Rock Café, Target, and Nike, as well as some smaller, minority, and family-owned businesses. Amazon Go shuttered its downtown locations due to underperformance, and the city has begun drawing comparisons to San Francisco, which for years has seen businesses fleeing the downtown core.

Jewish groups pull out of San Diego Pride festival over anti-Israel singer’s performance
[IsraelTimes] Letter from participating organizations cites ‘serious safety concerns’ due to Kehlani’s ‘repeated amplification of violent antisemitic rhetoric’

All of the participating Jewish organizations in San Diego’s Pride festival this year have pulled out of the celebration over anti-Israel R&B singer Kehlani’s headline performance, citing "serious safety concerns."

On Friday, eight local Jewish groups and synagogues, including the Jewish Federation of San Diego and Anti-Defamation League of San Diego, announced that they would be withdrawing from the festival after its organizers said they would not cancel Kehlani’s headline performance despite concern from Jewish groups.

"In light of San Diego Pride’s decision to allow musical artist Kehlani to remain a headliner at this year’s Pride Festival despite Kehlani’s repeated amplification of violent mostly peaceful antisemitic rhetoric, all participating Jewish organizations and synagogues — many of which have marched with, volunteered for or supported Pride for years — will be withdrawing from the 2025 event due to serious safety concerns," the letter read.

Kehlani has been vocally outspoken of Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, and has been criticized for including the message "Long Live the Intifada," a reference to two Paleostinian uprisings, in a music video last June.

The previous month, she condemned other artists for staying silent on the conflict in a video on X, saying, "It’s f— Israel, it’s f— Zionism, and it’s also f— a lot of y’all too."

In the Jewish group’s announcement, they cited the violent mostly peaceful terror attacks in recent weeks in Boulder, Colorado, and Washington, DC, writing that the attacks underscore the "dangerous consequences of unchecked antisemitism in public spaces."

"Now more than ever, Pride should be a celebration of inclusion and solidarity, not a platform for divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
voices that incite hatred and violence," said Heidi Gantwerk, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of San Diego County, in a statement. "As we’ve seen in DC and Boulder, when antisemitism is ignored or tolerated, it fuels a culture that leads to violence. We cannot wait for tragedy to strike our own community — again — before we act."

The decision comes after a group of 33 Jewish organizations and synagogues signed a letter last month urging San Diego Pride to reconsider Kehlani’s headline performance.

"San Diego is known as ’America’s Finest City.’ The decision to invite Kehlani to perform at Pride is not in line with this spirit," the letter read. "A celebration of one group should never come at the expense of another. There is no pride in exclusion — and when any marginalized group feels unsafe, we all lose. San Diego has no room for hate."

In a statement shared with local television station CBS 8, the San Diego Pride board of directors defended the decision to keep Kehlani as the festival’s headliner.

"We respect our local Jewish community’s decision not to participate in San Diego Pride’s programming this year. Each member of our community must make their own decision about attending this year’s events, but we hope everyone will come out as a sign of solidarity for our queer community," the statement read.

It continued, "San Diego Pride does not endorse or adopt the political positions of any individual performer. Rather, we honor the value of artistic integrity, the importance of free expression, and the role that artists play in shaping culture, challenging systems, and amplifying voices while respecting each other’s differences."

The announcement from San Diego’s Jewish community is the latest in a string of recent criticism and cancellations Kehlani has faced at planned performances across the nation.

In April, Kehlani was disinvited from performing at Cornell University’s end-of-semester concert following outcry from pro-Israel students. In response to the cancellation, the singer posted an Instagram video in which she said, "I am not antisemitic, nor anti-Jew, I am anti-genocide."

Last month, another Kehlani performance scheduled as part of New York City’s pride celebrations was cancelled following pressure from New York City Mayor Eric Adams
...Hizonner da Mare of Noo Yawk. As a Manchurian candidate, Hizonner was all in favor of law and order and that kind of stuff. Once in office, a bunch of his friends found cushy jobs with the city, the windows kept getting broken, and Soros-funded DA Alvin Bragg remained right where he was. Most people comfort themselves with the thought that he's not Bill di Blasio but that's pretty small comfort with kids who actually go to school getting bumped off while standing in front of them. But he's a Dem, so the rubes will vote for him next election too, so he's what they deserve...
’ administration.

Last Friday, a new Pride music festival in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
, SoSF, announced in a now-unavailable Instagram post that Kehlani had withdrawn from the festival. A spokesperson for SoSF told the San Francisco Standard that the parting was an "amicable decision" and that Kehlani’s pro-Paleostinian stances did not influence the decision.

Kenya: protests rock Kakuma refugee camp amid US humanitarian aid cuts
[AFRICANEWS] Widespread demonstrations have rocked security in Kakuma refugee camp in north-western Kenya on Monday, with police firing live bullets at the protestors, according to local media.

The protests erupted over food and water shortages in the camp.

According to residents, conditions in the camp have deteriorated significantly, with many struggling to access basic necessities.

The shortages come as humanitarian aid in Kenya has been reduced following funding cuts from the US Agency for International Development, USAID.

The camp, which is one of the largest in the world, is home to around 200 000 refugees and asylum seekers, according to Amnesty International.

The camp mainly houses refugees from neighbouring South Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
, Æthiopia and Somalia.

Mama Kayembe, a Congolese refugee in Kakuma Refugee Camp said: "Since (Donald) Trump became (US) president, now Kenyans have shifted all the blame on him. Workers are not getting paid and it is blamed on Trump. No medication in hospital - it's Trump, now we have to pay for school fees and it's Trump, everything is Trump. We are tired of Trump."

Europe
Half of Somali delegation absconds during international labour summit in Geneva
[ShabelleMedia] More than half of a Somali government delegation attending the International Labour Conference in Geneva has reportedly absconded, sources familiar with the matter told Radio Shabelle, raising concerns about the credibility of the state and the integrity of its official representation abroad.

The 23-member delegation was led by Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohammed Aden. According to informed sources, at least 10 delegates quietly left their hotels and disappeared, allegedly seeking asylum in various European countries instead of returning to Somalia.

The sources claim the absconding delegates had each paid thousands of dollars to secure European visas in advance. They were included in the official delegation list to obtain legitimate travel documentation under the guise of participating in the conference.

The incident has stirred outrage among many Somalis, who view it as a severe blow to the image of the Somali state on the international stage. Political analysts say the episode reflects a broader failure in vetting and accountability mechanisms within the government.

"This is not an isolated case," one source told Radio Shabelle. "Similar incidents have occurred in the past, where delegates sent to international forums vanished and never returned, often seeking refugee status."

Despite repeated cases, the Somali government has yet to implement strict preventive measures to curb such incidents, raising further criticism over its commitment to institutional reform and diplomatic credibility.

Observers say the latest scandal is likely to intensify calls for Somalia to overhaul its process for selecting and monitoring foreign delegations, with demands for greater scrutiny and adherence to professional standards aligned with national interests.

Government Corruption
On the Los Angeles Riots
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the Telegram channel of @sex_drugs_kahlo

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin is in italics.

[ColonelCassad] Los Angeles is on fire: what's going on?

It was not for nothing that we talked about a short outbreak of protest in San Diego last week, when locals chased away immigration agents shouting "Shame".

THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON IN LOS ANGELES.
They write that it all started when immigration agents issued search warrants on Friday at several properties of one of the entrepreneurs who was issuing fictitious documents for some workers. At the same time, arrests of these workers began, and then - in several more stores that were already selling clothes and donuts.

At the same time, demonstrators gathered at the detention center where illegal immigrants were placed, challenging the actions of the federal authorities. On Saturday, they were here again shouting and demanding that immigration services be removed from the city and all those arrested be released. Then, they allegedly began throwing rocks at the police, for which they were met with flashbangs, baton blows, and tear gas.

On Saturday evening, Donald Trump ordered the deployment of at least 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles County “for 60 days or such other period as the Department of Defense deems appropriate.” He also wrote on social media that demonstrators are now prohibited from wearing masks at protests. According to local media, most of the mobilized soldiers are from the California National Guard.

In addition, the Pentagon promised to mobilize “active duty Marines” from Camp Pendleton in San Diego County if violence continues.

About 300 National Guard troops have been deployed to three separate locations in the Greater Los Angeles area to provide security and protect federal property and personnel.

And what about local authorities?

This is the first case in modern American history when the feds launched a mobilization without coordinating it with the governor of the state, which has already provoked hysteria from the head of California Gavin Newsom, and along with him the mayor of Los Angeles, who are demanding that the feds be removed from the city. Donald Trump has already responded to this by saying that he called Newsom in advance and offered to deal with the unrest on his own, otherwise he would bring in the troops. Well, he did, when the governor made a fool of himself.

And what about the Democratic Party?

It is behaving as usual and has almost completely mobilized to protect the demonstrators, calling all their actions - including setting fire to robotaxis and electric cars, attacks on law enforcement - a predominantly peaceful protest. The specialized media have mobilized, as if on order, and are writing with all their might about who these villains, immigration agents, are, how they mock illegal immigrants and violate basic human rights.

Are these spontaneous protests?

Yeah, they ran away. Where have you seen spontaneous protests with ready-made designer posters, prepared clean Mexican flags, organized delivery of bricks and cobblestones to the escalation sites, as well as negotiations via encrypted messenger? Plus members of local unions flitting back and forth.

Everything was, in my opinion, organized in advance, and with an eye to worsening relations between the White House and Mexico, which have historically been held together by snot and blackmail, and after trade sanctions and Trump's weekly threats, they left much to be desired.

I believe that for the Democrats, the topic of migrant protests could become as lucrative before the 2026 midterm elections as the BLM "George Floyd" protests were before the 2020 presidential elections. By the way, as soon as Biden was brought into the White House, the faucet of protests was quickly turned off.

In the case of migrants in the southwest of the United States, now is the time to stir things up. It is worth noting that 5 years ago, the same hysteria was in the democratic press about "Trump's filtration camps for migrants." In general, it is obvious that the objectively existing discontent of migrants with the processes of deportation to countries robbed by American imperialism will be used by opponents of the Trumpists in the domestic politics of the United States. At the same time, since this process seems manageable, one can hardly expect the "collapse of the United States" and the "secession of California." At least for now.

But the NKR will certainly be free! Someday...

P.S. The funniest video during the entire protest period is a broadcast on CNN, where some "democratic expert" broadcasts about a "peaceful protest" right against the background of a video of burning cars.
Just like in Ukraine in 2014 about a "peaceful Maidan."

Taxpayer-Funded Riots: Here's What We Found When We Followed the Money in Los Angeles
[RedState] When ICE conducted raids Friday morning at multiple locations in downtown Los Angeles, violent protesters impeded their work at both the staging location at a Home Depot in Paramount and outside the targeted business in downtown. Things might have stayed somewhat contained but for the involvement of two powerful and high-profile leftist community "leaders."

One of those people, SEIU California President David Huerta, was arrested for interfering with federal officers after he got in the way of ICE officers. After his arrest, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Rep. Gil Cisneros, and other Democrat elected officials decried the action.

Then Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) held a press conference calling for broad demonstrations against ICE, and tensions and violence escalated from there.

Hundreds of "protesters" turned into thousands of rioters before long, complete with matching t-shirts and professionally printed signs, signaling the involvement of organizations with some degree of funding behind them.

As Data Republican found, CHIRLA and the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSLWEB) are two of the NGOs implicated in this ongoing riot.

CHIRLA and their friends at the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) are well-funded, and well-connected, and have been astroturfing protests against Donald Trump and his belief in upholding our country’s immigration laws for a decade now. I first encountered them outside the Luxe Hotel on July 10, 2015, when they organized a protest against Donald Trump when he spoke to the conservative Friends of Abe group just after announcing his candidacy. But guess whose YouTube channel has video from the event?

Yep, the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Attorney Laura Powell looked into CHIRLA's funding and made some startling findings. Yes, there's government money going into the org; that's not startling. What is startling is the amount. According to a financial audit submitted to the State of California, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, CHIRLA took in $34 million from various government contracts, and 96 percent of the government funding was from the State of California. That amount is nearly three times the prior year's government contract total. CHIRLA's total revenue for the year ending June 30, 2023, was $45 million, meaning that 75.5 percent of its revenue came from government contracts.

Agencies contributing to CHIRLA’s funding during this period included the California Department of Social Services, the California Arts Council, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Yes, the Department of Homeland Security. Mayor Bass secured that contract for CHIRLA from her old pal (and Beverly Hills High School grad) Alejandro Mayorkas. Powell wrote:

For her part, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has defiantly opposed federal immigration enforcement in the city, stating on social media Friday, “We will not stand for this” and “No vamos a permitir estas acciones,” (“We are not going to permit these actions”). She added that her office would collaborate with community-based organizations that serve immigrants. She has a long relationship with CHIRLA and bragged last year about obtaining federal funding for CHIRLA’s programs. That grant is part of a broader stream of public dollars that the organization receives from government sources.

In announcing that $450,000 federal grant, on August 30, 2024, Bass said:

“The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, Clínica Romero, and the Central American Resource Center have been on the frontlines providing assistance to new immigrant arrivals in our city. I want to thank Secretary Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security for their partnership and for providing these organizations in the L.A. region with support to provide life-saving assistance.”

(There was $100,000 remaining on the grant when Donald Trump again took office. DHS froze the funding, CHIRLA sued, then DHS canceled the contract and the lawsuit was dropped.)

What were they doing with that money? Well, their efforts are centered in their newly-opened "Immigrant Welcome and Empowerment Center" in downtown Los Angeles, which Bass toured in May 2024.

According to their website, their core leadership development activities are:

  • Wise Up! (youth leadership development program mentoring high school students in 15 Los Angeles schools).

  • California Dream Network (mobilize college students in 30 California colleges and universities around immigration reform; boasts 5,000 veteran leaders).

  • Contamos Contigo Census Campaign

  • Disaster Assistance for Immigrants (to distribute COVID-19 aid)

  • Organizing low-wage workers, including day laborers, street vendors, and domestic workers who do not reap the benefits of labor laws.

  • LA Raids Rapid Response Network (focuses on advocacy, direct action to shut down detention centers, and connecting immigrants facing detention and deportation to legal representation).

Basically, our taxpayer dollars are going to train high school and college students in how to break immigration law and become Marxist agitators, to ensure illegal aliens are counted in the U.S. Census, to organize illegal aliens already in the country, and to fund their legal representation against deportation.

And that's just in their leadership development section. They also have a filmmaking section, an affiliate organization in Mexico, the CHIRLA Action Fund (through which they can endorse political candidates), and more.

Powell concludes her X post by saying:

"To sum up how this works: Your tax dollars fund an organization that organizes efforts to directly interfere with the federal government’s lawful exercise of authority. Then, through its lobbying arm, that organization helps get Democrats elected to office, who then repay the favor by ensuring increased funding."

Case in point: Karen Bass.

You can read CHIRLA Action Fund's 2024 voter guide here; there won't be any surprises.

This is just the beginning of our investigation into CHIRLA and PSL's involvement in the ongoing riots; we'll publish those results as we go.

Home Front: WoT
Handing Out the Cobblestones: Who's Behind the Migrants Who Destroyed Los Angeles
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Malek Dudakov

[REGNUM] The first major riots of Donald Trump's second term have begun in the United States. Democrats have long been looking for a reason to launch a major street protest campaign against the new government.

First, the Democrats brought out fired government employees to rallies in Washington. Then, in early 2025, a series of attacks on Tesla showrooms rolled out. However, in the end, it was the migration factor that triggered public unrest.

Immediately after the inauguration, Trump's team ordered the US immigration service to begin mass deportations of illegal immigrants. They even appointed a special "czar" - a person in charge of resolving the migration crisis with special powers.

In major American cities, there were demonstration raids to capture migrants, mostly with a criminal past.

However, overall the number of deportations remains low. In the first four months of Trump's presidency, only about 50,000 to 70,000 illegal immigrants have been expelled from the country.

During his campaign, the current president promised to deport millions of migrants annually, but in reality the rate of deportation is even lower than it was, for example, during Barack Obama's first term.

The lack of federal agents and a sufficient number of deportation centers, as well as the lack of cooperation with the authorities of democratic states and cities in America, are having an effect.

The latter openly sabotage Trump's policies and prohibit local law enforcement from helping to arrest migrants. In addition, it is often difficult to convince other countries to accept flights with their migrants.

Perhaps the most significant consequence of the immigration crackdown so far is that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S. border has plummeted, falling by nearly 90% to its lowest level in six decades.

The show raids have scared many potential migrants, who are now afraid to illegally cross the borders of the United States. However, this clearly does not satisfy the administration. Therefore, recently the White House has been demanding that immigration raids be intensified by any means.

The result was protests in Los Angeles that turned into major riots, mostly in immigrant neighborhoods like Paramount, where about 90 percent of the population is Latino, many of whom are immigrants.

The participants in the pogroms threw cobblestones at the police and even tried to storm the building of the migration service, where the arrested illegal immigrants were being held.

By pure chance, the pallets with the blocks that were cut into cobblestones were previously located near the federal institution.

As per tradition, police cars were set on fire, and additional targets were electric robotaxis, whose batteries burn for a very long time. Californian high-tech could not withstand the collision with harsh reality.

The Trump administration called the events a foreign invasion and occupation of Los Angeles, as protesters actively waved the flags of their home countries - Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras - during the riots.

For the first time since 1965, the White House has deployed the National Guard to suppress unrest without the approval of local authorities. Moreover, they are threatening to send regular troops, the Marines, which is an unprecedented event for the United States.

Republicans have obviously learned from the bitter experience of the BLM pogroms in the summer of 2020, which caught them off guard. Then, amid political paralysis in Washington, the pogroms continued for many months and covered all major US cities.

Now the White House intends to respond very harshly right away in order to try to nip the budding street riot in the bud.

Los Angeles has already experienced a period of military-police operation to combat pogroms in its history. This happened back in 1992, when African-American areas of the city rebelled over the scandal of the police killing of black Rodney King.

However, back then, local authorities suppressed the riots in cooperation with the feds. Now, Californian Democrats have simply withdrawn. They only criticize Trump's actions, but not the participants in the riots.

The Democratic Party has once again turned on political gaslighting. It is trying to convince the American public that the protests are supposedly mostly peaceful.

State Governor Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris, who still has political ambitions, are making such statements. They fully convey the playbook of 2020, when the same was said about the BLM pogroms.

Overall, there are many similarities between the events of five years ago and what is happening now. In both cases, the protests seem to have been pre-organized. All sorts of liberal NGOs and human rights organizations had a hand in them.

Now, for example, this is being done by the “Coalition for the Human Rights of Migrant Workers,” which received government funding during the Joe Biden era. Back then, it helped illegal immigrants cross the southern border of the United States and stay in America. Now the organization is mobilizing the migrants it brought to protest.

The potential for long-term unrest is real, because during Biden's term in office, according to various estimates, five to seven million illegal immigrants entered the United States. This is a real army, part of which can be used for illegal actions.

California alone is home to two to three million illegal immigrants, many of whom have no sympathy for their new homeland and work in tandem with ethnic criminals and drug cartels.

Moreover, supporters of terrorist movements were also noticed among the illegals who entered through wide-open borders. Some of them have already recently “distinguished themselves” during the pro-Palestinian protests taking place in the US. In the future, they may well take more radical actions than the current clashes with the police or the burning of cars.

Democrats hope to use the current situation to derail Trump's reforms and undermine his presidency. But California's prolonged chaos poses political risks for them, too.

The same Newsom or Harris will subsequently have to answer for everything that happened in their home state. Especially since the conflict with Trump could lead to the White House simply cutting off federal grants to California. And we are talking about 150 billion dollars annually.

Without federal aid, it will be impossible to rebuild Los Angeles after the recent fires and current riots, or to complete the high-speed rail to San Francisco, or to provide generous social assistance to the population.

Even with sky-high taxes, California can't make ends meet: This year, the state's budget deficit will be tens of billions of dollars.

Trump's team has adopted the slogan of "liberating" California and Los Angeles. On the one hand, from migrant pogromists, on the other - from the Democrats in power. So the confrontation between the federal center and the main liberal state of America in the context of the current pogroms will only intensify, the only question is who will lose their nerve first.

For the White House, this means switching the focus of attention from the external contour to the internal one. Now there is a convenient pretext for the promised withdrawal of some troops from Europe. They can be used against migrants and to fight cartels on the southern border of the United States.

It's certainly more popular with the Republican electorate than endless overseas wars.

Pakistan locked 20 Indian jets but chose to down only six: Bilawal
[GEO.TV] Pakistain has called on the world powers to intervene in resolving key issues with arch-rival India amid ongoing tensions following a conflict last month.

The call was made by former foreign minister and Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during his visit to London, where he held several high-profile meetings.

Bilawal is leading a delegation to present the Pak perspective on the recent conflict with India to the world and counter New Delhi's unproven allegations. As part of its global outreach, the team has visited the United States, is currently in London, and will also head to Brussels.

The delegation comprises former foreign ministers Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Hina Rabbani Khar and Khurram Dastgir; Senators Sherry Rehman, Musadik Malik, Faisal Subzwari and Bushra Anjum Butt; along with senior envoys Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tehmina Janjua.

Bilawal Bhutto said, speaking to Pak media in London: ''We had the upper hand [during the conflict]. Despite that upper hand, we agreed to the ceasefire on the condition that there would be further dialogue in the future on all friction points at a neutral location,'' Bilawal told news hounds in London. When asked whether he thought that the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
dispute would soon be resolved after the US mediated the ceasefire, Bilawal expressed the hope that ''moving forward, Trump or his government will keep its promise'' as Pakistain's defence position was better than India's during the conflict.

International-UN-NGOs
IAEA chief says information stolen by Iran refers to Israeli nuclear research site
[IsraelTimes] In first outside confirmation of Tehran’s claims to have obtained vast trove of Israeli intelligence, Grossi says documents ‘seem to refer’ to Soreq nuclear research facility

The head of the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency said Monday that the information Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
claimed it seized regarding Israel’s nuclear program "seems to refer" to the country’s Soreq Nuclear Research Center, the first acknowledgment outside of Tehran of the theft.

The Prime Minister’s Office had no immediate response to the remarks by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, who spoke during a news conference in Vienna.

The alleged theft comes at a time of renewed tensions over Iran’s nuclear program, which enriches uranium a short, technical step away from weapons-grade levels and looks poised to reject a US proposal over a possible deal on its atomic program.

"We have seen some reports in the press. We haven’t had any official communication about this," Grossi told news hounds. "In any case, this seems to refer to Soreq, which is a research facility which we inspect by the way. We don’t inspect other strategic parts of the program, but this part of the program we do inspect."

He did not elaborate on where he received his information, though the IAEA maintains a confidential reporting system for nations to report security incidents involving their nuclear programs.

Soreq, located 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Tel Aviv, is a national laboratory for nuclear science established in Israel in 1958, engaged in nuclear science, radiation safety and applied physics.

The IAEA has so-called item-specific safeguards agreements with Israel, Pakistain and India, all countries that are not party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Under Israel’s agreement, the IAEA monitors Soreq but has no access to Israel’s nuclear facility at Dimona, believed to provide the fuel for the country’s undeclared nuclear weapons program.

Over the weekend, Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
and later the country’s intelligence minister claimed without offering evidence that Tehran seized an "important treasury" of information regarding Israel’s nuclear program.

Israel, whose undeclared atomic weapons program makes it the only country in the Mideast with nuclear bombs, has not acknowledged any such Iranian operation targeting it.

According to Tasnim, a semi-official Iranian media outlet closely affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the intelligence was gathered and transferred by Roy Mizrahi and Almog Atias, two Israelis arrested by Israeli police in May on suspicion of collecting intelligence on behalf of Iran.

Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib claimed thousands of pages of documents had been obtained and would be made public soon. Among them were documents related to the US, Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and other countries, which, he claimed, had been obtained through "infiltration" and "access to the sources."

He did not elaborate on the methods used. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
Khatib, a Shiite holy man, was sanctioned by the US Treasury in 2022 over directing "cyber espionage and ransomware attacks in support of Iran’s political goals."

For Iran, the claim may be designed to show the public that the theocracy was able to respond to a 2018 Israeli operation that spirited out what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a "half ton" of documents related to Iran’s program.

That Israeli announcement came just before US President Donald Trump
...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried....
, in his first term, unilaterally withdrew America from Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, which greatly limited its program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

This week, Western nations are expected to go before the IAEA’s Board of Governors with a proposal to find Iran in noncompliance with the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
’ nuclear watchdog. It could be the first time in decades, and likely would kick the issue to the UN Security Council.

That could see one of the Western countries involved in the 2015 nuclear deal invoke the so-called snapback of UN sanctions on the Islamic Theocratic Republic. The authority to restore those sanctions by the complaint of any member of the original 2015 nuclear deal expires in October, putting the West on a clock to exert pressure on Tehran over its program before losing that power.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
After Action Report: Troops sought to rule out threats before deadly blast killed 4 in Khan Younis – IDF probe
[IsraelTimes] Army investigation finds troops called bomb squad after spotting suspicious findings in 2nd floor of building, which was not struck because it was needed for operations in area

The Israel Defense Forces on Monday evening released the results of a preliminary investigation into the deaths of four troops in a kaboom at a booby-trapped building in southern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
’s Khan Younis last week.

The explosion and subsequent building collapse on Friday morning killed Sgt. Maj. (res.) Chen Gross, Staff Sgt. Yoav Raver, Sgt. First Class Tom Rotstein and Staff Sgt. Uri Yhonatan Cohen, and maimed five other soldiers.

The probe found that the soldiers carried out numerous steps to rule out threats before entering the building, and upon noticing a suspicious finding, they alerted a bomb disposal squad.

According to the IDF’s investigation, several days before the incident, troops operating in the area in Khan Younis used "a variety of intelligence means to scan the buildings ahead of future activity."

After the examination, the military suspected that several buildings were booby-trapped.

Still, IDF officials, during an assessment before the incident, decided that some of the buildings in the area would need to be used for the army’s planned activity. The IDF often uses buildings in Gaza as makeshift command centers during its operations against Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
Two of the buildings were defined as likely booby-trapped, and their "benefit" for the activity was low, and the risk was unnecessary; therefore, they were bombed from the air and destroyed, the probe found.

Next to a third building, the IDF located what it suspected was an bomb, but due to the "operational need and the building being essential" for operations in the area, it was decided to try and disarm the suspected bomb.

The IDF began a series of actions to rule out or neutralize the suspected bomb before sending troops into the area. The actions involved sending a drone into the building and scanning for the suspected explosive.

The drone footage was reviewed by the commander of the force operating in the area, and the military came to the conclusion that it was not an bomb, and there were no suspicious indications that the building was booby-trapped.

The troops also opened fire on the building’s two floors before approaching the area. Gunfire was also directed against the building a day prior by combat engineers.

Right before the troops entered the building, the soldiers hurled an bomb into the first floor, in a last attempt to try and set off any possible booby traps.

The first floor of the two-story building was scanned by the forces and found to be clear of any possible explosives.

The troops then reached the second floor and spotted suspicious findings. The troops called for the bomb disposal squad, and the commander of the force made the rest of the troops step back, while staying with his signals soldier on the staircase.

Moments later, the bomb exploded against the forces, killing four and wounding five.

The IDF investigation has so far been unable to determine how the explosive was activated or what type of bomb was used.

The military said that the troops "acted professionally in a high-risk combat zone, and did the best they could to rule out all threats."

The publication of the investigation came after the right-wing Channel 14 channel claimed that the building was not targeted in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
because of an order given by the army’s top lawyer.

Channel 14 claimed that the IDF had sent troops into the building rather than targeting it in an airstrike because Military Advocate General Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi had ostensibly changed army protocol to prohibit striking the structure as doing so would result in "high collateral damage."

In an unusual move, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir issued a statement on Sunday night rejecting the "false, repeated, and baseless attacks regarding the conduct of the Military Advocate General."

Israel launched its war in Gaza following the October 7, 2023, Hamas assault on southern Israel that killed some 1,200 people and saw another 251 taken hostage. Terror groups in Gaza continue to hold 55 hostages, including the bodies of at least 33 confirmed dead by the IDF, and 20 who are believed to be alive. There are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said.

Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands at 429. The toll includes two coppers and three Defense Ministry civilian contractors.

Newly released abduction video shows hostage Matan Angrest manhandled by Gazans
Confirming that Hamas is evil.
[IsraelTimes] Report says soldier was electrocuted during interrogations, can no longer move some fingers; father says some info on son’s condition wasn’t given to panel deciding who gets released

In a full video of his abduction aired Monday, hostage soldier Matan Angrest can be seen maimed and shirtless, being manhandled by several Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
button men before being dropped to a crowd from the top of a tank during the October 7, 2023, onslaught.

Angrest’s family allowed media outlets to air the full video of the kidnapping by Hamas gunnies to raise pressure on the government to sign a deal for his release. The 21-year-old was taken from a tank at the Nahal Oz military base during the battle there.

In April, Channel 12 news published a shorter version of the same clip and several still images from the video, as well as his subsequent interrogation in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Angrest’s serious medical condition was also detailed by Channel 12 on Monday, citing evidence received by the family and a medical analysis of the information. According to some reported medical opinions, his poor health puts him at risk of death.

The report said Angrest has been subjected to torture with car batteries and electric paddles until losing consciousness. He suffers from chronic asthma attacks, particularly after the violent mostly peaceful interrogations.

He has suffered severe injuries to his hands, including severe burns to the nerves and untreated infections. As such, he can no longer move some of his fingers, the report said.

"I just ask, why do we deserve this? Why have they [the government] left Matan in his situation, while knowing his difficult situation?" Anat Angrest, Matan’s mother, told Channel 12 shortly after the video was released, adding that the family continues to receive information about his state in captivity.

"What else needs to happen for the government to wake up and fight for all the hostages, and for them to release [hostage] soldiers?" she asked.

Both Anat and Matan’s father, Hagai, said their son was in "immediate life-threatening danger."

Hagai told Channel 12 that he believed some of the information collected by the Israeli intelligence apparatus on his son’s condition was not properly passed on to the prime minister and the committee that decides which hostages should be released under deals.

"This is the big oversight that kept Matan in captivity," Hagai said. "After our meeting with the prime minister, we realized he didn’t know that Matan was injured."

He said he was sure the government would have demanded Angrest’s release in the January ceasefire if the sharing of that information was more orderly, and vowed that any new information the family received would be shared "immediately" with the public.

Under the January agreement, Hamas released 30 hostages — 20 Israeli civilians, five soldiers, and five Thai nationals — and the bodies of eight slain Israeli captives during a ceasefire between January and March. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
no soldiers were freed under the deal.

Hamas issued a propaganda video of Angrest in March, less than a week after his family published the first photo of him in captivity, a still captured from a previous video received from the terror group.

‘Violent thugs’: Netanyahu denounces protesters who recently broke into Likud HQ
[IsraelTimes] PM accuses anti-government demonstrators of having ‘destroyed everything in their way’ during May 28 incident, though none have been charged with violent offenses

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday accused anti-government demonstrators who last month broke into the headquarters of his Likud party of acting like "violent mostly peaceful thugs."

"Violent protesters — thugs — broke into Metzudat Ze’ev and beat up innocent workers. They destroyed everything in their way," the prime minister said, referring to May 28 incident, when dozens of protesters chained themselves to the stair railings outside of Netanyahu’s office at Likud headquarters in Tel Aviv.

The demonstrators were marking 600 days since hostages held in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
The prime minister accused protestors of being "against democracy and the rule of law," adding that "we represent those values — and we do so with devotion. Even as we stand under assault from slander and deception across the media, we’re not fazed."

"An overwhelming majority of the nation stands firmly behind our heroic fighters... and reject those who through murderous Moslem rhetoric try to push us over the edge," he claimed during remarks at a memorial ceremony for the infamous sinking of the Altalena ship 77 years ago, at the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery in Tel Aviv.

Police arrested 61 of the protestors whom they accused of trespassing, disturbing public order, causing property damage, setting fires and fighting with officers.

The protesters insisted, however, that the demonstration had been non-violent mostly peaceful and accused police of using violence when removing them from the site, in particular with the use of mounted officers to corral demonstrators.

Footage of the demonstrations showed mounted coppers using their horses to charge at protesters.

All the protesters released the following day from detention and none have been charged with any violent mostly peaceful offenses.

Netanyahu’s comments Monday came days after the judiciary announced that a window in the Supreme Court building in Jerusalem was shattered during a right-wing protest on Thursday evening, either by an airsoft gun or a slingshot.

In response, Netanyahu issued a statement denouncing violence "of any kind," without directly referring to the shooting of the window during the protest, which was addressed by several government ministers, including Justice Minister Yariv Levin of Likud.

Detained flotilla activists brought to airport, with deportations to start in coming hours
Dateline 10 p.m. EDT Monday.
[IsraelTimes] Pro-Palestinian activists on a boat that sought to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza have arrived at Ben Gurion Airport, from where they will be deported to their home countries in the coming hours, the Foreign Ministry says, disparaging their initiative as a “selfie-yacht.”

“Those who refuse to sign deportation documents and leave Israel will be brought before a judicial authority, in accordance with Israeli law, to authorize their deportation,” the Foreign Ministry adds, noting that consuls from the activists’ home countries met them at the airport.

Thunberg’s Gaza-bound boat towed to Ashdod port; activists refuse to watch Oct. 7 footage

[IsraelTimes] The activist boat that tried to break Israel’s naval blockade of the Gaza Strip and was intercepted by the Israeli Navy early on Monday morning reached the Ashdod Port Monday evening.

The Foreign Ministry published photos of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and Brazilian activist Thiago Avila as they disembarked from the Madleen boat.

The detained activists, including Thunberg, would be handed over to police to be deported, and the small amount of aid they brought will be sent into Gaza, Israeli officials have said.

“The ‘Selfie Yacht’ docked at Ashdod Port a short while ago. The passengers are currently undergoing medical examinations to ensure they are in good health,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said earlier that he instructed the military to screen a video showing atrocities committed by the Hamas terror group on October 7, 2023, to the detained activists once they had safely arrived at the port. But, he said later, they refused to watch the footage.

The harrowing 43-minute video produced by the Israel Defense Forces spokesperson’s office shows uncensored, difficult-to-watch footage of people being massacred and bodies mutilated during the Hamas-led onslaught, much of it taken from terrorists’ bodycams.

“Greta [Thunberg] and her flotilla companions were taken into a room upon their arrival for a screening of the horror film of the October 7 massacre, and when they saw what it was about, they refused to continue watching,” Katz later said in a statement.

“The antisemitic flotilla members are turning a blind eye to the truth and have proven once again that they prefer the murderers to the murdered and continue to ignore the atrocities committed by Hamas against Jewish and Israeli women, adults, and children,” he added.

A New Balance Has Formed in the Intelligence War Between Iran and Israel
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] The “shadow war” between Iran and Israel is gaining momentum. Hardly a week goes by without the exposure of “spy scandals” involving Iranian and Israeli agents of influence. Debates about the triumphs and failures of the intelligence services of both countries arise and die down.

Meanwhile, as the confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv develops, it becomes increasingly clear that the sides are pursuing different tactics – but neither of them allows them to knock the opponent off their feet completely.

NOT JUST MARGINALIZED
At first glance, it seems that Iran is confidently leading in the "intelligence war." In the last month alone, Israeli intelligence services have arrested, according to various sources, between fifteen and forty agents working for Tehran.

Moreover, most of them fell into the hands of the General Security Service (Shabak) after the tasks assigned to them had been completed. The proactive response that the Israelis had long boasted about failed with the Iranian creature.

As time goes by, Iran has increasingly resorted to multiple “pinprick” tactics, provoking tensions and new fault lines in Israeli society.

It is noteworthy that Tehran has recently moved away from the tactics of recruiting agents “from below” and is dealing not only with marginalized groups, but also with various “vulnerable” categories of Israeli society.

For example, in May, Iranian intelligence services recruited an ultra-Orthodox Jew from Beit Shemesh (Jerusalem District) and used him to spread propaganda among conservative Jews in Israel.

Working with him also helped Iranians strengthen the protest background around the activities of the ultra-Orthodox party Degel HaTorah, which is trying to destroy the government and provoke early elections.

Attempts were also made to target family members of Israelis held in Gaza, representatives of religious minorities and community organizations.

On the other hand, quantity is not the same as quality. As a rule, the tasks that Tehran sets for its agents are quite simple.

For example, collecting data on public sentiment or posting propaganda posters. In view of this, the effect of exposing yet another “Iranian superspy” is gradually declining.

So, if in 2023 the Israeli media followed every step of the Iranian “shadow army”, devoting dozens of articles and reviews to espionage matters, then by mid-2025 such news is conveyed in almost one line.

Iranian agents, with rare exceptions, do not shine with originality and operate in a template manner.

As a result, the notorious “pin pricks” are becoming less and less painful for Tel Aviv, but they still do not go unnoticed.

DUAL-PURPOSE DOCTOR
Israeli special services manage to slap the Iranians in the face in return. Rare, but quite resonant.

Tel Aviv relies on “sleeper” agents who have been in the enemy’s control system for many years and are used only in the largest operations.

One example of this is the recently arrested Hezbollah functionary Mohammed Ayoub, who collaborated with the Israelis for more than seven years.

Ayoub worked for a long time in senior positions at the Ragheb Harb Hospital, where Hezbollah's top brass and invited Iranian military advisers were treated.

He then allegedly moved to the military sector, where he oversaw, among other things, the development of the UAV system. The latter indicates significant trust on the part of the leadership.

His move into the drone sector, however, did not stop him from maintaining and expanding the network of informants he had created in the hospital.

Thanks to Ayoub's work, Israeli security forces had comprehensive data on the health of most of the people they were interested in, and also had the ability to influence their well-being, for example, by substituting drugs.

Israeli media also includes Ayoub among the active participants in the famous "pager operation" of September 2024.

Allegedly, his agents had spoiled some of the medicines in advance, which provoked an increase in the number of fatalities among Hezbollah functionaries who suffered in the attack.

However, this turned out to be a simple newspaper hoax, as was later reported by both Lebanese counterintelligence and representatives of the Ministry of Health.

In any case, after the arrest of Ayoub and his accomplices from Ragheb Harb, the effectiveness of Israeli strikes on Hezbollah positions did not decrease much.

And this gave the Lebanese reason to believe that the Israeli spy network continues to operate and has other access to high offices.

A witch hunt has been launched within Hezbollah. The movement's counterintelligence agents are checking even the most loyal and staunchly authoritative, since neither Ayoub nor the other detained agents had previously aroused suspicion.

And while everyone is under surveillance, it is too dangerous to plan and carry out new offensive operations - there is a high risk that the details of the plan will reach the Israelis before the actual executors. And this seriously limits Iran's ability to use Hezbollah's military potential against Tel Aviv.

NEW BALANCE
Paradoxically, both the Israeli strategy of playing the long game and the Iranian bet on a sprint for secrets yield roughly the same result. Neither side has yet achieved an absolute advantage in the shadow war.

On the other hand, the strategic interest in continuing such a struggle remains. National intelligence services are creating a new parity between countries and probing the most sensitive pain points.

All this will be very useful to Tehran and Tel Aviv when the conflict in Gaza dies down and the countries return to their usual confrontation “at a distance.”

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Reports: US, Israel mulling end to UNIFIL's presence
[NAHARNET] U.S. officials are considering pulling American support from UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, in a bid to cut costs associated with its operations, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported Sunday evening, with US sources later confirming to The Times of Israel that the option was on the table.

Should the U.S. move ahead with its decision to pull support from the U.N. body, Israel will back the decision, Israel Hayom reported, both out of a desire to align itself with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and in light of the Israeli security establishment's ''cooperation with the Lebanese army since the ceasefire in November,'' the Times of Israel said.

According to Israel Hayom, the presence of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon has proven relatively effective in ''beating back the threat of Hezbollah'' and keeping the group from rearming itself, making ''redundant'' much of UNIFIL's operations in the region.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel that the U.S. has not yet made up its mind regarding its future support for UNIFIL, but that it wants to see major reforms, which could mean pulling support.

As UNIFIL's mandate is granted through a U.N. Security Council resolution each year, the U.S. could simply veto the next resolution, due to be put forward in August.

UNIFIL has been operating in southern Lebanon since 1978, when it was created to oversee the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the area following the end of Israel's first invasion of south Lebanon.

The U.N. peacekeeping force expanded its mission following the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, allowing peacekeepers to deploy along the Israeli border to help the Lebanese military extend its authority into the country's south for the first time in decades.

Aimed at ending the 2006 war, Resolution 1701 also called for a full cessation of Israeli-Hezbollah hostilities and the disarmament of Hezbollah. UNIFIL's mandate has been renewed annually ever since, although critics have questioned the efficacy of the force.

Following the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which put an end to more than a year of hostilities with Hezbollah, including two months of all-out war, the Lebanese Army moved into southern Lebanon to enforce the terms of the ceasefire, which itself is based on Resolution 1701.

The resolution requires Hezbollah to withdraw its fighters north of the Litani River — about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the border — and dismantle all military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told the Wall Street Journal last month that his government had achieved 80 percent of its objectives regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah and other militias in the country's south.

Iran to present counter-proposal to US in nuclear talks
