[ex] Marine Fighting for Life After Shot by Illegal Alien in Texas Bar
[Breitbart] Police in San Antonio arrested an illegal alien after he allegedly shot a former Marine working as a security guard in a bar. The Marine, working as a security guard in a bar, is fighting for his life after he attempted to disarm the illegal alien.

More than a month later, Jimmy Friesenhahn, a 44-year-old Marine combat veteran, is fighting for his life in a San Antonio hospital after being shot while working as a security guard at the El Patio Sports Bar early on the morning of May 4. Police arrested Wilmer Vladmir Ortega Ruiz, a 29-year-old man who entered the U.S. illegally, for the shooting, News4SA reported.

As the suspect entered the sports bar, Friesenhahn attempted to search him for weapons. The two men struggled after the Marine allegedly found a handgun in the man’s pocket.

During the struggle, police say Ortega Ruiz shot Friesenhahn multiple times, striking him twice in his ballistic vest and once in the neck. The neck wound left the 14-year Marine Corps veteran paralyzed from a spinal cord injury and unable to speak, the article reports. Following the May 4 shooting, he has undergone six surgeries.

The New York Post reports that Friesenhahn’s family says Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales’s Office is “soft-peddling the charges” after they reportedly let the attacker walk free on four prior arrests.

Friesenhahn is the father of a five-month-old girl and served in the Marine Corps for 14 years — including a combat tour in Iraq.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers placed an immigration hold on Ortega Ruiz due to his lengthy criminal history and record of no-shows on court appearances, the Post report states.

The New York Post reports:

Ortego Ruiz was first arrested in San Antonio and charged with a DWI in October 2020, according to court records. He was let go on a personal recognizance bond, but failed to show in court.

The Bexar County District Attorney’s office then downgraded the DWI charge to obstructing a passageway.

Ortega Ruiz pleaded guilty to that charge, but violated the terms of his probation and was arrested for a second time in August 2023.

He was let go again after posting a $1,500 bond amount and failed to show up in court for a later hearing.

The illegal migrant got collared a third time in September 2023 and bonded out for $1,500, again failing to show in court at a later hearing.

He was then arrested for a fourth time in November 2024 and sentenced to time served nearly three weeks later.

Ortega Ruiz was also allegedly the center of an assault investigation in which his girlfriend reported he physically attacked her, but he had fled the scene before cops arrived, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Friesenhahn’s brother-in-law Emmanuel Martinez told The Post, “Jimmy’s sacrifice saved people because there’s stories that the guy was going to go inside and do something in that place.”

His family set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Friesenhahn’s ongoing medical expenses and recovery.

As an illegal alien, Ortega Ruiz was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. Texas law also prohibits carrying a gun into a bar.

Explosion rocks US Air Force base in Japan, casualties reported
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] An explosion occurred at the US Air Force base "Kadena" in Japan. Four servicemen were injured. This was reported on June 9 by the Kyodo news agency, citing the country's Defense Ministry.

It is specified that the emergency occurred at a facility on the territory of an American base, controlled by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.

The explosion occurred as Japanese troops were preparing to dispose of unexploded ordnance.

The agency wrote that all four victims were soldiers from the Naha Garrison of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. They suffered lacerations to their hands and were stunned.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on October 11 that Russia is concerned about the new militarization of Japan. He noted that the country is increasingly taking part in naval exercises with NATO members, and also supports the United States' initiatives to create a global missile defense system (MD).

Gabon's military leader announces he will run for president
[AFRICANEWS] Almost two years after he led a coup to end more than five decades of Bongo dynasty rule, Gabon's military leader Brice Oligui Nguema has announced he will run in April's presidential elections.

After the ouster of President Ali Bongo in August 2023, Nguema had vowed to give power back to civilians following a transitional period.

Given the green light in January by the transitional Parliament, a new electoral code enables members of the military and magistrates to run in elections.

Nguema made the announcement at a speech in Gabon's capital. The 50 year old said his vision for the nation was a ''Gabon rising from the ashes'', as he called on the crowd to get behind his candidacy.

To throw his hat in the ring for the role, the former head of the presidential guard will have to abandon his current role at least temporarily, according to Facebook page Infos CTRI officiel.

"If he's not elected, he will return to the barracks," the page added.

ECOWAS team leaves Guinea-Bissau after threat of expulsion
[AFRICANEWS] A mission from the West African Regional bloc, ECOWAS, has left Guinea-Bissau saying the president had threatened to expel it.

The team was sent to the country last month to help it reach a ''political consensus'' on how to conduct elections this year.

It said it had "prepared a draft agreement on a roadmap for elections'' and had started presenting it to the stakeholders for their consent.

But the team decided to leave early on Saturday morning after President Umaro Sissoco Embalo's threat.

It says it will now present its report to the ECOWAS president, including a proposal for an agreement leading to "inclusive and peaceful elections".

Embalo has not responded to the bloc's accusation.

There has been heightened tension in the country over when his five-year mandate ends.

The opposition say his term as president expired last week, but the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that it ends on 4 September.

A new round of general elections was due to take place last November, but Embalo postponed them and has since announced they will take place on the 30 November this year.

Britain
Returning The Right to Bear Arms to Great Britian
[American Thinker] The right to self-defense, and by extension the right to bear arms, has a long and complex history in Britain. Today, many see strict gun control as a hallmark of British law, but this was not always the case. Indeed, Britain has a robust tradition of armed citizenry, rooted in common law, enshrined in the 1689 Bill of Rights, and eroded only in the modern era.

British society faces unprecedented strains, from mass immigration, rising crime and public disorder to distrust of the State, so it is worth re-examining whether Britain has moved too far from its historic principles.

The roots of Britain’s approach to bearing arms can be found in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The overthrow of King James II and the ascension of William III and Mary II resulted in the English Bill of Rights in 1689. Mostly focused on the abuses of State (Royal) power, it contained a clause declaring:

That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defence suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law.

While limited by religious qualification (reflecting the Protestant-Catholic tensions of the time), the Bill of Rights enshrined a foundational acknowledgment of the citizen’s right to bear arms. It was not an unlimited right. It was conditioned by status and subject to the law, but it established that the government could not arbitrarily disarm the population.

Throughout the medieval and early modern periods, the English militia system required men to possess and train with weapons to ensure that defense was a civic responsibility, not a purely professional one. Far from fearing private firearm ownership, the State encouraged it, not least because it lacked a standing army and viewed armed citizens as vital to national defense.

This tradition continued well into the 19th century. Gun ownership was common; regulation was minimal. This changed after World War I, which left Britain with a surplus of weapons, a newly politicized working class that knew how to use them, and an Establishment fearful of a Bolshevik revolution, culminating in the Firearms Act of 1920, the first major piece of modern gun control legislation.

Amazon To Invest $20 Billion In Pennsylvania To Expand Cloud Infrastructure
[ZERO] Amazon Web Services (AWS) is doubling down on its AI ambitions with a $20-billion expansion plan to build two new data center campuses in Pennsylvania, including one directly adjacent to a major nuclear power plant, Reuters reports.

AWS is targeting the deployment of multiple data centers over the next 10 years, and the buildout will be fueled by carbon-free nuclear power, making it one of the largest private-sector nuclear-backed energy deals in the U.S. to date, according to OilPrice.

The first site, slated for Salem Township near the 2.5 GW Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, leverages a standing engineering framework based on the campus’s 960 MW design capacity.

Decrease in Foreign workers in the USA spring 2025
[Powerline] According to official U.S. Government statistics, in the two months from March 2025 to May 2025, the number of foreign-born workers in the U.S. workforce dropped by over one million.

As you can see from the graph above, the data are volatile. We've seen intervals of similar declines (Aug. to Dec. 2024) and intervals of big jumps (Dec. 2024 to Jan. 2025).

During the first few months of COVID, 2.5 million foreign-born workers left the U.S. workforce. But, within a year and a half, the number had recovered to its pre-Covid level.
------------------------------------
The numbers are based on sampling and reports by employers. There are a fair number of blips in the time history of the reports. It remains a question how far this will go.
