-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Torrential rain floods Lahore, kills five across Punjab
[GEO.TV] Heavy rainfall that began at 5am on Thursday lashed Lahore for over six hours, submerging low-lying areas, paralysing traffic, and causing structural damage in several districts across Punjab
...1. Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2. A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3. A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots
...
.
The rain stopped around 11:30am, but drainage work by WASA teams is still ongoing.

Nishtar Town received the heaviest downpour, recording 182mm, while rainwater entered homes in Dharampura, Shah Jamal, Choburji, and surrounding localities. Vehicles and cycle of violences were stranded in deep water, especially in underpasses and along major roads.

A house and mosque in Shah Jamal were also flooded. Wall and roof collapse incidents were reported in Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Pattoki, leaving five people dead, including a woman and two children, and injuring several others.

In Sheikhupura, two children — 5-year-old Fatima and 2-year-old Arham — were killed when their home's roof collapsed. In Pattoki, a 55-year-old woman named Salma Bibi and a 12-year-old boy named Sujawal bit the dust in separate incidents.

In Lahore, a boy was electrocuted while bathing in rainwater collected in a vacant plot near Lari Adda.

Lahore's Katchi Abadis and underpasses were heavily affected, including areas around Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Haji Camp, Canal Road, and Harbanspura. Despite ongoing drainage efforts, many neighbourhoods remained waterlogged.

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported outages on 142 feeders, disrupting power supply in many areas. CEO LESCO urged citizens to avoid power poles and infrastructure during wet conditions and said restoration work would begin once rain stopped.

From Monday.
[Investopedia] Trump Threatens 'Anti-American' BRICS Supporters With Extra Tariff

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 10% tariff on countries that he said support "anti-American" policies of the BRICS group of emerging economies.

  • BRICS—an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—now has 11 members after it expanded last year to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

#3  From Britannica:

niobium (Nb), chemical element, refractory metal of Group 5 (Vb) of the periodic table, used in alloys, tools and dies, and superconductive magnets. Niobium is closely associated with tantalum in ores and in properties.

Niobium was first discovered (1801) in an ore sample from Connecticut by the English chemist Charles Hatchett, who called the element columbium in honour of the country of its origin, Columbia being a synonym for the United States.

#4  Maybe I will save you a google search:

Niobium is primarily used to enhance the strength and durability of steel, particularly in high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steels used in pipelines, construction, and automotive applications. It also finds use in superalloys for jet engines and gas turbines, as well as in superconducting magnets for applications like MRI machines and particle accelerators. Additionally, niobium is used in electronics, optics, and even in jewelry due to its hypoallergenic properties and ability to be anodized in various colors.

Europe
Solar becomes number one energy provider in Europe
Possibly not their wisest decision…
[GEO.TV] Solar energy has become the number one source of electricity in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
for the first time, according to new research.

A report by the Ember group, a UK-based energy think tank, shows that solar panels generated more power than any other source across the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
in June, making up 22.1 percent of the total electricity mix.

That placed it ahead of nuclear power on 21.8 percent and wind turbines on 15.8 percent, according to the British-based institution. Gas accounted for 14.4 percent and hydropower 12.8 percent.

Ember said that at least 13 countries broke their national record for solar power production.

Wind power production also hit a new record for Europe, and coal has never accounted for such a low share of Europe's electricity output — Ember estimated it at 6.1 percent across the continent, down from 8.8 percent in 2024.

But with demand for electricity rising, the use of coal in the first half of 2025 was still higher than in the same period in 2024, Ember said. Electricity demand in the first six months was more than two percent higher than last year.

#6  'Solar becomes number one energy provider in Europe'

Yeah, for about 6 hours per day when it's not cloudy which if I remember correctly is about 28% of the time. In the winter it's even less.

#7  The sun also shines less in the winter and is lower in the sky. We have a very good system on our house in So Cal, but winter production is still dramatically lower.

Keep them guessing
[TWZ] An unknown containerized launcher able to fire the same suite of artillery rockets and ballistic missiles as the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) seen at the U.S. Army's Fort Bragg earlier this year has been identified. This comes as the Army's top general in the Indo-Pacific region has highlighted the value of ''boxes of rockets'' hiding in plain sight as part of a broader strategy that ''gives our adversary pause.''

As for the launcher seen at Bragg, it is a prototype launch system developed as part of the Palletized Field Artillery Launcher (PFAL) project that is said to currently belong to U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM). PFAL presents a harder-to-spot and otherwise flexible strike capability, especially for launching ballistic missiles, which could be of interest to the regular Army if the service is not pursuing something in this vein already.

TWZ was the first to report on the container with the launcher inside at Fort Bragg after spotting it in videos, one of which is seen below, of President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
's visit to the base back in June. Bragg is the Army's main special operations hub, and is also home to the 82nd Airborne Division, among other units.

Last year, Military Times also published a very brief video of the PFAL, seen below, but did not name the launcher and provided no further details.

This is ''the Palletized Field Artillery Launcher or PFAL. These are prototype launcher platforms owned by SOCOM,'' Darrell Ames, an Army spokesperson, told TWZ. ''This is not MLRS and the platform in the picture is not fielded to the Army. The prototype does launch the current MLRS family of munitions [MFOM] with the exception of PrSM.''

MFOM currently includes 227mm guided artillery rockets, as well as an Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) short-range ballistic missiles, the latter of which the Army is in the process of fielding now. All the munitions come in standardized 'pods' that can each hold six rockets, a single ATACMS, or two PrSMs. The PFAL launcher can accommodate two of these pods at once.
