Akron OH officials cancel Juneteenth events over safety concerns
[Fox8] Mayor Shammas Malik
(D, Moslem colonist)
on Friday announced the cancellation of all large events on public property in the city set for Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, due to “safety concerns” posed by several city council members.

It’s been nearly two weeks since a mass shooting during a birthday party near the intersection of Kelly and 8th avenues killed one person and injured 27 others. At least 45 shots from five different weapons were fired. No arrests have been made.

Malik said eight council members, some of whom represent wards where Juneteenth-related events were set for the coming weekend, signed and emailed a letter to him on Friday afternoon, referencing the June 2 shooting and calling it “irresponsible” to allow Juneteenth events to continue this weekend.

“When I get a letter like that, I take it seriously,” Malik said at a hastily called media briefing on Friday evening. “Despite the deference to our city council members, in this instance, there is no credible threat to this weekend’s Juneteenth events.”

The letter, which you can read below, was signed by Council President Johnnie Hannah, Ward 5; Vice President Jeff Fusco, at-large; and Councilmembers Margo Sommerville, Ward 3; Brad McKitrick, Ward 6; Sharon Connor, Ward 10; Sam DeShazior, Ward 1; Phil Lombardo, Ward 2; and Jan Davis, Ward 4.

Less than two hours before a scheduled concert on Friday in Akron’s Lock 3 park, the mayor announced the park would be closed and that the concert would be canceled.

Wikipedia:
Shammas Iqbal Qammar Malik was born and raised in Ward 8, Northwest Akron, Ohio in a Muslim family.[1][2] He is Pakistani and White.[3] His mother, Helen Qammar, was a chemical engineering professor at the University of Akron.[1] Brandon Choi is an uncle-in-law. In 2009, he graduated from Firestone High School with an International Baccalaureate Diploma.[4] He earned dual bachelor's degrees in political science and international studies from the Ohio State University in 2013.[4] Malik completed a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2016.[1] During law school, he completed several summer internships in Washington, D.C., including at The Pentagon.

#4  Akron has really gone downhill since the blimp industry collapsed. Sad.

A bit ironic that Juneteenth got canceled, given the events that took place to make the day memorable.

Telehealth executives accused of $100m Adderall scheme
[BBC] US investigators have arrested the founder and CEO of a telehealth company who is accused of a running a $100m (£78m) scheme to fraudulently distribute over 40m pills of Adderall and other controlled substances.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland said that Done CEO Ruthia He conspired with the company's clinical president, David Brody, "to provide easy access to Adderall and other stimulants for no legitimate medical purpose".

America's top law officer said the executives had exploited telemedicine rules that were loosened during the Covid pandemic.

Done Global, a San Francisco-based start-up, became popular during the pandemic as an online way to obtain Adderall by paying a monthly subscription fee.

Ms He was arrested in Los Angeles and Dr Brody in San Rafael, California, according to officials.

They are charged with distribution of controlled substances. They could each face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Adderall is a medication that helps manage symptoms of ADHD - which can include an inability to focus on a single task.

The charges come amid a national shortage of the drug.

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole Argentieri accused the pair of "spending millions on deceptive advertisements on social media".

"These charges are the Justice Department’s first criminal drug distribution prosecutions related to telemedicine prescribing through a digital health company," Ms Argentieri said in a statement.

Part of the alleged scheme included increasing the subscription fee, thus increasing the value of the company to "unlawfully enrich themselves".

The defendants also allegedly limited information available to prescribers, and instructed them to prescribe medications to patients even when they did not medically qualify.

They also allegedly mandated that Done patients complete an initial screening with the prescriber for no longer than 30 minutes.

Officials say they continued the illegal scheme "even after being made aware that material was posted on online social networks about how to use Done to obtain easy access to Adderall and other stimulants, and that Done members had overdosed and died".

They are also accused of defrauding government healthcare assistance programmes Medicare and Medicaid, as well as pharmacies, out of at least $14m and of conspiring to obstruct justice by deleting documents and emails.

New scares emerge as Britney Spears becomes more 'fragile': Report
[GEO.TV] Britney Spears seemingly needs to slow down with her extravagant spending, if she wishes to spend the life of a popstar.

As fans will be aware, the Princess of Pop lost her position in the music industry despite the end of her 13-years-old conservatorship in 2021.

Then last years, the songstress also announced a life-long promise to never come back to the industry, and now a tipster revealed to In Touch Weekly how this decision can harm Britney amid mental health struggles.

"She’s earning a fraction of what she did in her peak earning years," the insider claimed and branded the Criminal hitmaker as merely "a social media star now."

The source even expressed concerns over her financial situation and added, "She could run out of money if she keeps spending the way she’s spending."

Nonetheless, they declared that "there’s still a mountain of money she can make if she wants to," revisit her decision of never returning to the industry.

"She can perform live again, and songwriters continue to pitch music that, if Britney actually recorded it, could be hits," the insider hopefully continued.

Before resigning from the chat, the source maintained that "Britney is fragile right now and needs help," and claimed that "the path she’s on now is only going to lead to more pain. The scary thing is there’s no plan for the rest of her life."

Divers find remains of Finnish WWII plane that was shot down by Moscow with a US diplomat aboard
HELSINKI (AP) — The World War II mystery of what happened to a Finnish passenger plane after it was shot down over the Baltic Sea by Soviet bombers appears to finally be solved more than eight decades later.

The plane was carrying American and French diplomatic couriers in June 1940 when it was downed just days before Moscow annexed the Baltic states. All nine people on board the plane were killed, including the two-member Finnish crew and the seven passengers — an American diplomat, two French, two Germans, a Swede and a dual Estonian-Finnish national.

A diving and salvage team in Estonia said this week that it had located well-preserved parts and debris from the Junkers Ju 52 plane operated by Finnish airline Aero, which is now Finnair. It was found off the tiny island of Keri near Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, at a depth of around 70 meters (230 feet).

"Basically, we started from scratch. We took a whole different approach to the search," said Kaido Peremees, spokesman for the Estonian diving and underwater survey company Tuukritoode OU, explained the group’s success in finding the plane’s remains.

NAFTA killing the USA a company at a time.

Remember back in 1979 when DC sold us the idea that NAFTA would enrich the Mexico economy, stem the ILLEGAL Immigrant flow into the USA, by setting up factory and jobs down there?

How many millions of US Citizen have lost jobs since NAFTA was passed in the 90's?

How is it, China and other countries can ship goods into Mexico, and it's covered under NAFTA?

How did we end up with almost 24.2 million Illegals since NAFTA was suggested, passed and now have Press #2 for English?

#5  ^Abu, PYREX™ is borosilicate glass and I still have some pan lids and a lasagna pan made from it. While pyrex™ is a trademark registered for soda glass ...we used to make PYREX™ in the mainland US.

#6  Important point being only the borosilicate stuff has the temperature tolerance everyone associates with PYREX. Be real careful with the other stuff.

#7  I like the 2 cup Pyrex glass containers for portioning chili and such in individual servings, so I have a lot of them. Unfortunately, they changed the plastic of which the lids are made, which now crack after only a few years instead of lasting well over a decade.

How Boeing's latest scandal could leave NASA astronauts 'stranded in space' on the ISS

#1  ...The good news is that Space X is able - and ready - to go up and get them. The bad news is that if Starliner has to be abandoned (not imminent at this stage, but not absolutely impossible) then Boeing and the NASA transport program will be finished. Nobody will ever be able to justify another dime.
