A Virginia man was convicted of terrorism offenses and sentenced to 25 years in prison after taking inspiration from the @SPLCenter in 2012 by using their target map list to attempt a mass shooting in D.C.
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

An @splcenter staff attorney was arrested & charged with domestic terrorism in Atlanta over his alleged role in a violent ambush attack on law enforcement on March 5. In 2012, leftist Floyd Lee Corkins (pictured) carried out an attempted mass shooting of Christian lobbying group @FRCdc in DC. He was thwarted after shooting a security guard. He told investigators he wanted to kill as many as possible & that he used the SPLC's hate watch list to pick his target. He was convicting of terrorism & other felonies & sentenced to 25 years in prison.
AKA Floyd Corkins II of Herndon, Va., he arrived at the downtown Washington, DC office of the Family Research Council on Aug. 15, 2012 carrying a brand new semiautomatic handgun, two loaded clips, a short list of organizations listed by the SPLC as socially conservative, and a bag containing 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He planned a massacre, but actually only got off three shots, winging a security guard before he was wrestled to the ground and arrested. It was reported at the time that Mr. Corkins volunteered The DC Center for the LGBT Community, which is suggestive. The Justice Dept. press release following his conviction has more.

Courtesy of Skidmark, Fox News adds:
The left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center reportedly laid off more than 60 employees late Wednesday, leading at least one member of its union to assail the Montgomery, Alabama.-based organization on X, formerly Twitter.

The organization has long been known for its cataloging of purported "hate groups" and "enabler" groups or individuals, including several evangelical and Catholic entities, conservative members of Congress and the late radio icon Rush Limbaugh – all of which are sprinkled among its monitoring of groups more widely considered racist or misogynist such as the Ku Klux Klan and Proud Boys.

Several of the reported layoffs affected top officials in the organization's union, which was reportedly organized in 2019 to fight "inequitable" practices at the organization.

"Today, SPLC – my employer – laid off over 60 of our union members, essentially shuttering multiple departments," Hannah Gais wrote on X.

"Speaking in a personal capacity, I endorse each and every single word of this statement from our union. [A]n organization with this much money has no excuse," she added.

The referenced union statement, also posted to X, said more than 60 union members, including its chairperson and five stewards, were informed their jobs would be cut.

"We are devastated for our union and for our colleagues," the union said. In another tweet, the union said SPLC has nearly $1 billion in reserves and is facing allegations of "hoarding" donations while "gutting its staff by a quarter."

Fox News Digital reached out to SPLC for comment on the layoffs and allegations of donation hoarding via multiple avenues but did not immediately receive a response. A person who picked up the phone at the organization directed Fox News Digital to an extension that eventually went to voicemail.

In a statement to the Alabama Reflector, the group said it would be taking actions to streamline its activities and operations in order to better advance its cause.

"We announced internally the consolidation of certain programs and activities as well as the elimination of others, resulting in staff reductions," the press team wrote.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision to focus and align our work with our programmatic priorities and goals. We deeply value the contributions of all our staff and their commitment to ensuring the promise of equal justice is a reality for all," the group told the outlet.

The Reflector reported the group said the move would allow Deep South communities to be better served.

The group has long faced a history of discrimination allegations while simultaneously claiming to be a "catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond."

In the 1980s, the group won several civil suits on behalf of KKK victims. The organization was originally founded in 1971.

In 2022, in response to allegations by union members of an "inequitable" post-COVID reopening plan at its offices, SPLC President and CEO Margaret Huang tallied 400 employees at the time, and said less than 10% held positions that required them to be in the office.

The SPLC also notably had to apologize after labeling neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson as an "extremist."

Suspected NYC jihadist was caught near major airport as new details of averted ‘disaster’ are revealed
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[NYPost] The suspected Queens jihadist busted with an arsenal of weapons in his SUV was ordered held without bail on Thursday — as disturbing new details of the case emerged in court.

Judd Sanson, 29, was just blocks from La Guardia International Airport when he was stopped by alert cops early Wednesday morning — and nervously reached under the seat of his SUV during the first few tense moments of the encounter with the officers, prosecutors revealed.

They later found a loaded 9mm Glock pistol under the driver’s seat.

"Sorry, there is a lot of drunk people nowadays," Sanson allegedly told the cops after they stopped him for having obscured license plates on the vehicle. "I live in Jamaica. I was visiting my uncle."

But police had already spotted a knife strapped to Sanson’s leg, along with an MTA reflective vest and "a makeshift axe hanging from the ceiling" and a "makeshift sword" inside the vehicle, Queens Assistant District Attorney Dylan Nesturrick said in Queens Criminal Court.

In all, the prosecutor said nearly a dozen weapons, an NYPD bullet-proof vest and 179 rounds of ammunition were found inside the black Ford Explorer.

He also said Sherlocks found a "disturbing photo" on Sanson’s Facebook page but did not elaborate.

Prosecutors said he has addresses in Tennessee and Maryland, but lives with his father in the Hollis section of Queens and has a 1-year-old daughter.

His lawyer said Sanson works as a "self-employed mechanic" and supports his young daughter.

Thomas Montella of Queens Defenders asked Lozano to set reasonable bail for his client.

"This is, at the end of the day, a gun case," Montella said.

But the judge sided with prosecutors, who asked that he be held at Rikers Island without bail pending a return court appearance on Monday.

"It is concerning that he was a few blocks way from the airport," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said after the arraignment. "You got to ask about the intent."

Sanson was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and was questioned at the 110th Precinct stationhouse until he was led out in handcuffs earlier on Thursday for his date in court.

He smiled as he was peppered with questions by news hounds — and broke into a wide grin when one asked if he had purchased his weapons arsenal on Amazon.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth ordered the entire 614th quadrant searched. The Green Lensman must be found!...
cops executed a search warrant at his father’s apartment and were in and out of the Jamaica Avenue building on Thursday, with prosecutors saying they found a Glock holding case inside.
Investigators were looking into whether the individual, identified by police as 27-year-old Judd Sanson, has a history of emotional issues or may have been trying to self-radicalize in the name of terrorism.

US asylum restrictions may violate international law, says UNHCR chief
[AFRICANEWS] The head of the U.N. refugee agency says he understands that the Biden administration enacted new restrictions on asylum-seekers entering the United States, but cautioned that some aspects of the executive order may violate refugee protection required in international law.

Filippo Grandi, the U.N. high commissioner for refugees, spoke to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named as his agency issued its annual "Global Trends" report for 2023 on Thursday. It found that the cumulative number of people who have been subjected to forced displacement rose to 120 million people in 2023 — 6 million more than in the year before.

The refugee agency noted that the total count was roughly equivalent to the entire population of Japan.

The UNHCR report found that three-fourths of those people forcibly displaced — including both refugees driven abroad and people displaced inside their own countries — lived in poor or middle-income countries. Grandi insisted that was a sign of how migrant and refugee flows were not just an issue for the rich world.

He lamented how crises in Africa had been largely overlooked, in particular in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
, where some 10.8 million were displaced at the end of last year, after conflict erupted between forces loyal to rival generals in April last year.

Grandi said the world’s focus on crises faced by refugees and internally displaced people has largely centered on Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
-- where a devastating and deadly conflict erupted in October last year -- and Ukraine, which has been saddled by Russia’s invasion since February 2022.

He lamented how the world has largely overlooked the refugee crisis spawned by the conflict in Sudan.

The United States, meanwhile, has faced the "most complex challenge" when it comes to refugees of any country in the developed world, Grandi said — alluding to an influx across the U.S.-Mexican border.

The U.N. refugee agency chief criticized Biden administration plans to enact new restrictions on migrants colonists seeking asylum at the border — seen by some as a political maneuver ahead of national elections in November — as a possible violation of international humanitarian law.

But he acknowledged that Biden administration ambitions to resettle some 125,000 refugees in the United States amounted to "a very shining example of U.S. generosity."

UNHCR also highlighted difficulties faced by refugees and internally displaced people amid conflict in countries like Congo and Myanmar, and noted that Syria remains the world’s largest displacement crisis with nearly 14 million people forcibly displaced both inside the country and abroad.

Saudi leaves the petrodollar system: A global finance paradigm shift
[TBSnews] The crucial decision to not renew the contract enables Saudi Arabia to sell oil and other goods in multiple currencies, including the Chinese RMB, Euros, Yen, and Yuan, instead of exclusively in US dollars. Additionally, the potential use of digital currencies like Bitcoin may also be considered

Significant financial upheaval is potentially ahead of the financial world as Saudi Arabia has decided not to renew its 80-year petro-dollar deal with the United States. The deal, which expired on Sunday 9 June, was a cornerstone of the United States global economic dominance.

Originally signed on 8 June 1974, the deal established two joint commissions, one based on economic cooperation and the other on Saudi Arabia's military needs. At the time, it was said that it heralded an era of close cooperation between the two countries, says Katja Hamilton of BizCommunity.

This latest development signifies a major shift away from the petrodollar system established in 1972, when the US decoupled its currency from gold, and is anticipated to hasten the global shift away from the US dollar.

CROSS-BORDER CBDC TRANSACTIONS
In a more recent move, Saudi Arabia has announced its involvement in Project mBridge, a project which explores a multi-central bank digital currency (CBDC) platform shared among participating central banks and commercial banks. It is built on distributed ledger technology (DLT) to enable instant cross-border payments settlements, and foreign-exchange transactions.

The project has more than 26 observing members including the South African Reserve Bank, which was greenlighted as a member this month.

The better known observing members of mBridge are those of the Bank of Israel, Bank of Namibia, Bank of France, Central Bank of Bahrain, Central Bank of Egypt, Central Bank of Jordan, European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Reserve Bank of Australia, and the World Bank.

In tandem, the project steering committee has created a bespoke governance and legal framework, including a rulebook, tailored to match the platform's unique decentralised nature.

EVOLUTION OF PROJECT MBRIDGE
Project mBridge is the result of extensive collaboration starting in 2021 between the BIS Innovation Hub, the Bank of Thailand, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, the Digital Currency Institute of the People's Bank of China and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

In 2022, a pilot with real-value transactions was conducted. Since then, the mBridge project team has been exploring whether the prototype platform could evolve to become a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) – a stage now reached.

As it enters the MVP stage, Project mBridge is now inviting private-sector firms to propose new solutions and use cases that could help develop the platform and showcase all its potential.

#1  A major blow to US economy.

Well, every cloud has a silver lining: if Saudi don't support USD, US shouldn't protect Saudia. Let Iran eat it.
Posted by: Grom the Reflective || 06/14/2024 6:05 Comments || Top||

#2  This really isn't a big a deal as people are making it out to be. They are just dealing in other currencies now. The majority of business, i.e. 99% of it, will still be in the USD. Really, what other major power will use anything else? Most other currencies are shit, no one trusts the Yuan as it is the most manipulated currency in the world and there is no major supply of money other than the dollar.

Put away your smelling salts.
Posted by: DarthVader || 06/14/2024 6:19 Comments || Top||

#3  I hope I'm around long enough to see how well this works for the world.

I expect a global normalization of regional currency value for goods and services is going to drive some shitholes independent countries, which have been sustained by a stable monetary system, to collapse.
Posted by: Skidmark || 06/14/2024 7:39 Comments || Top||

#4  ...I'm with DV on this one, with the caveat that when SHTF, it will be easier for the Saudis to shift currency if they feel it's worth it.

Senior Hamas leader says proposed amendments to Gaza ceasefire 'not significant'
[GEO.TV] The changes that Hamas has requested to a ceasefire proposal by the United States are "not significant" and include the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, a senior leader in the group told Reuters on Thursday.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that Hamas had proposed numerous changes, some unworkable, to the US-backed proposal, but that mediators were determined to close the gaps.
