Several Supremes Report Book Payments and Gifts
[Epoch Times] Several U.S. Supreme Court justices reported hundreds of thousands in book payments, according to disclosure forms that were made public on Friday.

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson received concert tickets from singer Beyoncé and a nearly $900,000 advance payment for a forthcoming book, according to a disclosure form that was made public on Friday. Justice Jackson signed her book contract soon after taking her seat in 2022. The book, "Lovely One," is slated to be published in September.

She was provided with four concert tickets worth a total of $3,711.84, the form stated. It was among three gifts she received in 2023, the disclosure said, which revealed also she received $12,500 worth of artwork.

Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and Sonia Sotomayor also reported income from books they have published or will publish.

An amended disclosure, dated March 15 and made public on Friday, also showed that Justice Clarence Thomas made one trip on July 12, 2019, to Bali, Indonesia. The other trip was from July 18 to July 21, 2019. The location was Monte Rio, California.

Previously, some critics of the U.S. Supreme Court have called for stricter reporting requirements from the justices. Some have said that they shouldn’t be able to accept gifts at all.

In November 2023, the Supreme Court announced its first code of conduct governing the ethical behavior of the justices amid outside pressure after it was revealed that they took undisclosed vacations and trips.

CNN Analyst: Let's Face It -- Fani's Case Is Dead
[HOT AIR] Will injustice delayed become injustice denied? Fani Willis and Donald Trump will eventually find out.

This week, the appellate court in Georgia agreed to hear the defense objection to the ruling that denied their disqualification motion against Willis. Notably, the court later also froze all action in the case, where Judge Scott McAfee still had significant pre-trial motions to weigh:
On Tuesday, the Georgia Court of Appeals scheduled its hearing to weigh an effort from Trump and seven other co-defendants' to disqualify Willis from trying her case against the former president over his alleged attempts to overturn the Peach State's 2020 election results. That hearing is set for early October.

One day later, the appeals court said the case will be on hold until a panel of judges rules on whether Willis should be disqualified, and a decision is expected by March 2025, though it could rule sooner.

Has the case been paused entirely, though? The Washington Examiner raises that question in its report because the appeal did not include all of the defendants in Willis' wide-reaching RICO indictment. Technically, McAfee could still work on the issues that relate to the other defendants:

Biden unveils latest attempt to kill off gas cars

[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] The Transportation Department told automakers they have eight years to squeeze another 16 miles per gallon out of their cars if they want to stay in business - while the fuel efficiency of their trucks will have to double.

Friday's edict came just weeks after the EPA slashed the limits on tailpipe emissions as part of the White House pledge to ensure that more than half of all new vehicles sold are electric by 2032.

But the administration admitted last week that just seven EV charging stations have been built since a $5-billion program was signed off in 2021.

'That's just pathetic,' Sen Jeff Merkley (D-Ore) told a Senate hearing on Wednesday. 'Something is terribly wrong and it needs to be fixed.'

Gavin Newsom slammed for his approach to illegal weed as organized crime spirals in California amid...
[Daily Mail, where America gets itsnews] …80% drop in raids by flagship taskforce
  • Governor created United Cannabis Enforcement Taskforce (UCETF) in 2022 to tackle thriving illegal weed trade

  • He has boasted of its achievements, but sheriffs say it has done little to help

  • One said it was like 'giving someone a garden hose to put out a forest fire'
It was never meant to be this way.
Unintended consequences?? Suzie, fetch my pearls — I feel an irresistible need to clutch!
Legislators had hoped that the mere creation of a commercial market for cannabis in 2021 would drive out the black market, while generating billions of dollars a year in taxed sales. But they failed to account for the reality that decriminalizing a vast and highly profitable industry would open the floodgates to organized criminals and opportunists, for whom the reduced risks of prosecution incentivized their growth.

Those who remained outside of the law have also been able to undercut legitimate businesses, which have been hammered with high taxes.

Unlicensed grows are now believed to outnumber legitimate farms by tenfold, while evidence suggests two thirds of every cannabis purchase is made illegally.

The creation of the taskforce was a tacit admission that politicians had been grossly naïve to believe that legalization would be the magic wand to rid the state of illegal weed.

It has been charged with coordinating enforcement efforts at state, local and federal level.

Since inception, the taskforce has seized around $400million in unlicensed cannabis through 256 search warrants. It has also eradicated 409,656 plants and seized 139 firearms.

But the number of search warrants it has served fell from 92 in the second quarter of last year to just 18 in the first quarter of 2024.

There is the buried lead. Taxes, licensing and regulation have stifled the legal cultivation and sales business so much that they cannot compete with the illegal weed trade. Arithmetic wins again!

Former Obama official [Clapper] gives one-word answer when asked if he would retract attack over Hunter Biden laptop
[FoxNews] A former top intelligence official gave a one-word answer when asked if he would retract the letter he signed along with 51 other former officials warning Hunter Biden's infamous "laptop from hell" was Russian disinformation.

James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence in the Obama administration, signed the heavily scrutinized letter just weeks before the 2020 presidential election, claiming the laptop had "all the earmarks" of a Russian effort to influence the vote.

"No," he simply said when asked by Fox News Digital if he regretted signing it despite the laptop now being used by prosecutors arguing Hunter committed a federal gun crime.

Despite claims from former officials that the laptop had the hallmarks of Russian disinformation, Fox News Digital reported that federal investigators with the Department of Justice knew in December 2019 that Hunter Biden’s laptop was "not manipulated in any way" and contained "reliable evidence."

5 takes on the Hunter Biden laptop that have aged poorly

  • Twitter uses Big Tech might to block Hunter Biden story and punish New York Post

  • ’60 Minutes’ insists laptop cannot be verified during Trump interview

Government Corruption
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs under investigation for alleged 'pay-to-play' scheme
[FoxNews] A report revealed a group home company got a rate hike after it donated $400,000 to Hobbs and the state Democratic Party

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs is being investigated for an alleged "pay-for-play" scheme after a report revealed a group home business that looks after vulnerable children was approved for a rate hike after it donated to her inauguration and the Arizona Democratic Party.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, said her office has launched a probe into the matter after receiving a request from state Sen. T.J. Shope, a Republican who is also the Arizona Senate president pro tempore.

The request came after a report in The Arizona Republic showed Sunshine Residential Homes, the operator of group homes for foster kids, was approved for a nearly 60% increase in taxpayer funds via the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) after previously being denied an increase.

The approval came after the private company donated around $400,000 to Hobbs, including to her campaign and inauguration, as well as to the state Democratic Party, according to the report.

The publication reported that, since July 2022, group home providers have asked the department at least a dozen times to increase the rate for a standard bed.

One provider, Ohana Homes, received an increase to $155 a day in September 2022, before Hobbs took office, and then Ohana’s contract was not renewed this year.

Sunshine Residential Homes sought a 20% rate increase in December 2022, to $179 per day, but DCS refused on Feb. 6, 2023, according to records provided by the department cited by The Arizona Republic.

Then, on Feb. 9, 2023, a $100,000 check from Sunshine was credited to Hobbs’ inaugural campaign. And in May 2023, it secured a rate increase, netting Sunshine Residential $234 per day for standard group home services. It is far higher than the average $169 for other group homes. However, a spokesperson for Hobbs told the publication the payment was made Dec. 15, 2022.

The increase means Sunshine is receiving the most out of dozens of home providers operating in the state, The Arizona Republic reported, citing DCS and state contract records it reviewed.

The publication also reported that no other group home provider has been approved for a rate increase during Hobbs’ tenure. Sunshine requested the increase due to financial hardships amid the COVID-19 pandemic and inflation, according to The Arizona Republic.

NY v. Trump: Judge reveals Facebook post implying juror discussed guilty verdict before trial concluded UPDATE: It’s a hoax
More on this story from yesterday.
UPDATE: Aaaaand it turns out to be a hoax. Information courtesy of Anon1 can be seen here.
[FOXNEWS]The judge presiding over former President Trump’s New York criminal trial notified his defense team on Friday of a comment on the court's public Facebook page that implies one of the jurors discussed the guilty verdict with family before the trial concluded.

Fox News obtained the letter Judge Juan Merchan shared with Trump defense attorneys and Manhattan prosecutors.

"'Today, the Court became aware of a comment that was posted on the Unified Court System's public Facebook page and which I now bring to your attention. In the comment, the user, ’Michael Anderson,’ states:

"’My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted! Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!!’"

The comment was posted on May 29 "regarding oral arguments in the Fourth Department of the Appellate Division unrelated to this proceeding."

The profile for "Michael Anderson" has little publicly available information, but the user identifies himself as a "Transabled & professional sh-- poster."

A Trump campaign official told Fox News Digital they are "investigating the matter."

Al Baker, state OCA spokesperson, said Friday that "as appropriate, the Court informed the parties once it learned of this online content."

The post came a day before Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Trump had pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to all charges.

The six-week-long trial stemmed from charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg
...Soros-owned and operated Manhattan DA. Putting vicious and blood-thirsty criminals in jail only makes them unhappy, and they've led such hard lives after all...

VDH: The Myth That Biden Had Nothing to Do With the Prosecutions of Trump
[TOWNHALL] The five criminal and civil prosecutions of former President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
all prompt heated denials from Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
that President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. ‘This Is A Man ThatDoes Not Seem Demented’...
and Democrat operatives had a role in any of them.

But Biden has long let it be known that he was frustrated with his own Department of Justice's federal prosecutors for their tardiness in indicting Trump.

Biden was upset because any delay might mean that his rival Trump would not be in federal court during the 2024 election cycle. And that would mean he could not be tagged as a "convicted felon" by the November election while being kept off the campaign trail.

Politico has long prided itself on its supposed insider knowledge of the workings of the Biden administration. Note that it was reported earlier this February that a frustrated Joe Biden "has grumbled to aides and advisers that had (Attorney General Merrick) Garland moved sooner in his investigation into former President Donald Trump's election interference, a trial may already be underway or even have concluded..."

If there was any doubt about the Biden administration's effort to force Trump into court before November, Politico further dispelled it -- even as it blamed Trump for Biden's anger at Garland: "That trial still could take place before the election and much of the delay is owed not to Garland but to deliberate resistance put up by the former president and his team."

Note in passing how a presidential candidate's legal right to oppose a politicized indictment months before an election by his opponent's federal attorneys is smeared by Politico as "deliberate resistance."

New Jersey businessman testifies he promised up to $250,000 in bribes in exchange for Sen. Bob Menendez's help
[FoxNews] For bribes, Menendez allegedly convinced senators to approve $300 million in aid to Egypt

A New Jersey businessman took his star turn on the witness stand in the bribery case against Sen. Bob Menendez on Friday, telling a jury he believed he had a $200,000-to-$250,000 deal in 2018 for the Democrat to pressure the New Jersey attorney general's office to stop investigating his friends and family.

Jose Uribe testified in Manhattan federal court in the afternoon, providing key testimony against Menendez and two other businessmen charged in a conspiracy along with Menendez’s wife. Next week, Menendez's lawyers will get to cross-examine the naturalized U.S. citizen.

"Next week we get the truth," Menendez said just before stepping into a car that carried him away from Manhattan federal court, where he has been on trial for the last month. Although he generally speaks briefly in Spanish each day leaving court, he made the comment about truth in English.

Uribe, 57, who pleaded guilty to charges in a March cooperation deal, was the star witness for the government in its bid to win a conviction against the senator, who once held the powerful post as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He was forced out of it after charges were lodged last fall.

Menendez, 70, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he accepted gold bars, cash and a luxury car in return for doing favors for the businessmen. Two businessmen and Menendez's wife, Nadine Menendez, also have pleaded not guilty. Nadine Menendez's trial has been postponed until at least July after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Uribe testified that he was close friends with Wael Hana, who is on trial with Menendez, when Hana told him in early 2018 that New Jersey state criminal investigations swirling around the trucking business of a friend of his and his own insurance business could be largely put to rest if he was willing to spend $200,000 to $250,000.

Uribe said Hana told him that he would go to Nadine Arslanian, who had begun dating Menendez that year, and then "Nadine would go to Senator Menendez," although Uribe did not testify about how the couple could resolve multiple investigations.

Uribe said he held a July 13, 2018, political fundraiser for Menendez, which the senator attended, raising $50,000. He said he attended an afterparty with Menendez and Arslanian that included cocktails, along with "some laughs, some jokes and some dancing," but there was no mention of the work he expected Menendez to do on his behalf.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Pomerantz showed jurors a series of text messages between Uribe and Hana in which Uribe pressed his friend to get the senator to stop the criminal probes.

Trouble Brewing in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention Protests
The exercise should prove illuminating. Yesterday “pro-Palestinian protesters” marched at the White House, chanting for the murder of “Zionists”.
[PJMEDIA] reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
police, the Secret Service, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies sound confident that they're able to handle any protests that occur at the Democratic National Convention in August.

"With two months left until the convention, we’re finalizing plans and making sure all of our operations are safe," CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling told news hounds at a presser on Thursday. "Make no mistake, we are ready. The partnership, collaboration, and open communication between everyone involved is why we are ready."

"We’ve got a tremendous working relationship with Chicago police, as well as a multitude of other agencies, both local and federal, that will be contributing to this whole-of-government approach that we’re taking" with the DNC (If you're white you ain't right!)
...Democrat National Committee, where all those off-the-wall talking points originate...
, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said Tuesday.

Police Superintendent Larry Snelling laid down the law at a presser on Tuesday.

"First Amendment protection is only there if you’re not committing a crime, and you can be acting out peacefully but still breaking the law," Snelling said, discussing safety measures for the convention.

The superintendent went on to say that it's illegal to block a roadway or trespass on private property. There's trouble brewing, and it's not clear that law enforcement understands the nature of the threat. The Paleostinian protesters have an expansive and unrealistic view of what the First Amendment allows and what it doesn't. Snelling was telling the protesters that the law must be obeyed. The protesters believe their right to freedom of speech is nearly absolute.

[DAILYCALLER] Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has spent over $30,000 worth of campaign funds on grooming over the past year, the Chicago Sun-Times first reported.

Johnson campaign adviser Bill Neidhardt justified the spending on hair stylists and makeup artists by saying that the mayor is using “his own campaign funds to pay Black- and women-owned businesses a fair wage in compensation for their work,” the Sun-Times reported. Johnson’s campaign, which the Chicago mayor is drawing from to get his makeup done, is funded by “working-class people” and labor unions, a campaign spokesperson previously said.

“Hair and makeup services are commonplace among high-ranking public officials,” Neidhardt said.

Johnson, however, stands out from his Illinois peers in terms of the quantity of funds allocated to beauty services.

Lori Lightfoot, Chicago’s former mayor, spent $2,000 on makeup, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle paid $217 for similar services and Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a billionaire, made 11 payments totaling $6,000 to a Chicago beauty salon to pay for hair styling and makeup, according to the Sun-Times.

Paul Vallas, who ran against Johnson during last year’s mayoral election, says he doesn’t recall spending campaign funds on grooming but notes that his being bald contributed to the lack of expenditures, the Sun-Times reported.

Johnson’s campaign has an explanation for the mayor’s unordinary spending, with Neidhardt saying that “he’s mayor 24-7” and that “appearances matter,” according to the Sun-Times.

Newsom, Dem leaders try to negotiate Prop 47 reform off California ballots, as GOP wants to let voters decide
[FoxNews] "Prop 47, which was approved by voters in 2014, made several crimes — including shoplifting, grand theft and receiving stolen property — a misdemeanor instead of a felony if the value of the property did not exceed $950. It also lowered the penalty for the personal use of most illegal drugs below a certain weight."

#2  Almost 60% of California voters voted for prop 47 which was endorsed by numerous politicians, celebrities, the ACLU and University 'crime experts'.

There are still numerous libs (not yet mugged) who still support prop 47 and say that the rehab and drug treatment programs will eventually work.

Illegal immigrants are offered an array of taxpayer funded benefits, enticing more to come: 'Pull factor'
[FoxNews] "Illegal aliens coming to America want five things: to enter the U.S.; stay here; work; send money home; and bring or have family here. All these benefits help illegal aliens stay in the U.S., so, yes, the benefits are a pull factor"

"Another benefit to add is legal services for civil deportation hearings, a benefit that U.S. citizens do not receive. Given the millions coming to the U.S. under the Biden administration, American taxpayers will see significant tax increases to pay for all these services given to people who aren’t supposed to be here."
