| BLS: Latest Employment Report for May 2025 |

| Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 139,000 in May, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in health care, leisure and hospitality, and social assistance. Federal government continued to lose jobs. ======================== The decline in Federal Govt employment Jan-May 2025 comes to about 59k which is a pretty large decrease. Hourly earnings increased about the same rate as prices. An increase in short term unemployment was balanced by a decrease in long term unemployment. The increases in previously reported March and April 2025 employment were adjusted downward. |
