[Regnum] The duration of magnetic storms on Earth has reached 48 hours. This was reported on the website of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“The total duration of continuous geomagnetic disturbances as of the current moment is 54 hours, of which 48 hours were storms,” the report says.
According to scientists, magnetosphere oscillations began to increase around 03:00 Moscow time and reached the G2 and G3 levels, which corresponds to a storm of medium and large strength. Such geomagnetic conditions are reported to remain until 15:00 Moscow time.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on May 31, scientists recorded the largest emission on the Sun since the beginning of the year. In this case, the plasma flew towards the Earth. The power of the flow is only slightly less than that of the flow in May last year, which caused a magnetic storm of the fifth category on Earth.
The plasma cloud traveled towards Earth at a speed of over 1,000 km/s. It reached the planet almost a day earlier than scientists had predicted.
