Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders quits coalition, likely leading to elections
2025-06-03
[IsraelTimes] Far-right Dutch leader Geert Wilders withdraws his party from the government in a row over immigration, bringing down a shaky coalition and likely ushering in snap elections.

Wilders has been frustrated with what he saw as the slow pace of introducing the "strictest-ever immigration policy," agreed on with coalition partners after his shock election win in November 2023.

"No signature for our asylum plans... PVV leaves the coalition," Wilders says on X, formerly Twitter.

The withdrawal opens up a period of political uncertainty in the European Union

#4  Geert Wilders, whose father is Dutch and mother is half Indonesian, came out of the center-right, politically. He layered on top of that a strong distrust of the EU, plus a love of Israel and a hatred of being colonized by Islam after spending some time travelling throughout the Middle East as a young man. Politically he is a plain vanilla European nationalist populist: classical liberal in terms of economic and personal freedom issues, and a rejection of mass immigration of Moslem colonists.

His homosexuality is immaterial to any of that.

#1  I am not certain, but this seems like good news. The "Far-Right" label seems unjust, however. Maybe to a commie. Or the EU. They seem the same to me.
