Trump admin freezes $1B in federal funding to Cornell | |
2025-04-09 | |
''The money was frozen in connection with several ongoing, credible, and concerning Title VI investigations,'' a Trump admin official told Fox News. The pause largely involves grants and contracts to both schools with the departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education and Health and Human Services, two administration officials told the New York Times ![]() ...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... A spokesperson for Northwestern told The Post they haven't received any notice from the federal government regarding a funding freeze — stating they were informed of President Trump's supposed decision by members of the media. ''Federal funds that Northwestern receives drives innovative and life-saving research, like the recent development by Northwestern researchers of the world's smallest pacemaker, and research fueling the fight against Alzheimer's disease,'' the rep for Illinois institution said. ''This type of research is now at jeopardy. The University has fully cooperated with investigations by both the Department of Education and Congress.'' Both Cornell and Northwestern were both included on a list of 60 colleges and universities that the Department of Education's civil rights arm warned earlier this month could have federal funding taken away over alleged antisemitic discrimination and harassment on campus. The institutions and shamed included six of the eight Ivy League institutions — Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Yale — and local schools Rutgers, Rutgers-Newark, Sarah Lawrence, three branches of the State University of New York, The New School and Wellesley. #5 We have a marxist activist problem in the United States. It's organized. They are learning this activism somewhere, we all hate it, and we know where they learn it. We need to stop being on defense. |

#4 Smiling this morning ... When I was at Northwestern, the university generally thought itself too prominent, too well connected and essentially "above the law." I feel for my friends and colleagues caught in the vise this morning. And yet ... the word "smug" comes to mind |

#3 Thanks TW. I don't know anything about content blockers, but I'll be on the phone tomorrow with one of my best friends, the Lebanese Christian who does all of the hardware and systems work in my place and is the proprietor of a computer repair/towers/laptops, etc. store in Littleton. He's probably 55 and his eyes don't appear to be in the least bit crazy. I would guess that he's been in this country for about 20 years and when I met him about 12 years ago his English was awful but it has much approved. I type |

#2 Do you have content blockers set to stop pop-up ads and things, Fairbanks dear? I find I have problems with X and a number of news sites when that’s working, so I have to go to the URL bar, click on the drop-down icon at the left end of it, and click on Turn Off Content Blockers. If it’s not that, I have no idea. But with all the serious computer mavens who hang out here, I’m sure someone will have a useful answer for you. Thank you for finding the article and trying — we’ll climb this learning curve together. |

#1 MODS: I've been having trouble when I 'Post a News Article', I can enter everything but I can't type in anything - I can just hit Submit. This one's a USA TODAY article mentioning Colorado regarding places where visa students have been cancelled. Why, 16 in Colorado Universities alone have been cancelled! The sources are USA TODAY and the top two items on the front page of the Denver Post website, which no one particularly looks at anymore (except sports - notice on the front page it's ALL sports until you get to the real news items. Headlines & Links follow. DPOST1: "Colorado officials ready legal defense fund against Trump cuts and potential investigations" DPOST2: "Number of Colorado student visas revoked by Trump administration more than doubles" Links: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/04/08/trump-international-student-visas-revoked/82989535007/ https://www.denverpost.com/2025/04/08/colorado-donald-trump-administration-legal-defense-fund-legislature/ https://www.denverpost.com/2025/04/08/colorado-interntational-students-visa-revoked-trump/ I know I know, I do so much for the benefit of Rantburg and this required a difficult financial burden, which paled against the common barrage of DEI website programming staff with nose and lips pierced and horribly mangled with lots of tacky baubles, where zee pass off their product to an equally DEI testing staff, and I went ahead and purchased a 1 year subscription for $1, probably about right, but that requires you to provide proof that your liquid with a credit card and all sorts of bugs in entering your credit card into the system. It takes alot of tries. |
