US military shoots down Houthi drones as Trump''s strikes against terrorist group continue
[NYPOST] US warships have shot down roughly a dozen Houthi drones since President Donald Trump launched airstrikes against the terrorist organization on Saturday, Fox News has learned.

A senior defense official told Fox News of the developments on Sunday.

The drones were aimed at the US Navy's Truman Carrier Strike Group, and were shot down ''well before'' they posed a serious threat, the official added.

The latest military action came after nearly a year and a half of attacks from Houthis, both on commercial merchant vessels and US military ships.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump wrote that he had ''ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.''

''It has been over a year since a US-flagged commercial ship safely sailed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden,'' Trump continued. ''The last American Warship to go through the Red Sea, four months ago, was attacked by the Houthis over a dozen times.''

Death toll from US strikes on Yemen rises to 53

The number of injured has risen to 98, including nine children and nine women, the ministry said.

The Ministry reiterated its condemnation of the US aggression and its targeting of civilian structures in Sana’a and several provinces, describing the attack on civilians and civilian infrastructure as war crimes, further adding to the US’s criminal record.

The aggression came a few days after the Yemeni Armed Forces resumed their maritime operation against Israeli-linked ships in the southern Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea over the Tel Aviv regime’s blockade on Gaza.

The attack involved 18 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with drones.

The Houthis believe that the real owner of the ship is Abraham Ungar, a major Israeli businessman. According to the channel, two raids were aimed at the captain's cabin of an Israeli ship near the coast of Hodeida.

As reported by Regnum news agency, from November 19 to January 18, the Houthis carried out at least 31 attacks on civilian vessels in the Red Sea using anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to a US official speaking on condition of anonymity, the Houthis did fire drones and at least one missile in its first claimed attack. The official said that beginning at about midnight Saturday-Sunday local time in Yemen, the Houthis fired 11 drones and at least one missile over about 12 hours. Ten of the drones were intercepted by US Air Force fighter jets and one was intercepted by a Navy F/A-18 fighter jet. The missile fell into the water far from the ship, and nothing came close to hitting either the carrier or the warships in its strike group.

Washington has vowed to keep striking Yemen until the rebels stop attacking Red Sea shipping, with US President Donald Trump warning he will use “overwhelming lethal force.”

Houthi media reported more explosions on Sunday night, accusing the Americans of targeting a cotton ginning factory in the western region of Hodeida as well as the command cabin of the Galaxy Leader, an Israel-linked ship captured in November 2023. The Bahamas-flagged, Japanese-operated Galaxy Leader is owned by a British company, which in turn is partially owned by Israeli tycoon Abraham “Rami” Ungar. The Houthis freed its crew in January 2025.
