3 more FEMA workers fired after investigation into skipped homes with Trump signs after Hurricane Milton
2025-03-11
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Three more employees at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have been fired who were involved in the situation in which workers at the agency skipped over Florida homes that had Trump campaign signs on their property in the wake of Hurricane Milton.

Acting Head of FEMA Cameron Hamilton wrote in a letter to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer that the three employees failed "to meet our standards of conduct," and hoped that the firings send a message within the agency.

relief workers to "avoid homes" sporting Trump signs had already been fired back in November following an investigation. In an interview after her firing, she claimed that workers were allowed to skip these homes if they felt "uncomfortable," like if a home had "loose dogs." At least 20 homes were reportedly bypassed, with messages written in the government system like "Trump sign no entry per leadership" on skipped houses.

Those included in the latest round of firings associated with the incident were of employees higher in the chain of command. He wrote that the investigation headed by FEMA's Office of Professional Responsibility in the wake of the actions by agency members "found no evidence that this was a systemic problem, nor that it was directed by agency or field leadership. However,

it did determine that those in the immediate supervisor chain of the single staff member who engaged in this conduct should have had more direct control of their subordinates' behavior. Thus, they have failed to meet my expectations of leaders in this organization and have been terminated."

He noted that in addition to the investigation, he has directed additional training for FEMA staff "to reinforce that political affiliation should never be a consideration in the rendering of assistance."

signed an executive order establishing a council that will undertake a review of the agency. This came after emergency response to the Milton and Helene hurricanes received backlash.
