[Regnum] During search operations in the Zaporizhia region, employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia found the remains of Red Army soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. This was reported on March 9 by the press service of the department.
The events were held jointly with the Zaporizhzhya regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "People's Front "For Russia" and members of the search squad "Southern Front".
“During search operations in a forest 70 m from the road leading to the urban-type settlement of Akimovka in the Melitopol urban district, the remains of three Red Army soldiers were discovered,” the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on its Telegram channel.
In addition to the skeletal remains, the search participants found the soldiers' personal belongings: belt buckles, a sapper shovel, and fragments of uniforms.
Forensic examinations will be carried out to establish the cause of death, after which the remains will be reburied.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, in May of last year, the remains of 49 Red Army soldiers who died in 1943 during the assault on the German fortified line "Wotan" were buried in the Zaporizhzhya region. The fortified area, considered impregnable by the fascists, was stormed by the Red Army for more than five months. More than 200,000 Red Army soldiers died on this land. All the soldiers whose remains were found by the regional search party remained nameless.
