The tremors were recorded at 23:23 UTC (02:23 Moscow time on February 9). The epicenter was located 210 km southwest of the capital of the Cayman Islands, Georgetown, where more than 29,000 people live. The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km.
According to the NOAA Tsunami Warning Center, a tsunami warning has been issued for the islands of the archipelago. There have been no reports of casualties or damage.
Earlier, Regnum News Agency reported that the resort city of Izmir in Turkey is in the risk zone for a strong earthquake, which could be even stronger than the earthquake in Istanbul predicted by seismologists.
