German Vice Chancellor: Israel Will "Certainly And Hopefully Bear Responsibility" For Gaza War | |
2025-02-09 | |
![]() This is the passage about Israel in translation. [DieWelt] In response to a student's question on Friday, Habeck also commented on his decisions regarding arms deliveries to Israel. The pupil called Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip "contrary to international law" and wanted to know how Habeck, as Economics Minister, justifies such supply decisions. Habeck replied that he had "weighed up" which weapons systems to give to Israel - just as he did with other "difficult" countries. The line was therefore: "What Israel needs for protection, it gets. What can be used in direct combat in the Gaza Strip, sometimes not." The "things that clearly go in the direction of exceeding the rules of international law in a war operation", Habeck continued, had not been "released".
One of the reasons for 'Direct combat in the Gaza Strip' is freeing the hostages. One of the hostages who was released on 2/8 and was still held by Hamas on 2/7 when Habeck spoke is a German citizen. #4 Who would have thought that the Greens would one day become part of the German political establishment? |

#3 @2 He's a member of the Green party. In fact within Green leadership circles he's up to now played the Israel-friendly 'good cop' while FM Baerbock has been the 'bad cop.' This statement is the harshest condemnation of Israel from a cabinet minister since 2023/10/7, it is surprising it came from him. |

#2 So, is he an extremist - in terms of EUropean "elites", or just too dumb to watch his mouth? |
