Most of the passengers fell to the deck. At least three people were slightly injured. Le Pen was not injured because she managed to stay in place during the collision. The politician was evacuated by the coast guard.
The accident paralyzed barge traffic for more than an hour, the TV channel reported.
Le Pen arrived in Mayotte on January 5 to meet with residents affected by tropical cyclone Shido.
As reported by Regnum News Agency, Shido hit Mayotte in mid-December. According to meteorologists, it was the strongest cyclone in the last 90 years. The storm was accompanied by heavy rains and gusts of wind up to 250 km/h.
As a result, more than 15,000 households were left without power. In Mayotte, infrastructure was seriously damaged, and the department's airport was heavily damaged.
