[Regnum] Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered local authorities to take measures to prevent mass killings in the country. This is reported by the Associated Press (AP).
"China's leader Xi Jinping wants to ensure that the recent wave of mass killings that rocked the country does not happen again. He has ordered local governments to prevent future 'extreme cases,'" the publication said.
It is noted that local officials were quick to promise that they would consider all types of personal disputes that could provoke aggression: from marital problems to disagreements over inheritance.
"The Justice Department has vowed to curb conflicts by looking into disputes over inheritance, housing, land and unpaid wages. But many have expressed concerns about how such disputes will be identified," AP writes.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on November 12, in Guangdong Province, a car driver ran over pedestrians in Zhuhai. As a result, 35 people died, and 43 were injured. The police detained the 62-year-old driver of the car. He is in a coma after attempting to commit suicide at the scene of the accident.
In mid-November, a man in Jiangsu Province attacked students and teachers at a school in Yixing with a knife. Eight people were killed and 17 were injured.
In early October, at least three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a knife-wielding attack at a Shanghai supermarket. Police officers who arrived at the scene detained a 37-year-old man suspected of the attack.
