 [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] On this day 20 years ago, a gigantic undersea earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia. Measuring 9.1 in magnitude, the violent tremor miles beneath the ocean floor was the third strongest to ever rock the planet. It unleashed a series of catastrophic tsunamis that obliterated everything in their path, killing hundreds of thousands of people on all sides of the Indian Ocean and wiping away entire towns.
