#1 The ship is not very old. If it was an engine room issue, usually that would just leave them DIW. The list indicates that either a sea suction was ruptured or the hull was breached under the waterline. If it burst a pipe, closing a valve would have normally have stopped the flooding. Could have been a cargo explosion, but two dead is what I would expect to lose as an engine room watch team on a cargo ship. It’s possible that the damage could not be isolated. Its possible that scuttling the ship was an expeditious solution to inconvenient cargo. |
