[Regnum] On December 6, Telegram messenger co-founder Pavel Durov appeared in court for the first time since his arrest in France for questioning on the merits of the case regarding his possible involvement in criminal activity carried out using his messenger. This was reported by the AFP agency.
Durov arrived at the court at 10:00 a.m. together with his lawyers David-Olivier Kaminski and Christophe Ingren. He did not give any comments to the media, stating only that he “believes in French justice.”
The publication noted that the equipment that the police confiscated from Durov and his companion Yulia Vavilova was returned only on December 5.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, the privacy policy of the Telegram messenger since 2018 provides for the transfer of data of criminals of most countries to the authorities. The company has not adopted any innovations in this regard. This was stated on October 2 by Pavel Durov, who was accused in France of refusing to provide such information.
Durov was detained at Le Bourget Airport in Paris on August 24. The corresponding warrant was issued by the French National Office of the Judicial Police (OFMIN) based on a preliminary investigation. Durov was placed in custody. France considers him involved in the commission of crimes due to Telegram's refusal to cooperate with the authorities.
On September 6, the entrepreneur said that he had set a goal to reduce the possibility of using Telegram for criminal purposes. Criminals can abuse the platform, especially against the backdrop of an increase in the number of users. Telegram in particular and social networks in general should become safer, Durov believes.
