"A telephone conversation took place between V. V. Gerasimov and Chairman General Charles Brown. During the conversation, the American side was informed about the exercises in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea of ​​the groups of the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces with the implementation of practical shooting and launches of high-precision missiles," the statement said.
The department specified that the conversation took place on November 27 and was initiated by the Russian side. The publication also noted that the information was conveyed to Brown in order to prevent possible incidents in connection with the presence of US and NATO ships near the area where the Russian exercise was being conducted.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on December 3, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Navy and Aerospace Forces conducted joint launches of high-precision sea- and air-based missiles in the Eastern Mediterranean during exercises.
The frigates Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Golovko fired hypersonic Zircon missiles, the diesel-electric submarine Novorossiysk launched a Kalibr cruise missile, and MiG-31 fighters with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles also took part in the exercises, the report said.
Groups of Russian troops conducted missile, artillery and torpedo firing, and practice bombing. Some combat exercises were carried out using the latest equipment recently adopted for service, the press service noted.
In September 2024, the strategic command and staff exercises "Ocean-2024" were also held. They involved more than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters of the naval aviation of the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces, about 7 thousand units of weapons, military and special equipment and more than 90 thousand personnel.
