[KavkazUzel] The Russian Supreme Court has refused to overturn the sentence of Ingushetia residents Aslan Bekov and Ruslan Tsitskiev, who were sentenced to long prison terms for preparing a terrorist attack during the 2018 World Cup.
Appeal denied, original sentence upheld.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on May 30, 2022, it became known that the court sentenced four residents of Ingushetia to long prison terms, including Aslan Bekov and Ruslan Tsitskiev, finding them guilty of preparing a terrorist attack during the 2018 World Cup, justifying terrorism, illegal possession of weapons and membership in the "Islamic State".
The Supreme Court of Russia has refused to overturn the sentence of Aslan Bekov and Ruslan Tsitskiev in the case of participation in an Islamic State cell*, according to the case file published on the court's website.
In 2022, the Southern District Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Bekov to 21 years in prison, Tsitskiev to 20 years.
According to investigators, Bekov created an ISIS cell in 2018, which included several residents of Ingushetia. All of them, according to investigators, planned terrorist attacks during the World Cup in Russia, including in Ingushetia. A counter-terrorist operation against members of the ISIS cell took place in June 2018 in Nazran.
Let us recall that this special operation caused indignation  among the residents of Ingushetia. Those killed during the special operation were members of the family of a retired police colonel, none of them had any connection with the militants and did not shoot at the security forces, local residents said. The security forces, however, claimed that the killed had sworn allegiance to ISIS.
The militants killed in Ingushetia were preparing terrorist attacks on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, said Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who headed the republic at the time. The convicted men themselves said they had confessed under torture.
