CNN's shocking low ratings revealed as staff brace for mass layoffs
2024-11-16 | |
![]() ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... , suffered its worst rating in a key demographic for the first time in a quarter of a century as employees fear more layoffs are coming. Excellent business decision. Look how well it worked for K-Mart. A critical demographic for network news channels are those aged 25 to 54, and on Tuesday - a week after the 2024 presidential election - CNN averaged 61,000 viewers in that range. It was the smallest of audience viewers in that demographic since June 27, 2000, when Bill Clinton ...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of the word is... was in the White House. Could there be a reason for that? It also pulled in bad numbers for its daytime programming - shows that run between 9 am and 5 pm - with an average 60,000 viewers in the demographic on Tuesday. I think mostly in hospital waiting rooms and airports... This was the worst for a non-holiday week since 2014, according to Fox News. And the reason is...? Overall daily viewership for daytime programming sat at 403,000 for the liberal outlet, whereas its competitor and conservative outlet Fox News brought in around 2.2million. So becoming less liberal and a wee bit more conservative might pull in a couple more viewers? Primetime coverage - between 8 pm and 11 pm - also saw struggling viewership numbers with an average of 483,000 since Election Day. Fox News brought in 3.4 million, according to the network. Ted Turner is probably turning over in his grave if he's dead yet. CNN's Election Day coverage also waned compared to previous cycles, with a huge downfall in viewership as it fell below MSNBC for the first time since the company launched, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If nobody's buying the junk you sell, try different junk. CNN brought in 5.1million viewers, while MSNBC had 6.01million. Meanwhile, ...back at the barn, Bossy had come up with a new idea, one that didn't involve kerosene... Fox News led with 10.32million, according to THR.
…The truth is always more nuanced, of course, though in some cases it’s also more simple. …In Wallace’s case, CNN C.E.O. Mark Thompson was planning to cancel both of his shows: Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, the weekly interview series that was originally supposed to air on CNN+ and now airs on Max—until Friday, when it will air its final episode—and the Saturday morning panel discussion program, The Chris Wallace Show. Instead, Thompson and Entelis intended to offer Wallace a new role as an analyst, which would have resulted in a significantly diminished compensation package and, presumably, far less air time. …The most recent broadcast of The Chris Wallace Show drew 450,000 viewers and just 85,000 in the advertiser-coveted 25-to-54-year-old demo—an audience size at which it’s increasingly hard to justify most of the talent salaries at CNN.

#1 When Joe Rogan has a greater audience and runs at a far lesser cost, you need to 'move along' as in 'ash heap of history'. |
