It likely didn't cost a $1M to cut, clear and build. And yes it does not look pretty either. But its a functional, desperately needed Emergency access route into a disaster area.

#5 Listened to a good rant about an obviously catastrophic oil rig fire (Piper Alpha) where the people who went along with The Plan, died. The employees which said da hell with this bailed and lived.

#4 One group was told if they didn't stop their equipment would be confiscated and they would be charges. They didn't have the proper permits.

#2 Fully expect embarrassed gov’t wimps to press any number of violations on these guys; no environmental impact statement, no building permit, illegal cutting of trees, etc.
