| Afghan migrants once again targeted by Iranian Forces’ gunfire |

[KhaamaPress] The human rights organization “Halvash” has reported that a landmine explosion and gunfire targeted a group of Afghan migrants at the Kalgan border in Iran.According to the organization’s report on Monday, October 21, a group of at least 150 Afghan migrants was attacked by Iranian border forces on the evening of Thursday, October 17, in eastern Iran. The report states that the group of migrants, attempting to enter Iran from the Kalgan border in Saravan illegally, was first hit by a landmine explosion, followed by gunfire from Iranian forces. Over 260 migrants were killed, injured, or went missing as a result of the attack. Halvah has stated that it is working to gather more precise information about the incident, while Khaama Press has also been unable to obtain further details. A few days prior to this shooting, a similar report from eastern Iran was published, and several independent media outlets confirmed its accuracy based on eyewitness accounts. The recent escalation of violence at the Iran-Afghanistan border has raised concerns about the safety and treatment of Afghan migrants. Amid ongoing border violence, both Iran and Pakistan have been forcibly deporting Afghan refugees, exacerbating the dire humanitarian crisis in the region. These deportations come at a time when Afghanistan is already struggling with extreme poverty, conflict, and political instability. Human rights organizations have raised concerns about the treatment of Afghan refugees, citing numerous reports of harassment, torture, and violations of basic rights by both Iranian and Pakistani authorities. The lack of proper protection and support for these refugees in host countries has left them vulnerable, with many facing dangerous conditions upon their forced return to Afghanistan. The international community is increasingly calling for immediate action to address these violations and provide protection to the displaced Afghan population. |
