After the capture by the Russian army of the city of Vugledar in the Donetsk region, Velika Novosilka in the Zaporizhia region will be the next target.
This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense with reference to an intelligence report.
Russia has made sporadic attempts to capture Vugledar over the past two years, suffering heavy losses. The complete capture of Vugledar took place after the resumption of the Russian offensive campaign in September 2024.
By the end of the month, Russian occupation forces practically surrounded the city, which led to the retreat of Ukrainian troops.
At the same time, the settlement of Velyka Novosilka in the Zaporizhzhia region may become the next target for capture by the Russian army.
"It is quite likely that in the coming weeks, Russian troops will try to continue advancing beyond Vugledar. In the west, one of the likely targets is the settlement of Velyka Novosilka, Zaporizhzhia region, located on the T0509 highway. eight km to the north is the settlement of Bogoyavlenka," the agency noted. .
Vugledar is a city in the Volnova district of the Donetsk region. The Russians literally erased it, destroying almost all the buildings. Despite constant attacks, the defenders continued to hold some positions in the city.
The heroic defense of the city was led by defenders of the 72nd brigade. Yesterday, Deep State analysts reported that the city was completely captured by the enemy. The brigade denied this: defenders still remained in positions in the city. They added that they were not given an order to leave.
On October 2, units of Ukrainian defenders defending Vugledar were allowed to leave the city in order to preserve personnel and equipment.
