Report: Israel could target Iranian oil facilities in response to missile attack They did it to the Houthis in Yemen, so it wouldn’t be exactly novel… Israel is reportedly planning a significant response to last night’s Iranian missile attack, although the details and timing are yet to be determined. According to the Axios news site, citing unnamed Israeli officials, one of the likely targets is Iranian oil facilities, but an attack on Iran’s air defense system is also a possibility, as are targeted assassinations of senior figures.Hezbollah claims it clashed with Israeli troops in the Lebanese town of Odaisseh Hezbollah claims it confronted Israeli forces “infiltrating” the Lebanese town of Odaisseh early this morning, and forced them to retreat. Hezbollah operatives confronted “an Israeli enemy infantry force that tried to infiltrate into the village of Odaisseh… and clashed with them,” a statement says, adding separately that Hezbollah also targeted three different points across the border with rockets and artillery. There was no immediate comment from the IDF. The Israeli military revealed yesterday that it had conducted dozens of cross-border raids into Hezbollah in recent months and did not have any direct clashes with Hezbollah operatives. IDF says it has struck a number of Hezbollah weapons production sites in Beirut in recent days The IDF says that it has carried out a number of strikes in recent days against Hezbollah infrastructure situated throughout Beirut, releasing footage of one such strike. The military says that its fighter jets operated based on precise intelligence to strike “weapon production sites” and other terror infrastructure in and around Beirut. It took steps to prevent harm to uninvolved civilians, the IDF says, including advance warnings to the population. “The Hezbollah terror organization places its production sites and its weaponry under residential buildings in the heart of Beirut and endangers the population in the area,” the IDF says. The strikes the military is referring to are separate from a number of targeted assassinations it has carried out in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut against Hezbollah officials. Israel is continuing to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon this morning as well, the IDF adds. Lebanese security source says at least 5 Israeli strikes hit Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold A Lebanese security source says that at least five Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after the IDF twice called for residents in the Hezbollah stronghold, known as Dahiyeh, to clear the areas surrounding specific buildings ahead of imminent strikes. “At least five Israeli strikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs,” the source says, requesting anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. AFP correspondents report hearing multiple explosions and saw smoke rising in one area while a fire appeared to burn. The Israeli military says that it is “currently striking Hezbollah terror targets in Beirut.” IDF again instructs civilians to move away from building in Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold The IDF again calls on Lebanese civilians near a specific building in the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, to evacuate immediately ahead of airstrikes. Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, publishes a map which call on civilians to distance themselves at least 500 meters from the site. Several hours prior, the IDF had issued similar instructions for residents surrounding two other buildings in the southern suburb.
IDF announces strikes on ‘terror targets’ in Beirut after issuing new evacuation orders The military announces it is currently striking “terror targets” in Beirut, after issuing a new call for residents of parts of the area to evacuate. A statement from the Israel Defense Forces says it will soon release further details. A Lebanese security source told AFP that the attack targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs. AFP correspondents heard the sound of an explosion from the area, which Israel has struck repeatedly since last week, saying it is targeting Hezbollah sites. Lebanese health ministry says 55 killed Tuesday in Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah Israeli strikes against Hezbollah targets in several regions of Lebanon on Tuesday killed 55 people and wounded 156, the country’s health ministry says. IDF calls on civilians to clear away from 2 buildings in Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold The IDF is calling on Lebanese civilians near two buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, to evacuate immediately ahead of airstrikes. Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, publishes maps alongside the announcement, which call on civilians to distance themselves at least 500 meters from the sites.
Iran says it did not give US prior notice of ballistic missile attack on Israel Iran did not give the United States prior notice of its attack on Israel, Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York says. “No notice was given to the United States prior to our response; however, a serious warning was issued afterwards,” the Iranian mission says in a statement. Hours ahead of the attack, the US said it had “indications” that Iran was preparing to fire at Israel. IDF says commander of Iranian militia killed alongside Hezbollah official in Beirut The IDF says that it killed the commander of the Imam Hossein Division, an Iranian militia which operates alongside Hezbollah, in the same strike that killed the commander of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400 in Beirut. The military names the commander as Daw Alfakher Hinawi. It says the Imam Hossein Division has carried out numerous rocket and drone attacks on Israel amid the war, from Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. The division was behind a drone that struck a school in Eilat in November 2023, causing damage. IDF says commander of Hezbollah’s weapons’ smuggling Unit 4400 killed in Beirut airstrike The IDF says it killed the commander of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, which is tasked with delivering weapons from Iran and its proxies to Lebanon. Muhammad Ja’far Kasir, who headed Unit 4400, was killed in a strike carried out by fighter jets in Beirut, according to the military. The IDF says Kasir was “one of the senior leaders of the Hezbollah terror organization and the most dominant [person] in the Iran-Hezbollah-Syria terror axis, and is considered close to the Iranian regime.” He was involved in hundreds of “strategic” weapons smuggling operations from Iran to Hezbollah, and was among those who advanced the terror group’s precision missile project. Kasir served as head of Unit 4400 for some 15 years, the IDF says. US official says Iran informed ‘international parties’ of the size and timing of attack Iran informed “international parties” of the size and timing of its anticipated attack on Israel, a US Defense Department official tells Sky News Arabia. The US expressed concern earlier over Iran’s ballistic missiles, which can reach Israel in less than 15 minutes. A US-based Axios reporter writes on X that Iran is expected to attack Israel with ballistic missiles that can reach targets within 12 minutes, and not with drones or cruise missiles that take longer. IDF says it is calling up four reservist brigades to northern front The IDF says that following an assessment it is calling up four reservist brigades as well as other forces to take part in ongoing operations on the northern front. An Israeli brigade is generally made up of several thousand soldiers. The IDF says calling up the additional reservists “will allow the continuation of the fight against the Hezbollah terror organization.” Sources claim Israel struck 3 anti-aircraft radar stations in southern Syria Syrian military sources claim to Reuters that Israel has struck at least three anti-aircraft radar stations in southern Syria, including one stationed in a military airfield. The drone strikes reportedly hit two radar stations west of the city of Sweida, including one stationed in an airbase in the area. Another purportedly hit a radar station in the adjoining Daraa province. They are part of the Syrian army’s air defenses in the southern region, one of the sources adds. There was no immediate comment from the IDF, which rarely comments on strikes carried out in Syria. IDF urges evacuation of over 20 Lebanese towns: ‘Anyone who is near Hezbollah… is putting their life in danger’ The Israeli military urges residents of more than 20 towns in southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately, in a statement from IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee on X. “The IDF does not want to harm you, and for your own safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately. Anyone who is near Hezbollah members, installations and combat equipment is putting their life in danger,” the IDF adds. The statement comes after Israel this morning announced the commencement of limited ground operations against the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon. |

#4 While no one rational can quibble with Israel's targeting strategy in terms of effectiveness, I have to wonder why they'd go after the oil rather than the nukes? |
