[Regnum] At least four people have died in a shipwreck in the southwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), the France Presse (AFP) agency reported on September 16, citing local authorities.
Another 50 are listed as missing. The tragedy occurred on the Kwango River. According to the vice-governor of the Kwango province, Remi Saki, who gave details of the incident, the vessel crashed into a bridge support and sank.
There were about 150 people on board. A search and rescue operation is underway.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, in mid-June a ship with 271 passengers on board sank on the Kwa River in the DR Congo. It ran aground in the dark. Immediately after the incident, rescuers began searching for at least 80 people who were listed as missing.
On August 19, the superyacht Bayesian sank off the coast of Palermo in southern Italy. It was caught in a storm. There were 12 passengers and 10 crew members on board. The yacht was found at a depth of 49 meters. At least five people died.
