#24  [Wayback machine] When I was last there (2018) NoMo the island was fed by 3 or 4, 4 lane bridges. The primary road serving the island residents was generally a quiet 2 lane route between block walls or mangrove swamps. High traffic areas serving the bridges broadened to 4 lanes for turn lane or commercial access. When P.Trump was in residence, common traffic was rerouted away from him by city police, or screened by sheriff's deputies, with dogs. They also did the preliminary vehicle searches and alerted the mobile SS unit for background checks when a dog triggered or a driver was suspicious. SS was in place 'near' the golf course gates which were manned by private security.

Now, there may not be roving patrols or perimeter monitoring other than private security in golf carts, inside the fence. Abandoned vehicles on the roadside may get a tow sticker unless they are in a suggested parking area for shore fishers (or photogs). Likely no plates are checked.

#23  Are you sure about that Grom?

It wasn't 150, but (approx) 400.

#22  Are you sure about that Grom? In any event, a more puzzling aspect of this now seems to be what the map above shows: noting the vehicle location, coupled with the 12 hour onsite of the phone at the sniper location, coupled with the stolen license plates on the perps truck which was likely parked for the 12 hour period, all of which suggests that NO ONE from the USSS detail/local LE drove the perimeter of the golf course fence line for even a cursory screening once Trump made the decision to play golf. Even a simple drive-by of the fence line street should have included license plate checks on parked vehicles immediately proximate to the fence-line. The stolen tags would then have registered, dismounted examination of the vehicle and a VIN run that would reveal the sniper's actual ID, and the ground search would reveal sniper location hours before Trump was even on the course. If my suppositions are accurate this is unbelievable incompetence for the USSS detail?

#20  Curious that the suspect has no visible wounds on face, head, or upper body given that the USSS agents ahead of Trump fired four rounds at a rifle barrel sticking out of a chain link fence. The fence at any angle of shooter to target would seem to have had a significant likelihood of some shrapnel efect even if the agents missed, adding more discredit to the mythic reputation of USSS shooting skills?

Under 50 yds at the 6th hole, methinks.

#17  It sounds like the shot was from 150 yards.

#16  It would be hard to hit a target at 300 yards with an SKS even with a scope. The SKS rifle is prone to “slamfires” – or accidental discharges of the rifle without pulling trigger.
The issue of slamfires is especially problematic for collectors which is why special care is an important reminder. I have observed this myself. Depending on where it was manufactured the accuracy is debatable. he SKS rifle is effective at a firing range of 440 yards. I have on, a Chinese made. Maybe it's because it's Chinese but it's not very accurate beyond 200 yards. I would like to know what version this rifle is.

How long can he be expected to be with us ?

Until he's been cremated. That may have already happened. The FBI will let us know in 50-100 years.

#13  ^ What do you think Trump is going to do? (To Azov). They are beholden to the Democrat Party.

#12  I could be wrong, but doubt the Ukies are interested in foreign assassinations. They've got enough shi* to shovel as it is. Discovery could be catastrophic for future militay aid. I can just see Kamala pulling an Afghan shutdown and diverting Ukie defense dollars to reparations or migrant SNAP cards.

… connection to Azov and has never had any connection to Azov. The peaceful demonstration he attended was open and anyone could join it. He was caught on the video filmed by the protesters by accident.

We believe that the spread of the narrative about the possible connection between Azov and Ryan Wesley Routh is playing along with Russian propaganda and discredits the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine and the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine in general.

I'm now curious about possible social network connections (or any other connectons) between Florida gunman and Pennsylvania gunman. Just a rock that needs flipping over.

Oh, one other thing.

Shooter's health, meds, etc? How long can he be expected to be with us ?

#4  From the V Kontakte post of Russian military correspondent Aleksandr Kots:

But I would not be surprised if during the investigation they find Routh correspondence with some Sberbank security officer of the day before yesterday and an Islamic preacher of yesterday. Who led the American to the idea that killing Trump is the best help for Ukraine.

#3  From Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin's Live Journal account from a commenter:

However, according to a firearms expert, the photos released at a press conference on Sunday show an SKS-type rifle with a polymer stock, equipped with an AK-style magazine for 7.62 mm rounds.

“The weapon in question was misidentified as an AK-type rifle, likely due to the distinctively curved magazine and visually similar gas system,” N.R. Jensen-Jones, director of the consultancy Armament Research Services, told The Post.

Minor modifications can be made to the SKS rifle to permit the use of AK Magazines. Shooter's weapon appears to have an off-set scope and mount which permits use of 10 round, top loading stripper clips.

Graphic (now deleted) was harvested from a Washington Post story https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/09/15/trump-golf-course-gunman-weapon/

Full sized WAPO photo at above link shows a rather long scope (possibly Russian) with strange white tape or white pad at eye relief end. Does NOT appear to be a professional scope mounting job.

#2  Russians are saying the "AK" was in fact an SKS, which shoots the same round as the AK. SKSs are s'posed to be cheaper than a semi automatic AK. Some are even used as hunting rifles.
