[Regnum] US authorities have charged six Russians with cyberattacks against Ukraine and NATO countries. The US Department of Justice reported this on September 5.
It is alleged that five officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Ministry of Defense and a civilian assistant participated in hacker attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine.
The US Department of Justice believes that these same people could later attack government systems in NATO countries.
"The Department of Justice will use all available tools to stop this type of malicious cyber activity and bring those responsible to justice," the statement said.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said on May 4 that the US State Department's claims that the Russian Federation and Russian intelligence services are allegedly involved in cyberattacks in Europe are false propaganda, confirming Washington's refusal to engage in constructive dialogue. He noted that it was the West that had embarked on the path of militarization of the information space, regularly resorting to cyberattacks. As statistics show, the overwhelming majority of hacker attacks in the world occur from US territory, the diplomat emphasized.
