"Over the past 24 hours, US Central Command forces have successfully destroyed one Houthi unmanned surface vehicle in the Red Sea," the statement said.
It is noted that the US military considered the drone an "immediate threat" to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant ships in the region.
Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that American military personnel struck two vessels of the rebels from the Yemeni Shiite movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) in the Red Sea.
One of the ships was attacked off the coast of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, the Royal Navy's Maritime Trade Coordination Centre reported on August 12. According to official information, the incident occurred 63 nautical miles, or about 116.6 km, southwest of Hodeidah.
Another attack on a British vessel took place on August 3. The attack took place 170 nautical miles southwest of Aden in Yemen.
As the conflict in the Middle East escalated, the Houthis warned that they would not allow ships linked to Israel to pass through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave was stopped. Since November 2023, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian vessels. In response to the Houthis' actions, the United States and its allies began retaliatory strikes against Yemeni rebel positions in January 2024.
