[Regnum] The Russian Su-35S fighter jet set a world record by shooting down a MiG-29 belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at a distance of 213 km. This was reported by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.
The publication states that the first hints of a sensation were discovered on the evening of July 28. On that day, Russian fighters announced that the launch of the R-37M long-range missile was successful, while at that moment Ukrainian air traffic controllers lost the MiG-29 fighter's radar signature.
"Confirmed. The pilot's application, plus objective control, plus confirmation from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The MiG-29 was shot down at a range of 213 km. No one in the world can repeat this," the publication notes, citing a publication in the Voevoda Broadcasts Telegram channel.
Journalists noted that the R-37M is currently the longest-range air-to-air missile in the world. Its stated range is 300 kilometers. The missile is used by Russian MiG-31, Su-30SM, and Su-35S fighters.
As reported by Regnum news agency, on July 19, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, stated that the Russian Armed Forces (RF) had shot down three MiG-29 fighters belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in one week.
On July 4, with the help of the Iskander operational-tactical missile system, Russian Armed Forces fighters were able to destroy a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter with one strike.
Earlier, the air defense forces of the Russian Armed Forces were able to deprive the Ukrainian Armed Forces of two MiG-29 fighters in one day.
