[Regnum] Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered adjustments to strategic planning documents needed for the development of the Navy and for the effective protection of the country's national interests, Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev told reporters on July 24.
“Putin has ordered adjustments to strategic planning documents that will provide for the balanced development of the navy,” the presidential aide said.
Patrushev added that the US and NATO countries are increasing their naval presence in the World Ocean, including in waters adjacent to Russia. Given the growing threats, Russia is obliged to strengthen the Navy. He also stressed that it is necessary to ensure the fleet's constant readiness to deter and prevent conflicts.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on June 27, at a meeting on shipbuilding, Putin asked the Defense Ministry to report to him on how the department sees the long-term concept for the development of the Navy. The head of state specified that this concerns the principles that should form the basis of immediate and long-term plans.
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that in 2024 the Navy will be replenished with 12 surface ships and 4 submarines. Thus, over the past 10 years, the Russian fleet has received 40 surface ships and 24 submarines. In 2023, the fleet was replenished with 32 ships.
