[Regnum] A Russian MiG-31 fighter jet from the air defense duty forces drove away a Norwegian Air Force P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft from the Russian border. This was reported on July 10 by the Ministry of Defense.
It is specified that earlier on July 10, Russian airspace control systems detected an air target approaching the Russian state border over the Barents Sea, which was identified as a P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force.
To prevent violation of the state border, a MiG-31 fighter from the air defense duty forces was raised into the air.
“As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign aircraft made a turn away from the state border of the Russian Federation,” the department reported.
After this, the MiG-31 safely returned to its base airfield, without violating the Russian state border.
The Defense Ministry emphasized that the Russian fighter's flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters and in compliance with safety measures.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on June 30, a pilot of a Su-27P military aircraft intercepted a Danish Air Force F-16 over the Baltic Sea in the Kaliningrad region. The Russian aircraft flew close to the intruder and forced it to change course by effectively "rocking" its wings and demonstrating its weapons.
On June 28, the Russian Defense Ministry reported an increase in the intensity of flights of American strategic drones over the Black Sea. The department clarified that this indicates greater involvement of the United States and NATO countries in the Ukrainian conflict, and also creates increased risks of a direct clash between the alliance and Russia.
