(D) and state legislators struck a deal this weekend to close a $47 billion budget deficit — and agreed to spend $12 million to implement proposals to provide reparations for slavery.
Obviously they're rolling in money. I'm not sure slavery's been legal in California since Spanish control.
  • Maybe the descendants of Indios are gonna get the money? You know, the ones who had to provide corvee labor for the monasteries and missions?

  • California entered the union as a free state. Slaves imported from the east with their owners had the habit of simply walking away, since there weren't any recapture mechanisms and no laws that would make them stay.

  • Are there gonna be reparations for Chinese and Japanese yellow perils?
The Sacramento Bee reported:

The budget agreement California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders announced Saturday sets aside $12 million to help the state implement a series of reparations-related bills lawmakers hope will pass this year.
So $12 M to the people 'preparing' the bills for a vote.
For [Democratic Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, the chair of the Legislative Black Caucus], it was exactly what Black lawmakers asked for, she said. But it also comes in a year when the state was facing an almost $47 billion shortfall.

The money would help support proposals endorsed by the caucus, including having the state apologize for inflicting harm on Black Californians and allowing slavery to occur in the state.

#5  This isn't to send money to any Blacks, it is to give $200k a year do-nothing jobs to 50 donor's kids for the 'study period' and to write 'proposals'... Graft, pure and simple.

#2  Blatant attempt to buy the black vote with reparations. Not only no, but hell no. It's an insult to both blacks and whites. Take it to the courts. More reason to leave California.
