[Regnum] Due to frosts that were observed in 21 regions of the country, more than 1% of the harvest in Russia was lost, President Vladimir Putin said on June 4 at a meeting with the government.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state asked the new head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, how the situation was in the agricultural sector.
“There are several current issues, and one of them is the progress of the sowing campaign. In 21 regions of Russia, unfortunately, there were frosts and somewhere a little more than 1% of the crop died - approximately 1.2%,” the president said.
The President held a meeting with the government via video link. He arrived in St. Petersburg, where he will take part in the international economic forum.
The main topic of the meeting between the president and the government is the development of automobile tourism in Russia. In addition, the head of state and ministers will discuss a number of issues in the sphere of agriculture and education.
As Regnum reported, on May 16, at a meeting of the operational headquarters, Lut said that frosts led to the death of crops on an area of about 830 thousand hectares. On a general scale, this is about 1% of the entire area.On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev called on the regions to quickly organize the replanting of frost-damaged crops. On May 27, Lut announced that the Ministry of Agriculture plans to declare a federal emergency due to crop damage amid the May frosts.
The weather in a number of regions of Russia in the first ten days of May was typical for early April. Frosts down to 0...-3 °C hit on the night of May 4-5. In the center of the European part of Russia, in the Volga region, in the Urals, and in the Primorsky Federal District, the air temperature was 4-6 degrees below normal values.
