American Airlines sued for discrimination after eight black men removed from flight |
2024-05-30 |
![]() They reportedly were told after disembarking that they were removed from the flight "because of a complaint about body odor," but they said no one accused them of that on the plane. The men, who didn’t know one another, were later let back on the Phoenix-to-New York flight. "We take all claims of discrimination very seriously and want our customers to have a positive experience when they choose to fly with us," American said in a statement to the New York Times. "Our teams are currently investigating the matter, as the claims do not reflect our core values or our purpose of caring for people." A cellphone recording obtained by the outlet revealed an American employee agreeing with a man who had described the removal as discriminatory, saying they agreed. The men are requesting compensation for "fear, humiliation, embarrassment, mental pain, suffering and inconvenience" they endured, as well as punitive damages. An attorney working with Public Citizen, Lauren Bateman, said the men were removed because they were black men. |

#12 Shoot, in clown world it could be they were supposed to be on the migrant express instead of the regular people noticing flight, removed and put on migrant express, and lawsuit is cover for it. Don't know. I'm just putting out there, that in today's American Culture, poor manners and hygiene in themselves are not unusual, so I wonder if something more extraordinary is going on here. |

#10 Maybe. Last I read a story like this, an ex-football player had spent the last 8 hours in a titty bar right up to the minute he had to make the flight, smelling of booze and smoke and 8 hours of that kind of partying. Another 'body odor' complaint can be found posted at restaurants in legal weed states that customers who smell like the stinky stinky will be asked to leave. In these modern times, I'm open to any of the thread's possibilities, right? Maybe the dedicated Newsomer flight was overbooked and this is spillover, and their little Red Cross How-To explains how to call racism to block investigation. |

#9 Guess those Karens have absolutely no idea how things smelled 100+ years ago before people got into a habit of bathing and washing regularly. |

#8 Couldn't be worse than the smell encountered with a room full of test engineers taking the 6 hour certification exam. Every 3 years. Still haunts me. |

#4 When I managed a medical office, some people came through with such bad BO we lost use of the exam room they were in for part of a day. And no particular race had any monopoly on that. |
