According to her, this document is another irresponsible attempt by Westerners to rewrite history and consolidate an interpretation of the circumstances related to the ethnic conflict in the territory of the former Yugoslavia that meets their geopolitical interests.
The diplomat emphasized that the resolution has a clearly politicized and anti-Serbian character, which clearly shows the intention to place full responsibility for the conflict on the Serbian people. Thus, Zakharova believes, they want to punish the Serbs for free-thinking, independence and unwillingness to “bend in” to NATO orders.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the initiators of the adoption of this document by the UN General Assembly state that its goal is to promote interethnic reconciliation and unity of the three state-forming peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) - Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats.
She expressed confidence that the document adopted by the UN General Assembly will only worsen existing differences and increase the potential for conflict in the Balkans.
As Regnum reported, the UN General Assembly on May 23 approved a draft resolution on the “genocide in Srebrenica” submitted by Germany and Rwanda. Representatives of 84 countries voted in support of it, and 19 countries voted against it, including Russia, China, Belarus, Hungary and Cuba. Representatives of 68 countries abstained from voting.
The adoption of a resolution in the UN General Assembly on the “genocide” in Srebrenica will likely lead to the promotion of other similar resolutions, Russia warned the co-authors of the document about this, said the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia. He added that Russia opposes the proposed resolution on the events in Srebrenica.
In addition, the document violates the Dayton Agreement, and possible adoption could lead to destabilization of the entire Balkan region, Nebenzya added. The head of the Russian diplomatic mission emphasized that the UN General Assembly never condemned the genocide committed by Nazi Germany on the territory of the Soviet Union and in Europe in general, but after creating a precedent with the resolution on Srebrenica, the situation may change.
As noted by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, the draft resolution proposed by Germany and Rwanda is being promoted with the goal of “ breaking the Serbs ” and forcing Belgrade, aimed at joining the European Union, to recognize the independence of self-proclaimed Kosovo and join sanctions against Russia.
