Experts noted that this is a new scheme for Russia. Fraudsters built it on the vulnerabilities of Looker Studio, a tool designed to summarize data into convenient reports. In the fall of 2023, researchers from Checkpoint identified the problem.
Potential victims receive emails informing them of payments or compensation. The link in the email leads to a Google presentation with a single slide that redirects the user to a fraudulent resource.

Google has not yet taken action to neutralize this scheme, and users need to remain vigilant in order not to fall for scammers. The very promise of payment should alert them, for example the slide "to receive 28 thousand rubles." Then the scammers offer to choose a bank that will supposedly transfer the money, but the domains on the proposed sites do not match the originals, the expert explained.
As reported by IA Regnum, previously an investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel of Justice Sofya Chulkova warned that telephone scammers have intensified attempts to deceive Russians under the guise of "State Services", although they also continue to call on behalf of banks and mobile operators. She noted that genuine mailings from the State Services portal are always notifications and do not require switching to any Internet resource.
