Swarm of ‘wannabe thugs' caught on camera trashing police cruiser with Virginia cop trapped inside in out-of-control ‘street takeover'
2024-04-08
[NYPOST] A swarm of "masked tough guy wannabe thugs" trapped a Virginia cop inside her patrol car as they jumped on the hood and tore it apart — before one driver mowed down another cop who was coming to her aid.

Shocking bodycam video from the out-of-control "street takeover" showed hundreds of people retaliating against the officers for breaking up their 3 a.m. Sunday car meet-up, according to Fairfax County police.

"I’ve got a huge crowd. They’re hitting the car," the distressed officer can be heard saying as she radios for backup.

One person climbed on top of the patrol car, while dozens of others banged against the windows and tried to open the car doors.

Another person was seen attempting to rip the back license plate off.

One man was also seen brandishing a rifle while hanging outside the window of a car that was zipping recklessly around what Police Chief Kevin Davis called "utter chaos and disorder."

The masked individuals even filmed themselves carrying out the dastardly attack.

Dozens of officers responded to their colleague’s mayday call — only to find themselves at the center of the group’s attacks.

One driver slammed into a cop while he was walking toward the surrounded officer, leaving him with what he called a "busted wrist."

Another officer tried to chase down the culprit but ultimately gave up the dangerous pursuit.

"I believe we narrowly escaped a line-of-duty death scenario of our own. Because one of our officers was surrounded by a bunch of masked, tough-guy-wannabe-thugs who surrounded her car, and acted in a criminal manner, in a way that I’ll tell you is never going to happen again in Fairfax County," Davis said Wednesday.

The group of "cowards" caught the female officer’s attention after she spotted them driving recklessly in the parking lot.

They were speeding and doing doughnuts, according to police.

"I believe that they fully intended to drag her out of that car," Davis said.

"Thankfully, they didn’t get into the car, and we’re very grateful for that."

Four people have been identified thanks to the incriminating video.

Ronal Urrea-Hernandez, 18, was allegedly behind the wheel when he crashed into the officer before fleeing the scene. Police have obtained warrants for felony hit-and-run among other charges.

Carlos A. Matinez Jr., 18, was charged with reckless driving after police said he was also involved in a crash with a patrol car.

Dylan Heckard, 20, was also hit with a slew of charges, including abduction, assault on a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice.

Police say he was identified because he posted a selfie with a middle finger on social media and police found it.

Detectives have also identified a 17-year-old Arlington man who will be charged with Disorderly Conduct and Abduction for jumping on the police cruiser and preventing her from leaving.

The Fairfax County police department have since created a Civil Disturbance team to identify where these street takeovers are planned and respond to the incidents before they become dangerous.

They will use a helicopter to track down people who try to speed away.

#2  We have the ability to track the comms used to organize these takeovers. Are we not doing it? Are we doing so and simply observing ability of locals to resist? Are we actively directing these actions? So many questions.

Well, open fire on the SOB's. They'll back off.
