[Regnum] What Western countries did to Yugoslavia in 1999 is unacceptable, since they actually started a war in the center of Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated thisin the documentary film “Belgrade” on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“What the West did is completely unacceptable. They started the war directly, in fact, in the center of Europe,” the head of state said.
The TV channel only showed the announcement of a film dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the events in Yugoslavia. It will be shown in full on March 24.
As Regnum reported, the head of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk said on November 28, 2023 that the West hates Russia and Putin personally, who broke his strategy of dismembering the country to seize its natural resources. According to the expert, Western countries have already completely divided Russia and its resources, as they did with Yugoslavia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in May 2023 that the West is cynically trying to blame Russia for violating international law, which it trampled on in Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya. The Foreign Minister recalled that the West launched aggressive wars against these countries.
NATO launched an operation against Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999, under the pretext of preventing the supposedly possible “genocide” of the Albanian population in Kosovo. During this time, 3,000 cruise missiles were fired across the country and about 80,000 tons of bombs were dropped, including cluster bombs and depleted uranium bombs.
According to the Serbian side, between 3,500 and 4,000 people died as a result, two thirds of whom were civilians. After the bombing of Serbia with depleted uranium ammunition, about 30 thousand people fell ill with cancer in the country, of whom 10,000 to 18,000 died.
