Army General Pressured Assessment Panel to Help Career of 'Ineffective' Officer |
2024-03-21 |
A Military.com investigation found that Gen. Charles Hamilton, who oversees Army Materiel Command, spent about a month last year trying to pull strings behind the scenes for a female lieutenant colonel to breeze through the service's Battalion Commander Assessment Program, or BCAP. This included directly lobbying at least three generals on the assessment panel and successfully pushing officials to let the lieutenant colonel get a second board two days after she failed the first. Forget the "unfit" officer, I'd like to know how an enlisted parachute rigger becomes a four star ? The interference became so egregious that the director of the Army Command Assessment Program, Col. Robert O'Brien, penned a memo chronicling Hamilton's conduct on Nov. 1, immediately after the lieutenant colonel was deemed unfit twice in two assessment panels within 48 hours. |

#6 They act like this is something new and different. Where do you think they get the people that work at the five sided funny farm? Merit promotions? |

#5 I credit a Stacey Abrams look alike for my second Sand Box "combat tour." She was scheduled to deploy but did not/would not, due to alleged "medical and family issues." She was approaching 18 year 'lock in' for retirement. I was her replacement. It can work in your favor. |

#4 ...We had a case in USAF in the mid 90s - had a 3 star (who I had briefly - and thank God, mercifully so - worked for) who was the USAF liaison to Congress...and was quietly lobbying for/against certain officers on the GO list. When he got caught, he was pointed towards the door with all possible haste. Wasn't his first rodeo either; just before Desert Storm kicked off he was about to be sent home from an Important Post in USAFE for - in the words of a long departed friend - 'canoodling with the hired help'. Trouble was that before that could happen, Saddam got stupid...and this guy was the only dude on the USAFE staff who knew where everything was. Saved by events, he was, and in the general afterglow everything was kinda forgotten - but the most senior leadership still wanted to keep an eye on him so they brought him to DC as the Congressional liaison. Didn't work. And - I kid you not, dear Friends - this guy has since been involved in at least two eight-figure scams that I know of. At this point, if you run across an elderly retired fighter pilot trying to sell you a used car or beachfront property in Arizona, run. Mike |

#3 And the "unfit" officer; a Swedish triathlon runner, math major, and graduate of VMI right ? |

#1 I would reckon Col. Robert O'Brien will be dropping his retirement paperwork very soon. |
