One deeply ahistorical aspect of most films and shows set during the Middle Ages is their extreme sanitization of combat which reduces it to child's play and thus fails to approximate anywhere near reality. #3 This is totally different from the understanding that I gained from the three Renaissance Festivals that my wife dragged me to in the 90s so I am skeptical. Maybe Kent just ticked off some dudes at the pub.

#1 It wasn't just the Middle Ages. Nearly all films of WW2 were sanitized. It wasn't till Saving Private Ryan that the brutality of modern combat was clearly displayed, up front and in your face.
