[ZH] Russian forces claim they have successfully destroyed an American-supplied M1 Abrams main battle tank for the first time, coming two full years into the Ukraine war, outside the captured city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. The US-made advanced tank was reportedly taken out by a kamikaze drone or loitering munition launched by Russia's 15th Motorized Rifle Brigade. Russian state media accounts made the announcement Monday and published video purporting to show the destruction of the M1 Abrams main battle tank. |

#3 One hopes a BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) can be made of the circumstances and specific tech analysis. Overhead Standoff screening panels might be a consideration give proliferation of top-attack, loitering options, but conducting ops in a permanent buttoned-up environment is a real crew-duration problem. |

#2 Considering how long they have been used it is good that it took this long to knock one out. And it wasn't destroyed, just disabled. Track is thrown and the blowout panels are missing to the inside should still be fairly intact. |

#1 Armor can only be successful under the umbrella of air control. It was true in WWII and it's still true today. |
