Where Are All the Headlines When 'Free Palestine' Is On a Shooter's Assault Weapon?
2024-02-13
Follow-up to this story from yesterday, when a transgender female named Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, originally a man from El Salvador with a long rap sheet named Jeffrey Escalate Moreno showed up at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church near Houston with an AR-15 and a five year old boy. She was shot dead before she could commit her massacre, thank goodness.
BLUF:
[Hot Air] Said shooter was carrying the penultimate much-demonized "weapon of war/assault weapon" (used only by white supremacists, we have been assured) into a church with the intent to carry out a mass shooting (also only perpetrated by white supremacists)...and that's not in the lede ANYWHERE?!

It's quite the oddest thing. I'm not seeing any major media reacting like I imagine they would the second, say, MAGA MAGA MAGA had been on the side of an AR-15 merely being carried on a sidewalk, less mind taken into a house of worship and lit off intending to kill people.

In fact, the media is going out of their way to avoid mentioning what the weapon was at all.

ABC 13 Eyewitness News calls the AR-15 a "gun" or a "long rifle," although they mention the pro-Hamas message straight up front.
Behold the media's incorrect narrative.

The Times of Israel adds:
The woman who opened fire over the weekend at Joel Osteen’s megachurch in Houston had a history of mental illness and left a trail of "antisemitic writings," law enforcement officials said on Monday, as their search for a motive entered a second day.

Authorities identified the woman as 36-year-old Genesse Moreno, saying she had opened fire inside Lakewood Church on Sunday with her 7-year-old son in tow.

As a motive, they said they were looking at a range of possibilities: a family dispute, a history of mental illness, and potentially an opinion about the war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, pointing out that the gun she used in the shooting had a sticker that read "Paleostine." Authorities also said they found "antisemitic writings" belonging to the suspect.

Two off-duty law enforcement officers who were working security at the church exchanged fire with and killed Moreno shortly before 2 p.m. local time in the hallway of the church as worshipers were arriving for a Spanish-language service.

The 7-year-old boy, whom officials said was Moreno’s son, was shot in the head and remained at death's door on Monday.

"We do have some antisemitic writings that we have uncovered in this process," Christopher Hassig, commander of the Houston Police Department homicide division, told news hounds in an update on the investigation. He did not say where the writings were found.

"We do believe that there was a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband’s family and some of those individuals are Jewish, so we believe that that might possibly be where all of this stems from," Hassig said, emphasizing that the investigation is in its early stages.

Moreno, who Hassig said had gone by several aliases, including a masculine name, had been put under an emergency detention order by Houston police in 2016, and had a documented mental health history, according to family members.

The majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by men, making the apparent Houston attempt a rarity. The US Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center, which studies all forms of targeted violence including mass casualty attacks, found in a 2023 report that 96% of mass attackers from 2016-2020 were male.

Officials said they were still investigating how Moreno obtained her guns, one of which she appeared to have bought in December. She brought two long rifles into the church — an AR-15, with which she fired multiple rounds, and a 22-caliber rifle that she had in reserve.

She forced her way past a security guard to enter the church around 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, wearing a backpack and a trench coat. She immediately started firing her AR-15, which had a sticker on the bumpstock that said "Paleostine," officials said on Monday.

Moreno said at the scene that she had a bomb and was seen spraying some kind of substance, officials said, but law enforcement found no explosives after searching her backpack and vehicle and no risk of toxic substance exposure.

Law enforcement credited the officers who intervened for thwarting what could have been a catastrophic tragedy.

#3  Schizophrenic and nasty, per MSN. I’m still curious about how two men — one presenting as female — created a child.

Prior to her attack, Moreno had been arrested at least six times since 2005, her charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon, assault of a public servant, assault causing bodily injury, forgery, theft and marijuana possession, according to records obtained by KXAN. Her last arrest was in 2022, after police officers in Katy reportedly found two weapons in her car during a traffic stop, ABC 13 reported. Despite her criminal past, police said she legally purchased the AR-15 she used in the attack in December.

In divorce records obtained by ABC 13, Moreno's husband Enrique Carranza, who alleges Moreno was abusive, referred to her as Jeffrey. Investigators confirmed Moreno, who has always identified as a woman, went by both male and female aliases in the past, including the name Jeffrey Escalante. "Jeffrey is a diagnosed schizophrenic, so daily it was a new battle or fight in her realm," the documents read. The documents show Moreno also accused Enrique, a registered sex offender, of abuse.

However, Walli took to Facebook on Monday to deny these claims. "Although my former daughter-in-law raged against Israel and Jews in a pro-Palestine rant yesterday, this has nothing to do with Judaism or Islam. Nothing!" she wrote. "But this is what happens when reckless and irresponsible reporting lets people with severe mental illness have an excuse for violence."

Investigators also emphasized Moreno's struggles with mental health, noting that in 2016 she was placed under an emergency detention order, which is used to detain a person with a mental illness who poses a risk of serious harm to themselves or others. "We need to continue to be aware of mental health issues in our community," said Houston Mayor John Whitmire during the presser. "There are indications that mental health played a role in an early investigation."

Several of Moreno's neighbors in Conroe told NBC News they were afraid to leave their homes after she harassed them and threatened them over the years, claiming officials failed to respond to their reports about Moreno. "I've been through hell," Jill, who did not want to give her last name for fear of retaliation, told the outlet. "I have reported this, reported this, reported this, and it has gone on deaf ears. Nobody should have died. Nobody should have been hurt. This should have been handled years ago."

Walli blamed "the system" for allowing someone with "psychiatric problems who threatens other people" to own a gun. "No one may ever blame a police officer who carries out his or her rightful duty to save lives even if they are found responsible for shooting my grandson," she wrote. "The fault lies in Child Protective Services of Montgomery County and Harris County which refused to remove custody from a woman with known mental illness who was not being treated and with the State of Texas for not having strong red flag laws that would have prevented from owning or possessing a gun."

#1  Clearly S/he borrowed the weapon.
Wonder if the ballistics on the kid are done.
